I only clicked to find out what "pastel blonde" was.
Light blonde. That's it. She went blonde.

I’m the one who is in the video.
From reading comments I wonder if people have noticed that I bleached roots only once while the rest parts were bleached twice? I am fully aware that in theory you should not start at roots for bleaching. However, I started at roots intentionally for her particular case because 1) this requires triple process ( two bleaches + one color) but want to minimize damage to her scalp, 2) it is tricky to find the exact “line” where body temperature affects the bleach, as it always depends on each person’s hair texture, thickness and body temperature. So I applied bleach first to roots to light it up enough by maximizing body temperature effects, and avoided the second bleach(for the roots). This process actually gives another advantage because after the first bleach, the “line” appears as everyone points out as “uneven”. So if you do the second bleach from the line where the color is darker, you will get the whole hair bleached evenly in the end.
I know that this isn’t a conventional way I have learned at school but my 17 years of experience serving diverse hair-types in Tokyo, Vancouver and NY has taught me this tip. This way works for her hair because her whole hair was a virgin. Each person’s hair and its condition is different so I service in a way that would work the best for each hair - so there’s no golden rules for me.

I’m a stylists, and i can tell you that there’s many things wrong with this process, including the end results. Yes it’s her choice, but it’s a professional’s job to also suggest what’s better for somebody that still fits their taste. It’s not as flattering on her as another color would be. They started at the roots too- big yikes 🙂 and in the end shots you can tell parts of her ends are still dark and a darker/warmer tone than her roots. The haircut also seems slightly choppy but it could be her texture that moves it to look like that. I just would’ve suggested a different route with this

    • @matchamei3079

According to the stylist starting at the roots was intentional - he only bleached the roots once to lighten them to the highest capacity without damaging her scalp as much. It also helps show the boundary where her scalp’s heat will stop affecting the processing of the bleach so subsequent applications were only beneath. And you underestimate the power of the client’s choice - this girl is obviously VERY adamant that she wants this colour. She talks about how it’ll change her life but I still agree this was NOT it for her.

Well, she did say that right after she said she doesn't like feeling attached to her hair, so I think she meant the kind of rules and "services" people can feel they owe their hair. Like following curly girl method. That doesn't allow you to use certain products, heat tools, and I bet some girls wouldn't bleach their hair either. It's like paying reverence to dead cells on your head and never being "bad" with it. Like damaged hair would be the worst thing in your life.
Dying her hair, even if it's a high maintance color right now, might let her feel better about changing the color up, or straightening out one day and using a curling iron the next.
Damaged hair be damned, she's been good to her hair for 4 years and is probably bored to tears with her healthy hair.

A color that is beyond 2 - 3 shades of lightness away from one's natural hair color is almost always going to look strangely artificial because it won't match your face's pigmentation. It might be wise to keep this in mind when deciding on a new hair color.
Perhaps you could try a lighter shade of brown if you want for a more natural looking result?

They did an amazing job because that's quite hard to do on dark hair that has a lot of heavy pigmentation. Some hair looks dark but it actually has blonde undertones and it lifts pretty easily. But when hair has a lot of heavy pigment and it goes through all the red and gold stages it's much more difficult to lift without significant damage. I'm at the point where I think anyone can wear any hair color if it's done well. We probably all have one look that's our absolute best, but all the rest can be fun to wear for a while.

It is true that everyone learned to color from the middle part first and go toward roots later because body temperature affects roots so it gets lighter faster than other section. But for this double bleach process, we call this triple process actually (bleach twice and color once) require lot of damage. And stylist doesnt like to actually do bleach very roots part twice, which most stylists do and this will make skins irritating so instead of doing roots twice, stylists went root first to light up the roots and did the rest of the hair dye twice. I just want to make comments here so people know what stylist’s intention was and not misunderstanding anything.

      Hi Chantel Veneman,
I’m the one who is in the video. From reading comments I wonder if people have noticed that I bleached roots only once while the rest parts were bleached twice? I am fully aware that in theory you should start at roots for bleaching.

      L. Purdy It is true that everyone learned to color from the middle part first and go toward roots later because body temperature affects roots so it gets lighter faster than other section. But for this double bleach process, sometime, call this triple process actually (bleach twice and color once) requires lot of damage. And stylist doesnt like to actually do bleach very roots part twice, which most stylists do and this will make skins irritating so instead of doing roots twice, stylists went root first to light up the roots and did the rest of the hair dye twice. I just wanted to make comments here so people know what stylist’s intention seems don’t judge and thinks that he does not know anything. That was what learned and heard from other videos too. Thanks.

@@sarahwithah I’m the one who is in the video. From reading comments I wonder if people have noticed that I bleached roots only once while the rest parts were bleached twice? I am fully aware that in theory you should start at roots for bleaching.

When you’re just transitioning from straightening your hair all the time or consistently wearing wigs and weaves, you don’t really have much control over your hair. It’s extremely damaged, you don’t know how to manage it because you likely never have since society teaches you your hair is “bad hair” not worth the time or effort, and it feels like everything you try doesn’t work out. After some time you start to understand your hair and what’s best for you and your texture and density, and you can better control the manageability and damaged aspects of your hair. She means that now that she has control over her hair, she understands how to manage it in its natural state and how to combat/eliminate things that were damaging it like heat and tension, she’s ready to take on what could be a very damaging treatment that requires a lot of maintenance and knowledge of your hair (bleach + coloring). Being obtuse about this for a joke on a youtube comment section doesn’t make you look funny, it makes people think you’re dumb lol.
