I can’t believe how few people are wandering in the streets and on and around the canals, lakes and rivers! Don’t get me wrong, I love it. We live hours away from the cities, in the “bush” where we have always lived (in Oz ... Australia). No canals in Oz but plenty of coast. We did hire a narrow boat in the UK and did the Stourport Ring. Absolutely loved seeing backdoor England. I had no idea that there was so much cruising in Ireland and I like the way you seem to be mostly in your version of “the bush”. We’re getting a bit old to handle the 60’ plus narrow boats and lock paddles and gates but your Driftwood and mostly powered locks look possible. BTW our first locks on the Stourport ring were the Tardebigge flight - Ye gods. Maybe you’d let me into Ireland ... one of my Grandparents was a Murphy! Love your VLOGS , very entertaining.. many thanks for taking us along with you. Regards, Rick and Joan. Kalaru in NSW
Hi Rick & Joan and thanks for taking the time to comment. If you have your granddad's birth cert they just might let you in!! All the locks on the River Shannon are manned and there are only six locks in nearly 360 Klm so you would have no bother. However, bring a warm jumper! you wouldn't get the warm weather you're used to. Glad you're enjoying the vlogs all the way from Oz, (please make sure to subscribe) Ye a lot of the west of Ireland is very under populated. Almost 50% of Rep of Ireland's population live in Dublin. The west is very rural and quite un-spoilt. H&M
