How Dangerous is a Cannon Blank from 2.5 yards?

- Today we're shooting a cannon blank at a watermelon from 7 feet. No cannonball, just a 400g black powder charge. Could you survive? At 10 yards you would have just hurt your ears, at 5 years you'd have some internal trauma for sure but, how would you do standing in front of a cannon blank at 2.5 yards?

How close can we get before the watermelon explodes?
Hmm... that looks pretty close. I think it will be pushed off and become peppered with powder. Is it enough to cave it in? Mmm... I will guess no. If the watermelon was hollow, then it might be a different story. Time to watch and see.
Hmm. A crack. Was it from the cannon, or from the fall? Unsure. Maybe both. I think I'll give myself a grade of 50%.
How can I get my own cannon?
If you’re handy and have a decently equipped shop you can build one! You can also buy them in parts from just a barrel and all the other parts to put together yourself, or get one fully assembled carriage included, but they are sadly quite pricy.
Our first full length video of the new year will be about how we made ours!

Ok, looking forward to it. My shop is automotive oriented. I'm looking into a machining lathe, but that's a ways off yet.
