Not surprised on the result but you can setup the M2 for full launch control using the M2 button and then configure the M1 button so that you can hit it during the braking zone and have the configuration you want for the rest of the test. (M1 button: Sports plus, D3, sports suspension etc.) For this test using the paddles with full DSC off should be fine as it’s literally one corner and you can modulate the power in second gear around the bend and into the return straight. (I have an M4 competition X-Drive and prior to that a G80 M3 RWD manual and have tested every imaginable M1/M2 button configuration) 🙂
If you are going to drag race a Corvette, first is to use M on the transmission and use paddle shifters, traction control OFF, do not put it in track mode as that is for a course like Watkins Glen not a drag strip, I needs to be in sport mode. Launch set up needs to be pre programmed or follow basic foot on break and foot on gas and when you are ready to launch pedal to the floor, which will need to be practiced it usually just hooks up and takes off, You can heat up in the tires for a burn out in the staging area like normal.
Tire pressure on the Vette seemed a bit low. 29 on the right tires and 30 / 31 on the left? (I'll assume the sun is heating up the tires on the left a bit more). That said, not sure what the actual stock target is for them, just curious.
Great race! Was trying to recall if on the old UDrag track if the M3 comp beat the C8 or not? Thought the M3 won but could be wrong. We also all know that BMW underrates there engines so it’s nice to see these races in real life and not on paper
Carwow sucks at launching their cars too. Matt Watson has never launched a C8 Corvette in under 3.3 seconds despite people getting 2.8s on the street often
Id like to imagine Putting the m2 in its softest suspension setting would help with its launch a bit. Despite the outcome, im still happy to be a g87 m2 owner
If you watched it, he overcooked it, brake later than the C8 as it see it was slightly ahead in the braking zone, so no way was it going to turn and beat the C8 as the M2 would have to wait until the car was settled before going full power. Watch the video of the second race and you'll see it.
The value in the M2 is it's available with a stick, and it is a much better daily than the Vette Excellent performance, fun to drive (read manual transmission), in a more usable package
@@evilformerlys4704 I have 3 autos and 4 manual (including the 23 M2). Great Race! The M2´s suspension may be better in soft on a bumpy road, but this would have not deleted the difference we saw on the track. The M´s launch procedure is a joke and just sucks, compared to the easy but effective Chevy´s one! Clear handling advantage for the Vette, especially when turning in Race 2 it was clear to see.
The m2 needed a driver mod. It has more power indicated by the higher trap speed and dyno videos and it pulls higher gs. Seems like it was sandbagging or just unideal driving in that last run
It's also a heavy car and it's front engine. You do realize physics factors into this, sure it has power, but utilizing that power still requires the car, suspension and weight distribution to work in concert. It's not going to beat an MR car with similar weight and power, unless the car is really poorly dialed in. C8 far from poorly dialed in, get the day it landed it was handing far more expensive cars their rear ends due to its performance and it's only the base model car. M2 isn't a base model is the top of the line 2 series. Just take the loss and stop looking for conspiracies.
The C8 is mid engine, it can put its power down in a corner sooner than a front engine car, plus if you wanna get technical, the C8 is in street alignment which hurts launch and cornering performance since the tire pressure and alignment isn't setup properly to allow a full contact patch on the tires
I’ve had Chevy and I’ve had a couple of BMW M. Would always choose the American, every day of the week. Still, can’t help noticing how the bimmer, which here in Germany including Vmax 177 mph (285 km/h) costs about $28k (€25,272) less than the Vette - at least until the Chevrolet was removed from the configurator last year -, has higher end speed at the end of each segment, and considerably higher G’s. Wonder how it would end with a longer track …
This might be a loss for the M2 but due to the ability to tune the BMW easily compared to the C8, a few bolt ons and you’d have a much closer match and still a lower cost car that is more everyday friendly
I thought the C8 would be significantly quicker. I have seen the C8s here in Tucson at 3100 ft at Tucson dragway running 11.2@124 mph. I am really surprised that it held up that well on the second pass arriving at the cones almost at the same time and pulling 1.25g. I know they come with 300TW from factory so pulling 1.25Gs is very impressive.
I expected the C8 to have a very clear advantage but oddly the M2 trapped at higher speeds and with a decent launch in the second race it was very close to the cones and then slow in the turn. I was expecting the Corvette to beat it by more to be honest.
No one is going to address the M2 winning BOTH trap speeds AND the cornering G force but still losing overall? No launch dissection? No roll race adaptation? Is this channel for auto enthusiasts or for just robotic, uncurious content generation?

The fact that is only beating an m2 by 1 second says a lot more for bmw than is does for Chevy !! M power all day everyday 💪💪💪
From a price aspect, an M4C vs a C8 Z51 would have been a more accurate comparison.
what are you on about?
If you are going to drag race a Corvette, first is to use M on the transmission and use paddle shifters, traction control OFF, do not put it in track mode as that is for a course like Watkins Glen not a drag strip, I needs to be in sport mode. Launch set up needs to be pre programmed or follow basic foot on break and foot on gas and when you are ready to launch pedal to the floor, which will need to be practiced it usually just hooks up and takes off, You can heat up in the tires for a burn out in the staging area like normal.
Love that you had to go down to the m2 for this race ; couldn’t quite use the m4 lol
Why use the automatic version of the M2?
Because it’s faster
Would love to see M2 vs. RS3 u drag
They both run ~11.8 stock. Audi has less power but the AWD is a huge advantage off the line
Tire pressure on the Vette seemed a bit low. 29 on the right tires and 30 / 31 on the left? (I'll assume the sun is heating up the tires on the left a bit more). That said, not sure what the actual stock target is for them, just curious.
30 is the recommended pressure from factory on all 4 corners.
@@raredanceclassics Thanks, meant to say I wasn't sure the stock pressure that was recommended.
Why not do the stingray vs the m3?
Can we get a race there we’re uncertain of the outcome and am excited to see?
Great race! Was trying to recall if on the old UDrag track if the M3 comp beat the C8 or not? Thought the M3 won but could be wrong. We also all know that BMW underrates there engines so it’s nice to see these races in real life and not on paper
Yeah I’d be interested to see this race as well. AWD would be a game-changer on the launch.
What about C8 vs M4 Competition?
Can you do the Cadillac ct5v black wing
Was there anything that said the M2 would have been close?
This race needs to redone as neither cars are getting their best times. Just waiting for Carwow.
That second run in the M2 was a great launch but what the heck happened at the turn back??
Something just does not look right after the turn. looks fixed to me
If you watched it, he overcooked it, brake later than the C8 as it see it was slightly ahead in the braking zone, so no way was it going to turn and beat the C8 as the M2 would have to wait until the car was settled before going full power. Watch the video of the second race and you'll see it.
want to see a C8 against a 911 carerra S.. Or even the base model Carerra..
I mean the C8 does beat the Porsche 911 Carrera S at the nurburgring and posts a faster quarter mile time so my bet is C8
The value in the M2 is it's available with a stick, and it is a much better daily than the Vette
Excellent performance, fun to drive (read manual transmission), in a more usable package
Quit it with the manual transmission lies.
@@evilformerlys4704 I have 3 autos and 4 manual (including the 23 M2). The autos are easier to drive and faster, but manual much more fun to drive because you are doing more than just step on your right foot. If you want to travel fast, get a Tesla (yes beats the vette too). If you want to enjoy driving, get a stick.
M2: I’m starving what’s your business hours?
Stingray: Gapplebees is open 24 hours
The m2 needed a driver mod. It has more power indicated by the higher trap speed and dyno videos and it pulls higher gs. Seems like it was sandbagging or just unideal driving in that last run
100%
They both drove each car. Lol! The M2 sucks, so it loses.
There's only one thing that likes to suck around here and it ain't the M2...@@Asiansxsymbol
Next week… Chiron vs Prius
Corvette 🔥🔥
The C8 is AWESOME !! American Mid Engine !!
The Corvette has nearly every advantage, so the outcome was no surprise to me.
I’m a Chevy guy but My respects for that M2 thought
Vette is mid-engine, has more power, and weighs less than the M2. No surprise here.
Bmw trapping higher speeds roll on race would be interesting 3rd gear pull..but this is a great test love it
I thought the C8 would be significantly quicker.
It's funny how the c6 and c7 corvettes were autos when the bmw used dcts and smgs. Now the bmws use autos and corvettes use dct 🤣😂
Great video, would love to see U drag an Audi RS3.
Would be interesting to see a roll race between these two..
The c8 is faster to 60 and the quarter. What was the point of the his race.
I expected the C8 to have a very clear advantage but oddly the M2 trapped at higher speeds and with a decent launch in the second race it was very close to the cones and then slow in the turn. I was expecting the Corvette to beat it by more to be honest.
Should've run it against the ev6! the Vette and ev6 would've been close
Edmunds update your leaderboard on your site.
I want to see some cs or csl models on the channel see if there is a difference
Not surprised at all. NA vs turbo and weight (dang that M is heavy).
Also, BMWs plethora of settings sounds like the Cheesecake factory menu.
I'm a tech guy, and even MY eyes rolled when he was rattling off all the parameters for launch control on the M2.
The car with the higher trap speed probably has more horsepower. Interesting it was the M2
No surprise at all.
Why do you show the spoilers at the VERY BEGINNING of the video? It makes it so there’s no reason to watch the rest of the video at all
One thing for sure, Jonathan drove the piss out of that M2.
Um... Perhaps the direct competitor for the M2, Audi RS3, would have been a better choice...?
No one is going to address the M2 winning BOTH trap speeds AND the cornering G force but still losing overall? No launch dissection? No roll race adaptation? Is this channel for auto enthusiasts or for just robotic, uncurious content generation?
No, the m2 cost about 10000.00$ more now but it has about 560 hp and around 500 lbs. Torque and all wheel drive and I guarantee things look a little different now cause the M2 just kicked the ZL1 Camaro but in the most recent drags and I absolutely LOVE the new wider lower stance of it now!!!...... that's coming from a Chevy dude who has critical thinking skills......love the new M2!
@nickmorris9383 I'm saying how they should get into the data a little bit. They are clearly recording it. I never mentioned cost
@@blablah538 Yes, your right, I just think the races they do are just advertising. What gets me is that, surely they have thought about offering more data to the consumers and yet they don't, and I wonder why, marketing? I don't get it......
Ive owned both still have the c8 but yeah this race pretty much suns it up
Excellent as always. 😁 However, M3 against this maybe a bit better.
I've owned an M2 and a Corvette.
The M2 is a barrel of laughs
The Corvette is the next level
Why is it so hard to set launch control? in a Porsche you just select Sport+ and hold the brake and accelerator
Damn the C8 destroyed the M2 but it makes sense. 200lbs less with more hp and way more torque plus mid engine. Cant beat that in an m2
M2 has 50 more wheel horsepower lmao, these guys just don't know how to drive the M2. You can tell both drivers had significant shifting issues coming out of the U turn as they both left the car in auto shifting mode. Straight up amateurs.
They underrated the m2 engine alot
This was aight . Love the track idea and switching drivers . However They are definitely not James and his buddy at ThrottleHouse
I am once again requesting Porsche GT4 vs C8
Yeap, test against the ERay and Z06
I'd rather be a little slower and look like not an absolute boomer in the street. 15 corvettes for every 1 m2 on the road.
So ... if bmw were to actually build a Corvette competitor, Chevy would be in trouble. The m2 didn't do all that bad .
Hardly
If BMW built a Corvette competitor, it would no longer be a corvette competitor. it would be 3x the price.
@@RYTF5 I agree
U serious? The bmw m3 and m4 xdrive would obliterate this car. The m2 is RWD.
@user-my4xu4gf1z video please ? Or at least some numbers 🤷 also , the both of them start at higher premiums . M3 starts at 76k ... starts .
You kind of wonder if Edmonds knows what they're doing. Everyone knows it's torque over horsepower. But in their little side by side number they do horsepower per the car weight.
the c8 does a 0-60 on the street in 2.8-3.0 all day long...hundreds of youtube videos showing it. they can also run high 10's stock at the track. never seen one run 3.5 to 60.
9:50 - 10:15 it's not clear which cars you're talking bout? Using "that thing" and loosing pointing back and forth between that car and the other, didn't help. So which is sports car, not 100% clear.
Corvette, great car, no doubt. But one ‘corner’ and two straights not the best test. Seems the M2 can stop quicker so lap times on a track might be quicker. M2 not trying to be a 2 seater sports car. Run the same test with 4 people in each car plus luggage and see how it plays out ! Both great cars but not equivalent cars. No harm in the test, enjoyed the video 😊🙏
M3 comp vs Corvette would be better matchup. How did Edmunds really decide on this matchup.....?
Meanwhile on bmw m2 forum people struggle to find different types of excuses for bmw m2.How pathetic.
