Xbox One S Wi-Fi Speed Test 2.4GHz vs 5GHz Which one is Best?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 17 вер 2017
- Hi, this video shows a test on a Xbox One S between the 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi frequency.
The Xbox One S Console and the BT Home Hub 5 Router in the video support 802.11ac and 5GHz. The service provider is Virginmedia with a 70Mbps Download and 5Mbps Upload.
I test in 4 different locations in the house to see which one performs better in each location.
So does the 5GHz frequency work better when you are nearer the router?
Does the 2.4GHz frequency work better when you are further away from the router?
Most routers (Dual Band Routers)select the best option for you automatically but if you have a 2.4GHz only router would it be worth upgrading? or if it is like my Virginmedia router you can have either 2.4GHz or 5GHz but not both so you have to choose between each frequency.
Hopefully this video will give you a better idea of which frequency to choose.
Many thanks Vince - Навчання та стиль
Vince is so polite and respectful to his viewers :) Great educator and UA-camr
Yo 0 , 😜
Thank you for taking the timeout to do this with a xbox one exactly what I needed to see
Thank you that cleared up a lot of confusion for me!
This is an incredibly well done and useful test. Comparing 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz isn't very useful if we don't know how far away the router is from the device, and also how many walls the signal has to pass through in the process.
Still a really great video in 2020 good job dude thanks for the informative video too it helped a lot :)
Wow this is some good testing! Just wow!
Very very appreciate!
You saved people so much time. THANKS SO MUCH
Great video buddy. Much appreciated.
This video was very helpful thx
I'm watching this in 2022 in an attempt to try an understand why the internet speeds on my Series S are so unstable (both wired and wireless, compared to every single gadget I have around). Your tests are incredibly time consuming so really good job there, mate!
Best video explained. That helps plenty...
The back bedroom (extension) would probably benefit from a repeater (extender). Another option is to experiment with high gain antennas. Of course, since you can't change the antenna on the Xbox One S you would need to have a repeater next to it or in "line of sight" wireless range. Sometimes you can outfit your router with an extension cable to an antenna situated closer to the center of the home.
Good Gosh, never get a repeater if you ever want to use connection in between those devices. Use MESH network at minimum or a Powerline connect.
Great video thanks
Bundle of thanks. You saved me an unnecessary purchase of a newish 5ghz smart app blu ray player. This shows I may not be that better off with it for increasing performance of youtube content on my tv. Any thoughts?
I have the same exact Rolex mate haha nice one mate 😁
160ms is too high for online gaming but really appreciate your hard work that you changed multiple areas in your house
I feel like I'm going to call it a "rooter" from this point forward.
Honestly, while 5ghz can be serviceable in many situations, if you can't get a wired connection going, you really need to be using Powerline ethernet. It won't get quite the same raw speed as wired, but latency will tend to be much better than wireless, and latency is what matters here. Also, in my own testing, even having ONE of the devices wired makes a huge difference vs 5ghz wireless.
The world fastest wifi is my McDonald wifi
lol ur funny

Actually its true

Me in the trash behind McDonald using the employee mobile data 🙄
Your house looks quite nice actually tbh
Thanks Vince now i know witch one is better.
By the way best youtuber
Thanks :-)
My Mate VINCE your funny too
Удивительно подробный и грамотный обзор. Спасибо!
5 GHz might have a smaller signal when far away, but the throughput is better so you'd get higher speeds with less signal. It's hard to explain that to someone who's used to thinking like a cell phone where more signal = faster/better speeds..
Can you use the 2 WiFi bands at the same time because the router at my house has both of them enabled at the same time
Thanks man
Great Video. Very helpful and understandable to anyone. Good on you mate.
Very nice! Any kind of external wifi antenna that works on the Xbox one s?
Hi, I have never looked into it but if the Xbox is getting a weak Wi-Fi signal and an Ethernet cable is not an option then using a powerline adapter twin pack with Wi-Fi built into it (or without Wi-Fi) would probably give better results :-)
My Mate VINCE Ok, Thanks!
Thanks
Your videos are very helpful mate. You deserve more subscribers. :D
Thank you.
Hello pal I've got the powerline adapters and want to get one more does it have to be the same model to sync up🤔
Hi, most of them have compatibility with each other apart from the really old ones but it is easier to buy the same brand to make sure all the features advertised do work.
wow you did all this for your viewers...
Ничего не понял, но мужик ты молодец! Спасибо за практический опыт! Век живи, век учись!
How to know if wifi is 2.4 or 5?
I have both and the 5g isn’t recognized by my Xbox, it doesn’t even appear, my other dice es do show it
How do I make ot so my xbox is using 5ghz I have a dual band router
How come my 5G’s not connecting to my PS4? Only on my iPhone is connecting. Please help
this is the closest to a scientific test you can get on the topic on UA-cam.
well done
Hey, just wondering on how you were able to make individual frequencies on one network at the same time?
On the routers app from smartphone
Assuming you have a dual band router, you can login to it and configure. Login info on the side or bottom.
Thx
So which one is better??
i use 100mbs internet and when i choose 5ghz option connection goes between 50-85mbs avarage 75 but when ichoose 2.4ghz its between 60-110mbs avarage 90mbs i have series x
Thanks you Xbox one vs Xbox one s
HOW DO YOU CHANGE IT
How do you change your Xbox to 5ghz
How do u change the band width ?
mine used to be 5.0ghz but know it’s 2.4ghz do you know how to fix it on xbox because i can tell a big difference
Can 2 Xbox one s use the same wifi?
Good
So does the Xbox one X support 5G
Hi vince my Xbox work only if my internet at 5Ghz and doesn't wor at 2.4 plz help!!!!!!
So I use the hotspot on my phone and it's always in the same room as my Xbox and computer when I use it. Would 5 be good like that?
Yea less noise and close range so faster speed
Same applies to a PS4 pro I would assume right?
yes but u know already prob stat safe in 2020
5 is for if the modem is 10 feet away, I'm in California by la so we have spectrum cable internet
what tv do you have
I'm supposedly connected to 5ghz network but my 2.4ghz light is the one blinking on the router when using internet. What do I do???
U probably have somone on it or u connected to 2g it should have 5g conect to that but 5g is slow if ur 10 feet away from modem 5g u need to be not fare from it it slows down bad
@@dudder86ify As shown in the video, 5Ghz can actually be WAY faster than 2.4Ghz at much further than 10 feet (more than twice the speed in the video at 10m). It depends on obstructions in the house, how good your router/Access Point is and how good the client is.
@@alexatkin it was spectrum's router with house phone and modem in one and I switched them now its 300mbps
does anyone know way i can test if it's my wifi or xbox not working right. my wifi has okay signal but usually on my xbox it's starts acting glitchy. i never had a problem before with my wifi or xbox so i can't tell

Clear your Xbox cache by pressing and holding the Xbox power button down for 10 seconds, once done unplug from the wall for 2 minute's.
Plug power back in and boot xbox, job done
UNKN0WNQUANTITY what do u mean by boot Xbox
@@johnnykasabdji8483 "Boot" means to turn on
@Tyler Moar I usually do it every time I finish playing, then plug power cord back in so it's cleared when it's time to play again 👌 never done me any harm
How do you get it on 2.4
My wifi is exactly the same
So on my 5ghz connection my connection test came back with download speed at 180 Mb/s with 100 percent connection. But for some reason when I am downloading a game I watch the download rate and it never really goes above 35-40.
However when I go back to my 2.4ghz, I get consistant 80 mb/s speeds.
I REALLY wanna reach that 180 mb/s it looks so enticing. Any tips?
When you are downloading a game you are downloading it from the games servers, and not from the Xbox server. Just because you get a certain speed on the download test from Xbox doesn’t mean it will always download a game at that speed, it just means that it’s capable of downloading the game at that speed.
Which is the?
I'm from UK too
I have 2 wifis on the same router. One setup for 2.4. One set up for 5ghz. When i plug in my xbox, does it automatically grab the 5? I can't find a setting that says
You grab the one that says 5g
It says on you’re network settings
If you're referring to using the ethernet cable then yes it will automatically use 5G network 😉👍
I’m getting kc WiFi download 400mbps upload 30mpbs
HELP!!!
My internet is really bad in my room and my xfinity router is in the living room downstairs.
How do I get better wifi to my Xbox one and the internet is only bad for my Xbox.
My xfinity inter knee has 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz.
Change the channal in the modem there's videos on how you do it.
How do I use 2.4ghz
Cant decide
My 2.4ghz has 100 % signal strength
And my 5ghz has 55 % signal strength
But down and upload speeds are WAY better on 5ghz
Plz HELP (PS4 Pro)
PazarGaming HD change the location of ur ps4 or the router 4 meboth r in my room ps4 and router
Get closer to the router or get a LAN cable
LAN Cable bro.
If you are getting 55% signal strength on your 5G signal I recommend using 2.4 GHz with Google DNS on your PS4 Pro trust me It is safe to use and it actually improve your download speed and the most important part your network latency will be under 60 MS 😉👍 Also I recommend rebooting your router everyday It will actually help keep the network latency as low as possible for the best online gaming experience 😉👍
Stick with 5ghz always. As suggested above I would recommend placing your router as high as you can for best range. Upgrade it with a Max range router like netgear nighthawk. I rearranged my bedroom to improve my range, placed my router that’s in the living room on a high shelf and I get 100% now on 5ghz. It’s placement and the brand. My consoles in the living room are all wired. Stick with tri band also. It’s worth the investment.
My xbox dont detect the 5ghz WiFi bro:(
Great video
Xbox One Speeds (802.11 N)
2.4GHZ: 50Mbps down and 6 up
5GHZ 80Mbps down and 8 up
Xbox One S speeds (802.11 AC)
2.4GHZ 52mbps down and 6 up
5GHZ 140Mbps and 13mbps up. I was shocked
Devin R
Devin R I
And I’m over here with literally less than 1 mpbs for upload and download speeds lmao fml
Devin R Too bad tbat 5 ghz is shit when going through walls
Yo
Very useful👍 i Prefered 2.4ghz because its more important the latency for me on gaming
your wifi is good
how do you switch from 2.4GHz to 5GHz?
cant matters what type of wifi you buy, but ethernet wifi is way better than 5ghz
@@DukeForthmine has both but idk how to switch on Xbox
2.4 Ghz Wifi has a wider range of coverage the 5 Ghz is faster but shorter range.
To be honest with you 5G Wi-Fi is recommended for online gaming for the best experience as long as your signal strength is at least 90% or 100%, anything lower than that it's going to be a lagfest 🤮 I never liked using 2.4G Wi-Fi It was never meant for online gaming That's why in the past when 5G Wi-Fi wasn't available people used an ethernet cable and it provides the best online gaming experience 2.4G is only good for surfing the web browser or watching online videos I simply do not understand why gaming companies does not take advantage of 5G Wi-Fi such as The PS Vita PSP Nintendo DS family lineup or 3DS family lineup 😤🤦♂️ why is it that handheld gaming devices only support 2G Wi-Fi? Meanwhile smartphones and smart tablets has been supporting 5G Wi-Fi for years before handheld and gaming devices became a thing and don't tell me it has to do with reducing production cost there are literally budget gaming smartphones and smart tablets that only cost between 60-100 dollars And they have 5G Wi-Fi support 🤦♂️ The Nintendo switch is the first handheld gaming device to actually support the latest dual band wireless AC 5G Wi-Fi 😍👍 And I have to give Nintendo serious respect for finally jumping the Wi-Fi upgrade I simply have the best time playing online games without worrying about very high ping levels 🤮 as for my other gaming consoles such as the PS3 & Nintendo Wii U I have them directly connected to a ethernet cable 5 port extender through my TP-Link wireless AC Wi-Fi powerline 😍👍 And I have zero lag at all 😍👍 anyway this video was really informative exactly what I was looking for 😉👍
my wired speed is like your 2.4ghz back room lol i wish i was farster!
You sound like Jamie Oliver
The xb all models have 5 ghz wifi receivers?
No. I dont think all do i think only modern xbox consoles do
@@horrorproductions9842 thanks for that. BTW i referred to xbo not all models.
@@TheKeithvidz yea i only think it works on modern xbox console

I get 105.57 upload is 15.1 latency is 30 on mine
I get 3kb/download and 1kb upload normally, with 60 ms latency:(

Hey I have a 200mb download and a 20mb upload my Xbox is in my room and I get around 90% signal. When I play gta online for example I'll disconnect from live and reconnect again. Almost as if my signal drops suddenly or something. Could this he because I'm using the 5ghz band and I'm simply too far away for it to work stable?
Josh Dobson GTA and wifi don't mix well. You will get the same issues either way playing gta on wifi. Same goes for any other bigger game with open worlds.
Joe K.O.S I tried this wired too and get similar results. Although since changing from the 5ghz band to the lower one it's worked a lot better. The bt webpage does state that the Xbox has issues with the 5ghz band. I get around 80mb download without the 5ghz but it works a lot better.
the more you know
5ghz if your like me watching movies hd streams.
Cool video🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
Or just go hard wired, simple.
Yes wired is always the best :-) but the Wi-Fi like 802.11ac is starting to close the gap on short range.
The Muffin Man Not always.

Not every on lives in a 1 room house.
The Muffin Man i cant get the lag out of my fifa 18 game play even hard wired. So im trying different options.
My players get really clumbsy and slow.
Well I used my phone cuz iam poor
Solve your McDonald’s WiFi problems. Just get an Ethernet wire and plug it in and you should have minimal lags to non most of the game play.
Noah Ortega would I need a modem with internet or just a router ?
You sound a bit like Russell Brand
Question how do you set up the 5ghz frequency on the router?
Some routers pick the best signal automatically but on others you have to dial into the router and then select 5GHz. To dial into the router to access its settings you would type something like 192.168.1.254 into the web browser. Google 'how to access BT Home Hub5 settings' etc. replacing BT router with your current router.
My Mate VINCE. Thanks
