I will definitely hold on to it for another year until the security updates stop. Hopefully a few good compacts make a return.
I was in a market for a new phone after holding onto to my Xperia Compact for 5 years (due to its small size). I just upgraded to a Galaxy S22+ from the S10e. Bear in mind I had that phone since a couple months after it was released (a little over 3 years as of writing this), and used it HEAVILY for literally everything. Here are my thoughts: Overall the S22+ is generally better, but not as much as you'd think. The screen is larger and nicer, and the battery life is noticeably better, but there are a lot of features I really miss on my S10e, most notably the fingerprint reader. The in screen reader is okay, but I find it often misreads my prints. Mind you I saved the same finger twice to give the phone more of a chance to read it correctly. The one on the S10e is just lightning fast and accurate, and much easier to use everyday. The size of the S10e is underrated. In a world where everyone wants the largest phones with the biggest screens, they forget how convenient it is to be able to comfortably use a phone with one hand. Texting, scrolling, and just overall daily use is way easier on my S10e. And then the headphone jack and SD card, or lack there of on my S22+. Excellent, in-depth comparison. Have had the S10e a few years and was considering the S22 since it seemed to be made in the spirit of the S10e size-wise but I have a feeling I would be annoyed by the same things you are -- the slightly less forgiving handling due to the angled edges and your fingers having to rest on the camera bump when using it. Six months after this video came out and I've bought an S10e ...why? -It's more than good enough and far, far, cheaper today than an artificially broken S22 -It has a headphone jack and a MidroSD slot (the lack of which are an absolute deal breaker for me!!!) -Smartphones have gotten idiotically big, the S10e is absolutely the largest phone I'd even consider buying -I was actually considering getting a Unihertz Pebble 2 but it's just a little too small - 4.5" - 5.5" would ideal, preferably with a swappable battery! -There's nothing wrong with the Blackberry Passport I'm still complexly happy with as my daily driver, indeed I still consider it the best smart phone I've ever had by a country mile. I would continue to use it but for enforced artificial obsolescence - Too many apps I use every day now refuse to work without an unnecessary update and then refuse to update because 'my phone is too old', not because they couldn't run - Grrr! (You can work around that, and I have, but it's getting to the point where my 'out of date' versions are getting rejected so won't function anyway - Grrr!) -Let's all go 'eff the environment, eh? Hypocritical, self-serving, short-sighted, manipulative manufacturers Grrr! I guess if this blasted trend of artificial obsolescence robbing people of the devices they are happy with, while enforcing ever more inconvenient to use phones that have more and more essential features removed, so requiring the purchase of yet more expensive extras to function to the determent of the environment is to continue my next phone will just be a dumb handset and I'll keep a laptop on hand - Grrr!

I have a Samsung s4 and I think it’s time for an upgrade. My phone only stays on for an hour before it dies and it constantly reboots. I’m deciding between the s10e, the s22, the iPhone 8 or the iPhone 14 pro. Which one should I get?
I have s10e and s22 and s22plus side by side at the moment. I dont agree with camera on s22 being "definitely better" or "much sharper" as you described...
@@JosephKim yea, even with all the cons you mentioned, it is hard to pass up the deal at Google Fi right now for $300. Even if I don't get to sell my s10e, I can still trade it in for $127 to google after I receive s22, making s22 practically $180 + 4 months of service at $20/month. I also did not have strong reasons to upgrade to s22 especially at its MSRP or $500+ directly from Samsung but I've decided to just keep it as the deal at Google Fi was too good. edit: to add that while s10e has aged well, the official major android version upgrade support has ended for s10e with oneui 4.1 while s22 still has 4 years of major upgrades left.
@@ca9793 no, that's absolutely fair. It was kinda hard for me to pass up either as I can updrade to s22 for free. (with 30 mo contract). And I also noticed (after I made the video) that my S10e's battery life is quite not the same.
I am mostly keeping it at the charger throughout the day. So, I don't have much concerns in battery life. Depending on the age of the unit, you will notice the capacity reduction in batteries.
Finally someone like minded ..the only things i would like to be better on my s10e would be battery and zoom camera ..its hard to take a good picture in gym
Got a Samsung fold5, needed a small phone for the gym, walking the dog etc.. Remembered the s10e, got one nicely used for 75$.. It's perfect even in 2024 😅 Love the weight and size, everything works fine even tho it's 60hz and not 120hz.. Putting it on the wireless charger when I'm at home using my fold5.. Hope it can last a couple of more years, since they no longer make so small lightweight phones :/ Thanks for the video.
Though the size of S22 seems only a bit bigger for me with small hands it was awful to handle - as you said the S10e is rounded which is easier for me to hold and handle. I couldn't get my hand around the S22 well, it felt sharp. I was also disappointed with the battery too on the S22, I thought I would see a fair improvement but not that much really for my use. The camera is better but the S10e is still a very good camera. Personally I don't think this is worth it. Not for small hands and those few mm and the sharp edges really make it hard to hold. Put a case on - even a slim one and you really can tell the difference it really bulks it - it is hard to hold. Also screen protectors are a problem as most don't work well the the fingerprint sensor on the front. Such a shame. I wish Samsung would bring out a newer very similar phone to the s10e. I also think the call quality is better on the S10e. So I really think hang on to your s10e as long as possible IMO.
:) WELL DONE! I have an S10e, and then went to an A52s, too big, then upgraded to S10:) Samsung doing away with headhone jack and expandable storage, mwens NO MORE Samsung for me :( Still use BOTH S10's :) ALL the BEST and Cheers!
Just purchased a sealed s10e, fingers crossed the battery has survived (and is still healthy after 4 years of storage). I'll be switching from a pixel 7 due its screen dimming from heavy use or charging, not great when you're driving and charging in warm climates where you need the screen to be bright for navigation. With the insane pricing of modern phones i started considering previous Gen phones and hopefully I'm making the right choice this deep into 2023. Anyone else buy a new s10e recently? I'm curious about what kind of battery life I'll get with a sealed new phone that's been sitting for so long.
@Joseph Kim For the price it was worth a shot. I used to own one and the only pain point was the battery, but I bought used so who knows how bad it could've been. This time around I'm trying the 256gb 8gb model, hoping the additional ram helps with the aging hardware. Your vid makes me hopeful.
I bought a sealed flamingo pink one from a seller on ebay for $179. It has predictably ok battery life based on the battery size. Less than what I was used to coming from bigger phones but acceptable and has improved after the first week (the whole, phone learns your usage habits thing). That said, I bought an s22 too and love it as well. I'm a phone-aloholic though and only ever use a phone for a few days before switching to another from my collection. The colors on the s10e encourage rocking it case less because they're so damned vibrant (I keep mine in a clear display case when not in use)
You're not too old. S10e is smaller and lighter and S22 has better night mode and telephoto and they removed the 3.5mm jack. Otherwise, they're the same. I see no point in upgrading. Maybe if S23 has a significantly better camera.
Hello from the Philippines. I like the form factor of the S10e. I have an S9 right now. My problem is the battery performance. I feel the need to upgrade because of this reason. Do you think upgrading to the S10e is better or upgrade to the S9+? Thank you so much. - Cris
It is quite likely that there is no new S9 or S10e as Samsung is not making more of them. And the battery lasts lesser as it gets old. I'd say to just replace your phone's battery if you just need more life out of them.
Yes, it has :) Unfortunately, I don't think you can solve it with a case. It is the camera bump and the rectangular edges of the phone that made it much bigger. It's physically not possible for case to accommodate that.
S10e size with case is still smaller than s22 without a case. I like to upgrade but seems more like a downgrade going from an s10e user experience. Thanks for the video I thought maybe it was just me?! lol
I came from S10 long time user like 2 years, but dang this new S 22 it's so I don't know the word but for me it the best S line so far. I don't wanna go to the specs ,but the felling it's so premium and well build. The screen it's so spot on,the only downsize is the battery, I guess still learns from my daily usage of my phone.
@@theawesomenoob6238 2 years later, are you still using the s22? Are you using a base s22? I'm getting it for Christmas and hear a lot of bad things about the battery. Is the camera also still considered good going into 2025?

I'm about to switch to the Galaxy S22 when I return to Hong Kong on December 2022 and I'll buy it using the consumption voucher alongside the Galaxy Buds 2 and the Samsung 65 Watt Trio Universal Power Adapter because 2022 marks the last time the S10 series receive operating system updates. Also, neither my Galaxy Tab S8 nor my upcoming Galaxy S22 come with a headphone jack, a USB Type C headphone and a fast charger, according to the Samsung Members app, I should use an authentic Samsung charger.
I rock a pair of the S10e on 2 lines and have another pair waiting in their boxes. It's the last perfect phone and I intend to use them deep into 2025.

Thank you for this comparison! I think exactly the same way about phone sizes. Believe it or not, until now (Sep 2023) I'm still using my lovely small Galaxy A3. Unfortunately the internal memory is much too small and now some new apps won't work with the old Android 8 anymore. So I will buy a S10e and use this until Samsung will release smaller devices again... I hope so! Greetings from Germany.
S2 was the perfecr size phone no phone should be larger than 5" its not practical. Just Imagin there was a 5" bezel less flagship phone the world would be such a better place:)
@Alim B. It's still fine. But not as good as something 3 years newer. The differences are negligible , but, for example, the pixel 6a has similar specs, but a better processor, better camera, better screen and better software. I like the pixel better, but I hate that there isn't a head phone jack or expandable memory. But you're gonna probably lose that with any new phone you upgrade too. I only upgraded for 2 reasons. Battery wasn't the best anymore on my s10e and the pixel 6a was free.

-Smartphones have gotten idiotically big, the S10e is absolutely the largest phone I'd even consider buying
-I was actually considering getting a Unihertz Pebble 2 but it's just a little too small - 4.5" - 5.5" would ideal, preferably with a swappable battery!
(You can work around that, and I have, but it's getting to the point where my 'out of date' versions are getting rejected so won't function anyway - Grrr!)
-Let's all go 'eff the environment, eh? Hypocritical, self-serving, short-sighted, manipulative manufacturers Grrr!
I guess if this blasted trend of artificial obsolescence robbing people of the devices they are happy with, while enforcing ever more inconvenient to use phones that have more and more essential features removed, so requiring the purchase of yet more expensive extras to function to the determent of the environment is to continue my next phone will just be a dumb handset and I'll keep a laptop on hand - Grrr!
Yeah, it was good when phones were actually one-hand-able.
A veces si es porque no puede correr la aplicación porque el tiempo pasa y las aplicaciones se vuelven mucho más exigentes
Where did you buy the case of the s10e please ?
Ebay
Is the S10e unlocked for gsm & cdma ?
That depends on what you buy.
Did you mention the 3.5mm jack and USB card extension? These are major features for some people (like me) :)
Yep! :)
Any consensus from the community on an actual worthy successor to this phone? Still using mine even though battery isn't what it used to be.
The same here. S23 was closest I think. (which I have, but don't use) and the new S24 is about the same as S23 I think.
Was wondering if you stayed using the s10e or s22? If the s22 how was the adjustment going? Thanks
I returned s22, and am typing this on S10e
@@JosephKim awesome 👍🏽I'm returning my s22 and awaiting my s10e I ordered 😎👌🏾. I water damaged my other s10e and got the s22.... Not feeling it after two weeks with it so back it goes.
I love the flow of your review. Thank you! And yes I can't agree more that the corners of s10e and it's very minor(mm difference) will be noticeable when in daily use.
Oh yes! :)
This is the 3rd video I watched on this, looks like I'll be keeping my S10e and wait for the S23.
:)
Meet the S23. Same as the S22.
@@xXxNoisemaker no es igual
Good review, I think im sticking with my s10e😀
Me too!
Mr. Kim I thank for your detailed comparison and valuable information you have given, myself I totally agree with you.
Thanks!
I have a Samsung s4 and I think it’s time for an upgrade. My phone only stays on for an hour before it dies and it constantly reboots. I’m deciding between the s10e, the s22, the iPhone 8 or the iPhone 14 pro. Which one should I get?
You make the choice! I stuck with S10e.
El iphone 14 pro tiene mejor potencia y hardware, mejor camara y mejor batería
I have s10e and s22 and s22plus side by side at the moment. I dont agree with camera on s22 being "definitely better" or "much sharper" as you described...
Maybe not in the bright sunlight, but it was much better in dark areas. At least in my eyes for both regular and wide lenses.
And I also noticed (after I made the video) that my S10e's battery life is quite not the same.
hi very nice video. i’m thinking of buying used s10e, but how’s the battery does it last all day?
I am mostly keeping it at the charger throughout the day. So, I don't have much concerns in battery life. Depending on the age of the unit, you will notice the capacity reduction in batteries.
I really love my s10e but the screen goes blank and glitchy, my only con in this phone is the battery.
Maybe your unit is at its end? Yeah. The battery isn't great. :/
Finally someone like minded ..the only things i would like to be better on my s10e would be battery and zoom camera ..its hard to take a good picture in gym
Yeah, slightly better camera. The new ones are just bigger in the hand.
Hope it can last a couple of more years, since they no longer make so small lightweight phones :/
Thanks for the video.
Yeah!
Can we install stock firmware so that we can get OTA updates?
I am not entirely sure what you mean.
Yeah! Now the question is S23.
@@JosephKim I would love to see you do a similar review with the S23 vs S10e.
hi wich one should I choose between s10e ,s10 and iPhone xs
I can't tell you what to get. But I still use s10e
@@JosephKim do you think I can keep it (s10e) for the next 3 years ?
@@EnzooznE probably not.
@@JosephKim Ok thx and what about the xs
@@EnzooznE I have not tried XS
:) WELL DONE! I have an S10e, and then went to an A52s, too big, then upgraded to S10:) Samsung doing away with headhone jack and expandable storage, mwens NO MORE Samsung for me :( Still use BOTH S10's :) ALL the BEST and Cheers!
Yeah! It is unfortunate.
I got two 'refurbished' ones and they had better battery than mine that I used for 4 years. So, I'd say you have better chance for sure.
Very good video love the smaller phones !
Me too!
S22 is getting too big but I like that the 10e is all screen versus the likes of iPhone SE.
Yep!
i came from s8 to a32 which was huge...phone was too big then my brother gave me s10e...love the size
It really is a keeper!
You're not too old. S10e is smaller and lighter and S22 has better night mode and telephoto and they removed the 3.5mm jack. Otherwise, they're the same. I see no point in upgrading. Maybe if S23 has a significantly better camera.
Thanks for that ;)
Hello from the Philippines.
@@JosephKim Thank you so much!
Actualiza al s10e
It almost ended up like a case review. A different case might have solved your handling issues as there are thinner and lighter cases than spigen.
Yes, it has :) Unfortunately, I don't think you can solve it with a case. It is the camera bump and the rectangular edges of the phone that made it much bigger. It's physically not possible for case to accommodate that.
I honestly think s22 is a minimal upgrade from s10e. S10e has the best size to weight ratio except battery, I struggled to make it through the day.
@@joyahub I agree. S10e is such a good phone. I usually just charge the phone on my desk throughout the day, it isn't much a problem.
S10e size with case is still smaller than s22 without a case. I like to upgrade but seems more like a downgrade going from an s10e user experience. Thanks for the video I thought maybe it was just me?! lol
@@xi30ne72 thanks, bud :)
I have both Samsung Galaxy S10e and Samsung Galaxy S22 using it for my hands comfortably
I have extra small hands 🤣
I came from S10 long time user like 2 years, but dang this new S 22 it's so I don't know the word but for me it the best S line so far. I don't wanna go to the specs ,but the felling it's so premium and well build. The screen it's so spot on,the only downsize is the battery, I guess still learns from my daily usage of my phone.
@@theawesomenoob6238 2 years later, are you still using the s22? Are you using a base s22? I'm getting it for Christmas and hear a lot of bad things about the battery. Is the camera also still considered good going into 2025?
November 2022. The S22 is attractive but due to the lack of a 3.5mm audio jack I purchased an S10e which I really like.
You mean November 2022? You from future?!?
My S10e only got 1 GB left.
I hope Samsung S23 has 256 GB since 128 GB is not much anymore.
I always buy the lowest storage, since it's cheaper.
I got it yesterday and it should be coming in on either Thursday or Friday or Saturday but sometime this week I mean literally 3 to 4 days from now not that long but anyways I got it because it was 128 GB flamingo pink and after a while having having 32 GB on your phone it's kind of annoying when 14 to 15 of that go to the operating system plus I literally told my dad that the only reason I didn't throw this thing like a frisbee as hard as I possibly could it's because I don't want to get in trouble very glad I got this phone very glad of what I get with it first time ever I'm having a phone with a wireless freaking charging
Yay! Love wireless charging.
I want to also upgrade without paying much can you be of help
I wish that too. But I'm afraid I can't help.
Enjoy S22! Still is a good device.
slightly faster. not really worth the upgrade for most people
:)
I rock a pair of the S10e on 2 lines and have another pair waiting in their boxes. It's the last perfect phone and I intend to use them deep into 2025.
I just hope the batters hold up!
@@JosephKim , having 2 of them means I never have to use a phone with a charger. I kepp the back-ups charged below 80%, so they should be fine.
Informative ^^b
Keep It Up
Your Review Is Superb
Thank you!
Hope they will make one hand phone with 3.5 headphone jack
Since they have been out once, I doubt they will reintroduce 😔
The Sony Xperia still have. Only flagship phones with audio jack
Asus zenfone 8 also but if you want the samsung system its a problem
I also just looked at Zenfone 9 as it is just out. I can't do one without wireless charging.
💯 p3rc3nt with you Bro! And with the other guys on the comments. We are all here for the SAME REASON, we don’t go along with BIGGER SCREENS, we are pragmatic and do with COMPACT PHONES. And we are OLD SCHOOL, want SD Cards, want audio jack. We don’t brag about latest phone, and its screen. For God’s sake Samsung, please listen to your SMARTEST customers here.
👍
Thank you for making this video. You just helped choose to avoid upgrading to the S23. The S10e shall continue on lol
Just hoping it to last longer!
I did buy S23. But I still use S10e! 🤣
S2 was the perfecr size phone no phone should be larger than 5" its not practical. Just Imagin there was a 5" bezel less flagship phone the world would be such a better place:)
No, el mundo también necesita consumir multimedia y las pantallas pequeñas no son las mejores para eso
new subscriber here 😎
Yay!
and new phones aways feel snappier. phones slow down with age
Unfortunately, it does. Or at least feels that way.
@Alim B. 👍
S22 battery is almost like my j7 pro battery well my phone can do 6-7hrs sot so i maybe have an idea on s22 battery life 😌
👍
Nice job on the Comparison… yeah the S-10 will get one more year of security update so it’s good for one more year.
Yep!
I upgraded from a s10e to the s22, yeah the upgrade feels nice, but honestly I should have waited a year.
No security updates are no big deal honestly most users won't ever notice. My aunt still uses my old galaxy S7 as her phone.
@@ThePolulos I work for a crypto trading platform and trust me security updates matter my g.
@@ThePolulos Yes I’m sure it’s great for your aunt I understand but she probably doesn’t do all her banking and bill paying and investing with apps on her phone in so it’s no big deal but for those of us who do we need a phone with up-to-date security patches so for older users who just use their phone for basic things you’re right there’s no reason on the phone with no security is fine
I got tired of big phones.i just got my s10e a few days ago .
How do you like it? :)
