  • This tutorial is done in the Overlay Mosaic Crochet Technique. THIS VIDEO IS FOR A BEGINNER CROCHETER AS WELL AS SOMEONE WHO IS NEW TO THIS TECHNIQUE.
    For those who want to do additional repeats of the pattern you will rewind back to Row 2 and do Row 2 through 11 Row 2 starts at 07:00
    Row 1: 02:20
    Row 2: 07:00
    Row 3: 08:16
    Row 4: 10:50
    Row 5: 18:40
    Row 6: 24:55
    Row 7: 29:41
    Row 8: 34:52
    Row 9: 41:15
    Row 10: 45:20
    Row 11: 48:54
    Welcome to Mosaic Monday!
    In this tutorial I will teach you how to crochet this eye catching Mosaic design. This pattern is worked in a NEW MULTIPLE and is not Part of the Crochet Along (CAL).
    The chart for this is in my Etsy shop which you can find here:
    www.etsy.com/F...
    You DO NOT need the chart to do this tutorial, every row is shown in the tutorial. The chart is only available for those who wish to purchase it instead of following the tutorial here on UA-cam. The file contains both the single repeat taught here in this video and the additional repeats for those who want to continue for multiple repeats of the pattern. NOTE: Ravelry no longer accepts chart only uploads so unfortunately I can only utilize my Etsy shop at this time.
    Mosaic crochet is great for all skill levels and can be used to create many different things such as blankets, pillows, purses/bags, totes and garments. You can crochet these patterns in any combination you would like or just choose one and make and entire project with the same design. The result will be an eye catching, geometric design that is unisex and versatile.
    Suggested starting chains for various projects - counts include +2 at end:
    Baby blanket: 102 to 122 chains depending on yarn size used
    Throw blanket : 162 chains, yarn size will affect total width and the number of repeats I'd up to you and will determine total length
    Tote or Throw Pillow: 42 chains or 54 chains depending on yarn size used and desired size
    Makeup or Notions bag: 32 chains
    Scarf: 32 to 42 chains depending on yarn size used and desired width. I recommend size 3 light weight yarn or smaller for wearables.
    You can create any project you like from Mosaic Crochet, these are just a few suggestions!
    HOOK SIZE: I am using a 5mm hook in this tutorial. I recommend using the below hook sizes depending on yarn used:
    3 DK yarn : 3.5mm to 4mm
    Size 4 Medium/worsted weight: 5mm to 5.5mm.
    Mixing 3 & 4 weight: 4mm to 4.5mm
    THE YARN: I'm using size 4 yarn, any brand will work as well as any size. I love using DK weight yarn for Mosaics...If you are looking for some new yarns to try, check out Deramores! they have a huge selection of all kinds if yarn! And if you want to save $5.00 on your first order you can use this link to check out their yarns: i.refs.cc/jQr71...
    Note on mixing yarn sizes 3 (DK) & Size 4 (Medium Worsted weight): THE TRICK TO MIXING YARN SIZES IS JUST KEEPING YOUR TENSION EVEN AND USING THE SMALLEST SIZE HOOK RECOMMENDED FOR THE SMALLER YARN! You can use any yarn size you like and can use yarn that is all the same size, you do not have to mix yarn sizes.
    To begin your project you will chain in multiples of 10 plus 2 at the end. You will skip the first chain and begin working in the second chain from the hook, ending up with an odd number of stitches. EXAMPLE: I chained 32 and had 31 stitches at the end of my first Foundation Row.
    Stitches used in this project: Back Loop Single Crochet and Front Loop Double Crochet (drop down double crochet as I like to call it).

    Thanks a lot! Its so beautiful. My uncle has cancer in the terminal stage, and I was looking for a very nice pattern for the scarf I´m knitting for him, it´s winter here in Argentina, and I think he will love it. I will add it to the extremes of the scarf. Kisses and love from the cold cold south!

    I really like this pattern. You have lots of patterns to help me use up about 10 pillows. I was crazy to buy. Yes! I do tend to shop a lot but I never drop because on line is forever lol. I have a tricky request for you. What do you think of trying a round pattern for a 16 in seat cushion? I bought from Wally World AKA Wal-Mart 8 of them. Thought I make some for my cat's. :)

    • @FiberFoxStudios
      @FiberFoxStudios  4 роки тому

      Hey no judgement! Shop as much as you like!!! I certainly have no room to talk either lololol I have really been struggling with figuring out mosaics in the round like what you would need for those. I am trying though and I won't give up! I can turn any of my current designs into something in the round to make cylinders but figuring out like a granny square in the round that I can teach is what I'm trying to figure out. Each time i get a new idea i try it and can't seem to have that breakthrough I need lol

    I am making a blanket starting with pattern 12 and pattern 1 for the body of the blanket. I believe they are 12 stitches plus 2. Can this be done with this pattern with a 12 plus 2 ?

    • @FiberFoxStudios
      @FiberFoxStudios  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Diane! It's a little tricky to explain but yes you can mix different mosaics together that have different multiples. It's all in the math really. So take the larger multiple and multiply it first. So for example a baby blanket size...12x10 = 120 stitches plus 2 at the end = 122 total chains. Then multiply your next pattern multiple to get you as close to the larger multiple. So example a 10 +2 ×old work out 10 x 12 = 120 + 2 = 122 total chains. So those two multiples work out perfectly. One of the extra stitches that we have you add to the end is always a turning chain so those patterns would both end up with 121 stitches when you start working your rows.
      I hope this helps and doesn't confuse you more! Let me know if you have any more questions.
      I'm also trying to plan a video on how to mix patterns so I can explain it hopefully better in that video.

    The sample size looks like a great border for my blanket.. Jacobs ladder in trio of Gray...
    How do you enlarge the mosaic..5-6 inches would be wonderful for my project to break up ...
    Please reply.

      Hi there!! Thank you so much! There isn't an easy answer for this one, I had to figure it out on my chart and it changes several things. You would have to: complete Row 5 and 6 as done in the tutorial and then before moving on you would need to do a new version of Row 5, then row 6 as shown in the video again. It would require you change the repeat on row 5 when you do it a second time to include extra drop dc to frame it so it has the same look. So the second NEW row 5 would be a repeat of 2 drop dc, 1 bk loop sc, 1 drop dc, 1 bk loop sc, 1 drop dc, 1 bk loop, 2 drop dc, 1 bk loop sc. Then you do Row 6 as taught IN THE VIDEO. If you are happy with the size you would then move on to Row 7 as taught in the video. For the size you are hoping for You may need to do New Row 5 and 6 which doesn't change from my video a few times before you move along with Row 7 and the rest of the rows as stated in the tutorial. Where ever you stretch the pattern you will have to do so by adding two more rows each time to keep the color sequence so you can use the rest if the tutorial to pick back up with the next row after you do the stretch. Hope this helps.

    • @FiberFoxStudios
      @FiberFoxStudios  4 роки тому +1

      I'm quite sure that you could work it in the round, I believe you just need to drop the 2 border stitches... which is the traditional single crochets at the beginning and end

    • @FiberFoxStudios
      @FiberFoxStudios  4 роки тому +1

      Wait I just came out for my lunch break and remembered that I have the swatch with me. Looking at it you would drop one of the traditional single crochets and then the other will become a back loop only single crochet. So reduce the starting chain by one stitch and join it into your round so that when you start working it will start with half the pattern just like in the video and when you come back around you will finish the other half of the pattern. The rows have half a pattern at the beginning and end on my swatch so working in the round you should end up with even full patterns as you come back around. Also when you move up to the next row make sure you work into the stitch so you stay even. Hope that makes sense!
