House of the Dragon is Game of Thrones successor show based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, a history of House Targaryen set 300 years before the events in GoT. The showrunners of House of the Dragon are Ryan Condal along with battle-tested GoT veteran Miguel Sapochnik.
Set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series tells the story of a turbulent period for House Targaryen, one that set sibling against sibling and dragon against dragon. The point of contention: who should rule on the Iron Throne, of course.
“If you’d like to know a bit more of what the show will be about… well, I can’t actually spill those beans,” Martin teased in his blog, “but you might want to pick up a copy of two anthologies I did with Gardner Dozois, Dangerous Women, and Rogues and then move on to ArchmaesterGyldayn’s history, Fire & Blood.”
Dangerous Women includes what press materials describe as a “35,000-word novella” by Martin called “The Princess and the Queen, or, the Blacks and the Greens,” which is “about the Dance of the Dragons, the vast civil war that tore Westeros apart nearly two centuries before the events of A Game of Thrones.”
Rogues, meanwhile, includes Martin’s story “The Rogue Prince, or, a King’s Brother,” which chronicles “the early life, adventures, misdeeds, and marriages of Prince Daemon Targaryen,” considered “one of the biggest rogues in the entire history of Ice and Fire.”
Finally, the novel Fire & Blood, released in November 2018, is the first novel of a two-part history of the Targaryens in Westeros.
“Centuries before the events of A Game of Thrones, House Targaryen - the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria - took up residence on Dragonstone,” according to the book’s description on the author’s site. “Fire & Blood begins their tale with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold that iconic seat, all the way up to the civil war that nearly tore their dynasty apart.”
House of the Dragon will be about Dance of the Dragons, the Targaryen civil war.
About George R.R. Martin’s involvement we know only what he stated himself. George R.R. Martin stated: "I expect to be involved in [House of the Dragons] to some extent...and, who knows, if things work out, I may even be able to script a few episodes, as I did for the first four seasons of GAME OF THRONES. But... let me make this perfectly clear... I am not taking on any scripts until I have finished and delivered WINDS OF WINTER. Winter is still coming, and WINDS remains my priority, as much as I'd love to write an episode of HOUSE."

I had to read that twice to get it lol
I liked that Targaryens got their pride pricked in Dorne. They literally started to consider them as gods because of their victories. Meria was such a brave lady! Blind and physically fatigued yet she defied Rhaenys when she clearly realized that Rhaenys had a dragon with her! And eventually they managed to kill both of them!!
I can't wait to watch a whole series based on Dornish history!

Martells and Dorne is so badass that Aegon the Conqueror did not conquer it. None of the Targaryens ever conquered them. They joined the Seven Kingdoms by marriage

Hearing the actors narrate them just amplifies my love of dornish lore and history. Like the starks they ruled their lands even if the targaryens could burn them. And i loved the north because they were fiercely loyal to their own as the dornish were.

Except they wouldn't because their Rhoynish ancestors know how destructive and horrifying dragons are.
So when they came to Dorne they bought their bolt throwers from Lys and fought the Targaryens to the death. They'd rather die than be subjugated once more to these dragon riding assholes.

Fire & Blood is such a great book. I most enjoyed reading about Aegon the Conqueror’s son Maegor the Cruel. Such an epic character

Like it or not, Maegor creates a lot of the essential tokens of a King's Landing ruler - masters/mistresses of whispers, torture (or "sharp questioning") chambers, secret passages, it's almost impossible to imagine subsequent kings and queens functioning without these things.
Jaehaerys Targaryen is the GOAT character in Westeros history. Peace and prosperity for 55 years.
If you look at the subtext, his latent misogyny led to the death of at least one daughter, maybe two. He constantly ignores his wife until she has to shove truths down his throat. And passing over the obvious heir, the eldest daughter of his eldest son, opened up the perception of the lords to the idea that Targaryens are fallible, that they make mistakes. Having to ask for their opinions in 101, all because he didn't want to name a woman heir, opened their House up to doubt and scrutiny that led to the Dance. 55 years of peace, but frankly, Viserys had little chance to avoid a succession war because his grandfather had already sown the seeds. Just an opinion, but it's worth rereading and looking out for all the times that Jahaerys allowed the misogyny of Westeros to dictate his decisions.

probably that Rhaenys was alive and captured by them but Aegon and Visenya burned her while burning all of Dorne, would explain why Aegon all of the sudden stopped the conquest

@@gloriaemperatia5542 Interesting theory. If that were the case, why would Princess Meria not say so and end the war? Princess Deria delivered the letter after Meria died. Once Prince Nymor ruled Dorne he sent Deria to deliver the letter. My theory is they kept Rhaenys alive torturing her and Prince Nymor decided to broker peace by returning her-- dying-- to Dragonstone.
There are several theories. One is Rhaenys was imprisoned and under torture. She would be freed of her misery if they sued for peace. Another is Dorne willing to spend all their gold to hire a Faceless Man to kill Aenys

the story of dorne is very similar to the Moroccan kingdom one the first to rebel against the tyrant Arabs and broke their empire then multiple wars against the Europeans then Arabs tried to retrieve it for centuries but with no success, even the Turkish empire tried and we broke its dreams of reaching the ocean of darkness (the Atlantic) a very fascinating history and rich of events if they made a tv show about it it will be more epic than GOT minus magic and dragons.

@@bait5257 Which one are you referring to? The only ones that haven’t come out yet that haven’t been covered on the big screen are The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring which are both supposed to be the appropriate ending to Game of Thrones which has already ended in 2019.

House martell was a powerhouse. They stood up to the targaryens who conquered the 6 kingdoms and defeated a dragon, a feat no other houses achieved. They did not surrender to the targaryens but united with them. The series wronged them and wasted them. Oberyn had great potential but he was killed off, Ellaria couldve been a worthy and strong leader like Nymeria but they reduced her to a revenge-seeking, bitter usurper. Doran was a crippled, and even with his disability, I expected him to be fierce and headstrong like Meria but he was nothing but useless. His son wasnt even given enough attention to prove himself and gets killed off easily, the sand serpents were interesting and could have been more but theor writing was so poor. Ugh I still cant get over the fact how such a great house was reduced to a complete mess and gets overshadowed by the likes of house stark, lannister and even the tyrells.
