I'm running this with the war doctor and Martha (only for blue) tomorrow at my lgs Dr who release event. I think he's the strongest pick with all of the suspend and exile synergies. ESPECIALLY with day of the doctor. (You monsters!) 😂
This deck is insane value wise as the new cards are very good and will hold value. Maths on just reprints, with this in mind, doesn’t do this deck justice. I appreciate you are aware of this… would be great to revisit the value of some of these precons; accomodating for the cost of new cards a year down the track. Otherwise great review.
Idris lets you protect any artifact that you REALLY need the ability of. If you have an artifact thats a part of a combo or something, now your opponents need to use two removal spells to stop your combo rather than just one.
56:46 I think Idris is there to exile the TARDIS and become a 5/5 flyer with cascade. it triggers 10th doctor's allonsy and exiles a lot of cards, which triggers the war doctor.
Recently, I discover it works amazing with the Wedding Ring as well! It gains +4/+4 and has all the triggered abilities, so you draw and gain life when your opp does, but without the downgrade!
God as someone who does business intelligence and analytics, seeing Rachel pop off and be so passionate about the data and breakdowns of cost is just amazing. Muah, chefs kiss!
Neat thing that wasn't mentioned is Chronozoa, 3U for a 3/3 flyer with Vanishing 3 and if it dies while not having time counters it splits into two copies of itself. 10s Timey-Wimey ability doubles the number of Chronozoa you have every time you activate it and you can very quickly flood the board with 3/3 flyers.
The 11th hour is actually really good in the deck cause u grab the war doctor and copy the 10th doctor. So u get a big beat stick and suspending 2 cards per combat
My favorite part about the time counter theme is that it effectively allows you to play banned cards. There's a suspend version of a Moxen, Sol Ring, Black Lotus, Ancestral Recall, Balance, and more.
Unless you have other cards that benefit a lot from reduced activation costs, I think you would be better off with just adding mana. Even at a reduced 5 cost, you’re rarely going to ever activate it more than once a turn.
@@Dragon_Fyre I thought about that until I realized the deck runs through the commander. If the commander isn't out, the deck doesn't run well. It is simply too slow without him. Either way, mana reducers or ramp is needed to activate. In my Scarab God deck, I run Training Grounds. He is the only creature that has an activated ability, but tg helps so much with his activation since I can activate him twice as much. I see a similar thing with the 10th Doctor. Zirda helps with redundancy if the additional reduction is achieved.
@@theotherguy4478 Mana sources would additionally help cast other spells or help with Commander tax. Scarab God is 5 cmc, and ability is 2UB so a reduction of 2 can help you use that ability more than once a turn (you might get up to 3 activations instead of 1). The 10th Doctor is 5 cmc, but ability is a whopping 7 so reducing it to 5 would rarely allow you to activate it more than once a turn. It’s not very beneficial to reduce activation costs by 2 with 10th Doctor versus having 2 more mana. I just see a mana source being far more beneficial in this deck unless you are upgrading it with a lot of cards that benefit from reduced activation costs.
Most excited for this deck, but most places I look have this deck around $75. Managed to snag it for cheaper and I am SO hyped. This vid came out at the perfect time. Thank you!
I was lucky enough to get it at retail, but bloody hell did it jump up. I'm glad the Classic Doctors deck is the only other one that can use Everybody Lives because sod more than 2 for how expensive it is.
Another good thing to think about is extra combat effects, especially with the Sphinx of the Second Sun. Extra combats will let you attack multiple times to trigger the Tenth and Eleventh doctors multiple times; and most extra combat effects also add an additional main phase after the additional combat, so Sphinx of the Second sun will trigger again on each of those extra postcombat mains. Ability effects are also great here: trigger copying like Strionic Resonator, Lithoform Engine, Adric Mathematical Genius from the GWU deck; activated copying like Illusionist's Bracers, Battlemage's Bracers, and Rings of Brighthearth; activation cost reduction like Training Grounds, Heartstone, and Zirda the Dawnwalker (it can be in the 99; the Ikoria companions don't _have_ to be "your chosen companion") And a couple little guys I like are Chronozoa and Epochrasite. Chronozoa is a 3/3 flyer for 3U with Fading, but you _want_ to remove the counters because when it dies with no counters left, you create two token copies of it, which can quickly get out of hand since the copies also have the token copy effect. Epochrasite is a 1/1 for 2, but enters with three +1/+1 counters is you didn't cast it from your hand, and when it dies it exiles itself with three time counters and suspend.
Waters of Mars does a great job of showing why the Doctor needs the moderating influence of a companion and also sets up why it's a good thing The Doctor and Master are the last of the time lords.
One card I’m surprised they didn’t mention is “all will be one” there are enchantments that enter with 12 time counters. That 12 damage to an opponent for a 2 mana enchantment
I was playing this the other day and ran into an interesting interaction with "The Moment" and Idris. The vanishing of Idris was counteracted by The Moment ticking up a counter each turn. It makes it so that you can time travel a couple times, wipe the board, and start the countdown on your board-wipe a second time.
I think a good card to add would be Pia Nalaar, Consul of Revival Since all suspended cards are cast from exile and those Thopters have haste so it is a cheaper but less efficient Orvar but easier to access.
just got my Doctor Who precon, and i am excited to test it out! Personally, im gonna either Use Amy and the 11th or 10th and Amy! they look like the two most powerful! but also thinking about The War Doctor.
This is actually a very good precon, fresh out the box my bud used this deck against 3 other decks built from scratch and it was pulling its weight throughout the entire game thanks to the 10th doctor being able to cheat out powerful cards into suspend and Rose Tyler being such a dangerous partner that can quickly jump into a 12/12 turn 3
I would describe the doctor's companion mechanic like the "friends forever" one, you can pair any 2 cards, so long as they have friends forever on both, so for this, you can pair any card that has "Doctor's companion" with any creature that has the creature type "Time lord Doctor". the first upgrade I would make is "Training grounds", which says "activated abilities of creatures cost 2 less to activate". It was reprinted in Aftermath so it's only 5-6 $ on card kingdom. so your timey wimey ability only costs 5 mana now. the card I suggest you take out is temple of the false god, it is a bad card, don't play it, cutting lands is fine when you add a 0 mana mana rock, just ask any cEDH player what they cut for their mana crypt, the answer is always "land"
I love everything in these decks. I've just looked through Timey-Wimey and I'm so stoked to just get to play this deck. It's amazing! I look forward to making some of these changes.
Picked up this deck and instantly upgraded it (mostly the mana base, no I didn’t remove all the basics) and it never lost in my games last night. I also (and this is controversial) did not use Rose, but instead Clara Oswald and in using Clara I found an intriguing thing: The Tenth Doctor does NOT have to attack in order to trigger Allons-y! He just cares that you do attack. And with Clara, Allons-y! triggers twice. And if you leave up enough mana, you can then Timey-Wimey and your suspended spells get cast. I did this over and over again and it’s really amazing! Edit: And before anyone comes at me with “Clara was never a companion of the 10th Doctor, yes she was! She was a companion of Tenth, Eleventh and War Doctors in “The Day of the Doctor” so it works! Which The War Doctor is also in the deck, so it absolutely works!
In my two games, it ran remarkably well. The thing is that the deck is very interactive, able to handle a lot of things. And I think I attacked with the Tenth Doctor maybe one time before I realized Allons-y! triggers as long as you attack, so you don’t even have to send him in to trigger it. So many times I would send a Dinosaur token in to attack, and neither The Tenth Doctor or Clara would attack but they would both trigger. I will admit that thematically, Rose would be more ideal as the companion, but I found success with the two I used. It has a lot of interesting synergies, which I adore.
I think the text on Idris causes confusion, when she is amazing, but with etb artifacts not activated ability ones Imagine playing portal to phyrexia, then Idris, then blinking Idris....
I played a lot of suspend on time spiral casual on my teen years and the storm spells are absolutely essential to actually take people off guard. Even without going the ususal infinite storm stuff, they do work. Temporal Fissure is the usual suspect and fairly cheap to add.
55:03 Not to mention that there are a lot of cards with high mana value in here; the last thing I want to do is see what could be a win-con, then be forced to put it on the bottom of my deck because its mana value is higher than 3. Wilfred is the 2nd card I took out, after Atraxi Warden (very surprised it wasn't included in the removals section) that thing is way too predictable and isn't flexible enough; being able to hit only tapped creatures is a no thanks from me.
Idris, Soul of the TARDIS works well with: Rotating Fireplace and as a second version of The Moment, since it starts at 3 time counters due to vanishing. Other than that having it imprint RMS Titanic or TARDIS (fitting) would also accumulate some value.
Personal Adds: Clara Oswald (also swapped the Ninth Doctor for the Tenth Doctor as commander) - double triggering all your doctors is nuts also free slot as a doctor companion. Urza Lord Protector + Mightstone and Weakstone - No reason other than original Urza was obviously very doctor inspired, also Fusing them is always nice. Narset, Enlightned Exile - Good synch with non creatures this deck has also prowess to everything Zirda the Dawnmaker - Reducing the cost of abilities by 2 is awesome. Hurkyl, Master Wizard - EoT Trigger is nuts both early , mid and late game. River Song - River Song + Hurkyl lets you pick whatever you want to draw. Path to Exile - Path to Exile is always nice. future maybeboard: Dovin's Veto, Chaos Warp Drops Rotating Fireplace Addipose Offspring The Face of Boe Star Whale Judoon Enforcers Atraxi Warden Thriving Bluff
Idris lets you protect any artifact that you REALLY need the ability of. If you have an artifact thats a part of a combo or something, now your opponents need to use two removal spells to stop your combo rather than just one.
if you use idris on the tardis it essentially becomes a 5/5 copy of the tardis that doesnt need to be crewed and with all the time travel going on it basically never goes away. really strong and on flavor
On the Idris, Soul of the Tardis conundrum: If you have "the moment" on the field, which allows you to phase out your creatures for 2 and a tap. You can bounce out your creatures from trouble, cast her imprint "the moment" which exiles it and frees your creature from being phased out. If you have rose with x time counters and someone targets her, you got a get out of jail free card for her, and you dont have to wipe board by sacking "the moment" as its 2nd ability. Then the moment returns when idra is gone. Plussss with wilfred, with all the time travel abilities in deck and the 9th doctors ability you can get him up higher quite quickly and ramp haaard.
It may take some time... but I will be picking 2 of each deck up... 1 set to keep unchanged for Dr Who nights with friends... and the other set to make decks out of and piece out other cards to upgrade already made decks
fun fact: even though Amy Pond has both Doctor's Companion and Partner with Rory Williams, you CANNOT use all 3 in the command zone. Both Partner (the origin of Partner with) and Doctor's Companion read "you can have 2 commanders". You have to choose EITHER a Doctor or Rory to pair with Amy. Amy can still fetch Rory out of the 99, though. Bonus Fun Fact: Idris is really good with another card in the deck: The Moment. Moment has a triggered ability to put a time counter on it at the beginning of your upkeep, and phases out creatures until it leaves the battlefield. so imprinted onto Idris, you can phase out creatures almost permanently.
I played this precon unmodified for the first time today. I ended up suspending Adipose Offspring with The Tenth Doctor and agree with your recommendation to cut it, as it's pretty terrible if you can't cast it for its emerge cost. Another card that I found to be underwhelming for the same reason is Everything Comes to Dust, a board wipe that's asymmetrical if you convoke it but not if you suspend it. I'd recommend cutting that and keeping The Day of the Doctor, which I found to be surprisingly good in the deck. 5 mana is a decent rate to draw 3 cards and get an optional board wipe. While the effects are delayed, this is a deck that's built around delayed effects so it fits into the game plan pretty organically. And once you cut the less synergistic legendaries as recommended in the video, it's pretty much guaranteed to get you something useful.
I heavily considered doing 11 and Amy in part for the reason you also get Rory, but I realized that the combo is essentially just slow ramp, though 11’s unblockable ability is great and versatile. Rose is good, but I think a better option for 10 will be Tegan Jovanka from the blast from the past precon. Gonna be giving it a try. Decided to also pick up 1st, 2nd, 8th, and 12th doctors for the deck. Another must have add is Jhoira’s timebug. Another good combo can be war Doctor + K9. Jeskai has a lot of cards that exile and K9 will make it easy for war to use his effect
Played this deck for the first time yesterday and got the Tenth Doctor out on turn 4 and got to use Timey-Wimey on turn 5. That game I also got to one shot an opponent with a 25/25 unblockable Rose Tyler for lethal commander damage!
You 100% need a Training Grounds. It’s an auto-include for any commander with an activated ability requiring mana And it’s cheaper than ever right now from the CMM reprint Vexilus Praetor is a cool idea for any of the Doctor decks, or some of the backgrounds Since you always have two commanders, those cards targeting commanders get double the value
Passionate Archaeologist is great for a two-commander deck, with the suspend cards casting from exile. Delayed Blast Fireball would also be good for a way to hold a board under threat/clear the way.
I actually preferred to play the deck using the eleventh doctor and amy pond. Don't underestimate the suspend acceleration of Amy with the innate evasion of Matt Smith. And psychic paper is my new favorite evasion.... Also, you forgot about the War Doctor!
Yeah I feel like you can go for two directions with this deck. Either a few really strong cards with ten. Or go for something with wilfrid and just generally small creatures and getting a ton of them suspended. So you just overwhelm people.
Chronozoa is a sudggestion for a card to have. It has vanishing 3, but it duplicates into tokens of itself when it vanishes. timey wimey can accelerate their replication. and more cards Rose can add time counters to herself from
Another cute thing with Scroll Rack is you can put a bunch of lands on top of the card you want to hit with Tenth Doctor, and tuck them down to the bottom to have more fuel for the later game, super helps eliminate flooding and prevent the Brainstorm issue.
@@nharviala i was a bit surprised by it as well. I played the deck once, but I actually ended up with a problem that I wasn't drawing any lands because of it
While it makes no sense thematically, Keeper of Secrets from the Warhammer precon would be a great wincon, deals damage equal to mana value of each spell you cast from anywhere other than your hand. And it’s a 6/4 first strike haste
maybe the best token ever? I don't know I've learned MAgic this week... for Doctor Who ! Fun fact : one of the TOKENS of this set has THE DOCTOR on it.... the creature token with the Ruth human version of the Renegade Doctor (Jo Martin) , i a 1/1 creature token version of the Doctor using his chameleon arch to become a normal human. One heart, no regeneration power, natural human biology. And she is a TOKEN in her own set !!!! AMAZING!
you should have the normalized bang for buck index, it is the total reprint value divided by the multiplication of the price of the deck by the number of reprints. this should tell you how much, on average, each reprint brings to the deck
I've seen 2 gameplay of this deck on UA-cam: one where it worked and was a foreboding threat and was taken out and the other where it was just frustrating.
Number one card I would suggest adding is fury charm, three options for 2 mana at instant speed. Destroy an artifact never bad, a creature gets +1/+1 and trample could just kill someone with rose, and the last mode just helps you play your big suspend cards For breaking Idris I think the key is panharmonicon type effects, but yeah that's not great in this deck
My sell for Idris is using her as the commander to Mechtitan Core reusable. Cast the core, hide it under her, activate her to make the Mechtitan. Usually this would exile the core forever, but this way it brings it back, so that you can make another Mechtitan. Absolutely not a powerful thing to do, but I just like the Mechtitan.
I just bought this deck and I'm going to play it with my group tomorrow. I'm also interested to see how it plays with Amy Pond and The Eleventh Doctor at the helm.
Was playing the unmodified deck with my local group. War doctor had lightning grieves. I crewed the TARDIS, attacked with it. Post combat I cast sol ring. Went through the whole deck and put 70+ counters on the war doctor. He became an instant threat.
i think design wise maybe the idea is you make Idris The Tardis so you get the Tardis attack trigger when she attacks instead of having to crew the tardis (just my guess)
I wouldn't mind having Doctor Who alternate art of the suggested addition cards made for the deck so it stays on theme. I could see the Rings of Akhaten providing good art for Rousing Refrain for example.
Just finished listening to this episode on my podcast app. Was really excited about Murph’s episode recommendation since I was looking for one… but kinda bummed when he followed up by spoiling the whole dang episode right after. Guess I don’t need to go watch it now? Thanks for that
You mentioned that no one is going to pay the Emerge cost for Adipose Offspring. That makes me think that you miss read the text. You get to minus the mana cost of the sacrificed creature from the Emerge cost. I'm keeping the little bloke in my deck.
Idris is definitely a weird one. Maybe exile One Ring with it to reset your burden counters? If it was just activated abilities not triggered ones, would be much better tbh
Another good payoff, that is a little on the pricey side is Passionate Archaeologist. Given that this is a partner deck you can deal damage equal to twice the mana value of each thing you cast from suspend to an opponent. Can easily kill someone the turn it comes out.
Surprised that Fury Charm isn't on the list. Also, it may be beyond budget but Ragavan is a good quick attacker that'll make you mana in the form os treasures.
About the Idris, I agree that it doensn't seem to have a great use in the deck, the only I could slithly see, is saving an artifact if you're trying to blow everything with "The Moment"
Suspended spells have their normal mana value when cast with suspend, so Ovika does work with this deck. You're probably thinking of cards like Sol Talisman or Crashing Footfalls which dont have a normal mana cost so their mana value is zero.
So if I see it right, 11th doctor after that I can have Amy and once amy goes from commander zone to the play I can search for Rory, shuffle and have 3rd commander, wicked :)
What do you think of the “Timey-Wimey” precon? Any cards we missed? Any cards we suggested to take out or add that you disagree with?

Idris lets you protect any artifact that you REALLY need the ability of. If you have an artifact thats a part of a combo or something, now your opponents need to use two removal spells to stop your combo rather than just one.
Use Idris on your wedding ring. You will be the only one that profits from this wedding 🎉
if you use idris on the tardis it essentially becomes a 5/5 copy of the tardis that doesnt need to be crewed and with all the time travel going on it basically never goes away. really strong and on flavor
@@victorhatt4885 sure, but it doesnt have flying, could be relevant tho
Some of my favorite Dr's are in this deck, but I like the way the blast from the past deck plays more
On the Idris, Soul of the Tardis conundrum:
If you have "the moment" on the field, which allows you to phase out your creatures for 2 and a tap.
I have an old Jhoira deck so more time counter cards are very welcome
The adipose is a very specific use : to counter a darksteel mutation or lignify that blocked your commander
Idris + Panharmonicon + Staff of Domination + Sol Ring = a makeshift TARDIS (from her episode) and infinite card draw
Murph's like "Hey, I recommend watching this episode, let me spoil almost the entire ending of it for you guys" 😂
It may take some time... but I will be picking 2 of each deck up... 1 set to keep unchanged for Dr Who nights with friends... and the other set to make decks out of and piece out other cards to upgrade already made decks
Im mostly excited for the upgrade of the villain deck it seemed to have the most potential i think
I upgraded the Masters of Evil pre-con and played it on Tuesday. It has some crazy, fun, scary potential. Exterminate!!!
31:23 I did just that, only because before combat my Dinos in a Spacehip was exiled. I missed the alpha strike but I got a LOT of suspended value.
Idris has some interesting and nasty uses. Interesting: Commander damage with vehicle attack triggers. Nasty: Mindslaver, Portal to Phyrexia, etc...
fun fact: even though Amy Pond has both Doctor's Companion and Partner with Rory Williams, you CANNOT use all 3 in the command zone.
Got me an my husband to watch through Who again! And so I also had to support the LGS and pick up the this box! Excited to experiment with this one!
I like putting Clara Oswald in the deck she’s really good.
Also Eighth doctor allows that graveyard recursion.
No Jhoira's Time Bug? That is the little hero that could, especially with an artifact untapper (Sonic Screwdriver anyone?) 😊
I love how these decks are more premium then the commander master decks, and they're cheaper. Im for sure picking up one of the doctor who decks
thassa god of the sea is great in this deck, indestructible, scry before draw step, evasion on demand, and cheap as well
You 100% need a Training Grounds. It’s an auto-include for any commander with an activated ability requiring mana
And it’s cheaper than ever right now from the CMM reprint
Vexilus Praetor is a cool idea for any of the Doctor decks, or some of the backgrounds
Since you always have two commanders, those cards targeting commanders get double the value
How would you get the lands to the bottom of the library? Lands exiled with the tenth doctor remains exiled
@@nielsostman I misread. Thought he did a cascade thing. Still, gets rid of flooded lands.
@@nharviala i was a bit surprised by it as well. I played the deck once, but I actually ended up with a problem that I wasn't drawing any lands because of it
7:45
No, there's another White companion option which is very powerful: Clara Oswald
She can be any color for Doctors
Clara Oswald is not in this deck, she is in the Paradox Power precon.
While it makes no sense thematically, Keeper of Secrets from the Warhammer precon would be a great wincon, deals damage equal to mana value of each spell you cast from anywhere other than your hand. And it’s a 6/4 first strike haste
Also nice for the Paradox Powers deck, I'd assume.
I just got into mtg and got this deck as a gift. The price of rousing refrain seems to have gone through the roof since this video
Been waiting for this one this is my favorite of the 4 thus far
maybe the best token ever?
Got all the decks, ripped all the doctors and sagas out and put them in a Tom Bombadil deck. I call it ‘Tom watches Who’.
Janky or does it actually work?
Number one card I would suggest adding is fury charm, three options for 2 mana at instant speed. Destroy an artifact never bad, a creature gets +1/+1 and trample could just kill someone with rose, and the last mode just helps you play your big suspend cards
For breaking Idris I think the key is panharmonicon type effects, but yeah that's not great in this deck
What if you copy idris's imprint ability? Sure idris get the activated abilities of two artifacts at the same time?
pair it with clara, make it temur and fuse it with the other two decks
what's the mark for the upgraded deck according on your scale 1-10? You mentioned the scale in one of your last videos
Idris, soul of the tardis and Mindslaver could be a hilarious way to go
I just bought this deck and I'm going to play it with my group tomorrow. I'm also interested to see how it plays with Amy Pond and The Eleventh Doctor at the helm.
Strionic resonator could be good add. 2 and tap get a second dr. trigger so a second suspend seems pretty good.
No mention of Keeper of Secrets? That seems like a huge standout upgrade for this deck.
War doctor seems to be a fun win con
"Donna noble has been saved" YOU DID NOT JUST DO THAT 😂😂
Wondering how an Izzet deck of just 10 and Donna would work. My wife's fav doctor/companion combo in the show
I just realized rousing refrain is not in the deck. Why?!
Edit: Oh infinite mana. Dang it
I believe the reason Idris is in the precon so you don't have to crew the TARDIS its a really flavorful imprint. But yeah I agree Function>Flavor.
Just finished listening to this episode on my podcast app. Was really excited about Murph’s episode recommendation since I was looking for one… but kinda bummed when he followed up by spoiling the whole dang episode right after. Guess I don’t need to go watch it now? Thanks for that
Wooo Rousing Refrain is over $12.50 now.
Does Idris, Soul of the TARDIS work with the token made from Mishra, Eminent One?
Just dropped 80$ on this deck lol the price is only climbing so had to grab it now so hype
Surprised they didn't suggest the red mythic background or any other effect that deals damage when playing stuff from exile
What do y'all think about the instant called Suspend? It exiles a creature and puts 2 time counters on it. Only 1U to cast.
You mentioned that no one is going to pay the Emerge cost for Adipose Offspring. That makes me think that you miss read the text. You get to minus the mana cost of the sacrificed creature from the Emerge cost. I'm keeping the little bloke in my deck.
This deck is $65 by me. It’s going for as much as $130 online
Same, found it at target for $65 (minus 5% with the red card)
Does anyone have a list off all of the cards that need to be cut and added?
Idris is definitely a weird one.
Maybe exile One Ring with it to reset your burden counters?
If it was just activated abilities not triggered ones, would be much better tbh
The 5 min intro is getting crazy
Yeah, but at least it's marked where you can skip to. They gotta pay the bills
How hard is it to scrub past it?
What about kykar instead or along with ovika? And jeskai ascendency of course.
I'll personally partner Tenth Doc with Clara Oswald or Susan Foreman. i can't wait to timey wimey into Apex Devastator
Cant wait to see the masters of evil upgrade
Im so happy that I decided to grab this deck randomly at walmart
Wouldn’t the ovika Goliath not be able to play off of suspend spells since suspend spells come in with a mana cost of zero??
Suspended spells have their normal mana value when cast with suspend, so Ovika does work with this deck. You're probably thinking of cards like Sol Talisman or Crashing Footfalls which dont have a normal mana cost so their mana value is zero.
Not a fan of doctor who but I am a fan of the mechanics in this set
Feels awkward to remove flavorful cards. I would probably try combining a few things from the other two Doctor decks.
So if I see it right, 11th doctor after that I can have Amy and once amy goes from commander zone to the play I can search for Rory, shuffle and have 3rd commander, wicked :)
