      Oh yay! And it’s so fun to watch them devour it. Pretend the pumpkin is a stegosaurus or something, and your flock is really a pack of raptors... 🐓🦖🦕🦖🦕

    Hello Real Simple Mama, thanks for sharing your method. I made wheat sprouts for my chicken and their productivity is high. Let's connect and learn from each other.

    I’m just wondering what your plan is in case shortages make it impossible to buy chicken feed commercially?

    • @realsimplemama
      @realsimplemama  2 роки тому

      Hi! No plan at this point. Locals and I all stock up so we’d help each other for sure but beyond that I don’t have an answer. ✌🏼❤️🐓

    Question, is there a poultry feeder you have found that you like?

    • @realsimplemama
      @realsimplemama  4 роки тому

      Honestly the normal chicken feeder that’s cylindrical is fine! For me it’s a matter of keeping it up off the ground so the feathered children can’t make a mess 😇 so I hang mine or prop it up on stones

    Question for you, so I won't keep them soaking in water?

    • @realsimplemama
      @realsimplemama  2 роки тому +1

      Right! You do a good rinse so that they’re wet and you get off any stagnant bacteria, and keep them covered so that they make their own condensation.

      You’re so welcome! I always respond within 8 hours or so but you caught me right when I was editing videos 😎 I am still really new to sprouts, I have only ever done lentils and sunflower seeds mostly for my chickens. But as it starts to cool down here in South Texas I really want to do a lot more, for the flock and for me! Let me know how it goes! ✌🏼❤️🐓

    Do you plan on washing them twice a day for the whole week? Will that damage the sprouts?

    • @realsimplemama
      @realsimplemama  4 роки тому

      Yep that’s the plan! And I need to do it carefully (I’m also curious as to how that will go) but I’m hoping they’ll be intact.

      Oh no I’m sorry! In a sunny spot? Covered with some aeration? Clean filtered water? If they don’t sprout I’d dispose of them since you can’t be sure if they’ve started to mold.

    • @wayneaustin8768
      @wayneaustin8768 10 місяців тому

      Give the seeds about 12 hours in water, must use a capful of bleach to keep it from molding. I use quart sized mason jars with stainless steel screen lids. then rinse the seeds by draining the mason jars twice per day, within 4 = 5 days you'll have a ton of sprouts. I use recleaned wheat seed, it costs 22.00 for 50 pounds, one bag last months!@@realsimplemama

    Just a question though....what prevents toxins forming, I love sprouts but even store bought sprouts could be dangerous...

    • @realsimplemama
      @realsimplemama  Рік тому +1

      Hi! We eliminate that as much as possible by using filtered water, moving everything around by stirring, draining excess liquid, etc. But certainly do more research on your own too. ✌🏻❤️🐓

    Why no tap water if thats what they drink?

    • @realsimplemama
      @realsimplemama  2 роки тому

      Hi! You’re right, tap water is fine for the chickens. I recommend it for the quality of the sprouts themselves. You could certainly try with tap and see how they come out! ✌🏼❤️🐓

    • @matthewshannongreen1900
      @matthewshannongreen1900 2 роки тому

      It’s bc the chlorine in the tap water will keep the sprouts from sprouting or at least that’s what I have heard.
