What does the P0171 code mean?
A Code P0171 or system too lean bank 1 means either too much oxygen or too little fuel in the exhaust. This is a ‘lean’ condition or a ‘low fuel trim’ code.
The P0171 OBD-II code indicates that the fuel system on the first bank of the engine is weak or that a vacuum leak exists near this side of the engine. A lean state happens when the engine receives either too little or too much fuel.
    What causes a P0171 code?
Some possible causes of a P0171 engine code are:
    Vacuum leak
    Weak fuel pump
    Broken fuel pressure regulator
    Blocked fuel filter
    Faulty powertrain control module
    Defective injectors
    Faulty oxygen sensors
    Clogged catalytic converter
Problems with the mass airflow sensor

I have the same car but i experience rough idle from the moment car is on. I think my issue is the pcv valve stuck open. Im losing a lot of oil too. My tmobile sync up picked up the p0171 one day my car stalled. Thats how i know. It stalled while being idle for 10-20 minutes

You definitely have a huge vacuum leak if the car stalled. Please get some professional help

For anyone with this code keep in mind it can be the MAF, fuel filter or pressure regulator also.
    - Unplug the MAF with the vehicle running, if it dies the sensor is good.
    - you will need to move on to fuel pressure reading. You can rent/loaner a fuel psi tester kit at most auto parts stores.
With the vehicle running the fuel psi should be above 44psi. If not change the fuel filter, pressure regulator (in fuel pump assembly and the pump strainer.

If your corolla has DRL with the high beam, the LED lights will flickers. You will have to buy anti-flicker canbus adapter.

Cracks in tubes will cause air to enter the vacuum lines especially when the tubes are hot.
