Looks like George Cohen kept Best under control 1st half and then Best switched wings 2nd half. Cohen would get my vote for England's best ever right back. Well, it's either him or Gary Neville so give it to Cohen

Tavy@ i have still to see best have a good game never mind a great one before 1966. He just seemend very unsure, his passing then was the worse i had seen. And he couldnt create anything. He looks between 1963 to 66 as if he depended on charlton and law and so many other great players then, thats why he passesd it so quick, or crossesd it once he got to the bye line strait away and rarely cut inside by selling a dummy. And he was 18 here, then 19, tbh you would think a player with best's ability would be alot better at 17, 18 and 19, but i have heard so many great players and average players say when theres 50 to 60 thousand fans looking at you when your just 18 it can be very very intimidating and its so loud you cant hear yourself think or even hear your own players trying to shout you a message. Plus its alot harder than what your used to. Like the reserves. But george just went strait into the first team from the youth team, he never had 4 to 6 months in the reservers at least. Wich would have helped him here i believe and so many other bad games he had before 1966. Here you can see hes finding it alot harder its so obvious, harder as in tackles and trying to find or make space and running into nowhere with the ball wich is quickly shut down compared to playing with the youth team. I dont even know if he played with the juniors. Or amatures. A think it was alot different then. You had so many teams like the amatures then the A and B teams then the youth team then junior team then the reservers team. Best just played for the youth team. If george didnt get better in the next year a dont believe he would have lasted any longer. So sir matt watched very closely at where he was going wrong and we see it here at least 3 times, george was struggling to beat alot if not most full backs then george lost the ball so easily, yes he was beating some of them but only the average ones and george and sir matt knew he was better than that. So sir matt took george to one side and said "george when your taking on a full back your running at full speed and there catching you becouse they only have to turn and run at full speed and wee shoulder tackle thats all it takes to win the ball becouse your speed makes you go down even faster with just a slight nudge shoulder to shoulder and there well away. So heres what to do when you get the ball and the full back comes to you and you want to go past him you start your run at half your speed becouse he has to watch the ball more than you and he doesnt know what your about to do next he thinks thats it a will make my tackle and when your at half speed you will see or sense the timing when the full back is going to challenge you and thats when you go up a gear at full speed and he wont catch you then george. He will either have made a challenge and missesd you or was about to but you sped away from him too quickly, even if hes still on his feet. becouse those two or 3 seconds are the difference between you just speeding away from him and him thinking about to tackle you then your not there, and he would have already adjusted his body so he can make the tackle and when you go faster much faster then you flat foot them at the same time as there thinkings changend as well becouse he believes he is going to take that ball of you easy as ever" and george never looked back. George said it was probably the best advice the boss ever gave me, becouse i was too used to just beating players easily, by pure speed becouse i had never played against a a player that was faster than me over 20 yards. or i would beat them some other way like cutting inside and putting them on there weaker foot. But when i played in the first team at just age 17 i knew strait away it was harder and you played against alot of full backs who had alot of great skill as in beating players in there own box just with pure skill and i had to smile at them, a mean how could i not becouse i played with forwards who couldnt even do that when i was age 13 and 14 and 15. I knew i was in the real leauge with the big boys even after 10 minutes with 50 thousand fans all shouting at who knows? And i couldnt hear myself think and denis law is saying something to me from 16 yards away, well shouting it really. What it was i couldnt make it all out except "george see when....middle thats when to...ok george your....well" i put my arm up as players do to say i got the message. And denis put his arm up to say ok. But its brilliant to watch these games in the 1960s. Thanks for the upload. Great stuff, keep them coming please.

I think George Best became an even better player by the late 60s . He had improved his ball control , timing and spatial awareness as he got older .
