After reading his book ''Blessed'' which he wrote before his death, i've gained a newfound appreciation for him He spoke openly about his drinking addiction and how hard it was for him to deal with fame. 1968 was as good as it got, unfortunately, but what a fantastic player before everything fell apart. Tavy@ the strange imo was i thought bests passing was worse than his tackling, dribbling, etc...i found that strange since passing the ball is surely 1 thing best would have masterd? A mean in most of these 1960s games he gives the ball away far too easy and am not talking a 40 yard pass, am talking 20 yards and he couldnt even reach hes man with it. Or maybe he was so easy to read. But it would either be cut out becouse he didnt hit it hard enough or he would just pass it strait to the other team? I have just noticed that recently when i watch most of hes 1960s games! And was really suprised to see that!
tavy@ i thought best was really average until 1967 in most matches i have saw him play in before 1967 his passing was bad and the defenders always got the better of him. I had no idea until utube came out. He was very easy to read you can see it in this game here and he ended up passing the ball every time he got it. So would he last in todays fast game?? Mmm! i really was shocked to see best so bad before he was age 20, 21
He could do unbelievable stuff but don’t get me wrong but he had enough chances to get it right, I’ve watched tons of footage and he gives the ball away tons ! Your just being honest with your appraisal thought I was the only one who had doubts. I honestly think Busby allowed him to develop however he d struggle not physically but tactically today in my opinion managers haven’t the time for his eccentricities which in a way is a shame!!
