- How can we implement new, renewable energy processes and move beyond sustainable wastewater facilities? Are there new sources of energy hidden in our wastewater treatment processes? In this fascinating talk, high school student Nurul MohdReza delves into her experiment with single-celled microbial fuel cells to generate extra electricity for the treatment plants.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
Great researched
It is a great thought . I wish em best of luck. We are experiencing a major change in the world with this experiment and theory . God bless this woman
Well the commercialisation of MFC is not that easy. They are several obstacles that needs to be overcome. The cost of electrodes, it's biocompatability, conductivity and low resistivity are important factors to be considered. The electron acceptors needs to easly and economically available and their recycling. The concentration and types of wastewater greatly affects MFC performance. The selection of right type of bacteria because not all types of bacteria produces electricity. Only exoelectrogenic bacteria are able to transfer eletrons to anode. So there is lots of research needed before the commercial use of MFC.
are you working of mfc ?
+DudeMan i can say about bacteria, as i know they found 2 species that can be used, Shewanella oneidensis and Geobacter sulfurreducens. In general domestic wastewater have the same composition and concentration, u can establish an average and sometimes, if its necessary, make some correction with chemicals. It's a recent technology, must improve to set in large scale, but it's promising!!
DudeMan not to mention the limitations of the current generated. Scaling up models has been shown to create a variety of issues in regards to electrode shape, thickness, material, and spacing. A larger anode will not necessarily mean greater power production. Bruce Logan and Hong Liu have done great work and reviewed these devices for years and I’d encourage anyone interested to read up on their work.
Anyone interested in microbial fuel cells may also find the research of Bruce Logan interesting
He is the bloke who started it.
He is the bloke who started it.
Bruce Logan is not "the bloke who started it." The technology is over 100 years old. royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/abs/10.1098/rspb.1911.0073
Love this project! However, have you considered that the use of these electron acceptors could damage the environment?
grt work...god blessu
Working with MFCs for last three years I cant ell we will get there, when wastewater plants will be power plants.
POR QUÉ?
@@meyersantiagovasquez228 they work
Impressive!
Can you make more videos about this topic. Because I'm going to make a study about it.
It is important because everybody does it and is in fact, if pop can be converted to energy, then people are energy factories! By our very existence! In yet ANOTHER way!!!!
You're amazing keep working
she's better than in MFC, and she's only high school student..
my guy at 5:50 is ded asleep in the middle of the screen
A poop battery! That, is, a, fucking, MAZING! brilliant and genius. The future.
Mam I am pursuing my masters in technology in civil engineering and I want to choose mfc for thesis project can you please help me .
A new age hippie, next gen for sire
