One thing you forgot to mention about the wastelands biome that is kind of important to note is the mini horde night that happens every night. Every night zombie dogs, bears, and basically all kinds of higher health zombies (wights and cops) spawn in. Now this is important for many reasons. First being that you don't want to be caught dead in the wastelands at night looting POI's. Second it is a great place to get zombie meat to make farm plots and for making recipes. And lastly, the experience gain for killing the wasteland horde especially if you get bonus experience for killing zombies at night and if you use the appropriate glasses and learnin elixir. The blood moon horde does override the wasteland horde on those particular nights but for those bravo enough, armed to the teeth, and in a defensible position, it is fun.
My wife and I were playing through the Shamway Factory. We were new to the game and didn't know any tips or tricks. Night fell as we were struggling across an internal area of pipes. That's fine, we can take on a couple of faster zombies when we get to a new room. And then the horde music started, and outside some world placed landmines started exploding. And then zombies started pouring into the building. We had no idea mini hordes existed in the wasteland, or even that we were in the wasteland. The Shamway Factory sits right on the border to the burnt biome. We got smashed. And the rest of the night, crafting clubs inside a broken house and trying to fend off dogs was exhilarating. One of my favourite moments of the whole game.
@@Elheru42 The outside tower is very easily converted into one of the best starter bases in the game in Navezgane. Just bust down the ramps leading into it on the sides and a ladder up to the unlocked hatch at the top. Sweet location.
I always build my horde base in the wastelands city because of the (mostly) empty lots in town that are already flat. You can build whatever you like and have easy access to water. My crafting bases are usually in either the forest or desert.
You didn't mention that the winter biome has a lot of big cats and bears which makes it hard to survive for a beginner and a great source of meat as you progress.
I still remember my first game that lasted a decent length I finally unlocked the quest to go meet the second (maybe third) trader, and was sent to the snow biome. I got there early because I misjudged the time till the place opened and while I was waiting I had to kill two bears and a wolf who just kept showing up there angry as can be. I also must have motored past a half dozen freaking cats on the way there too. Snow biome is scary. I mean sure it was nice having so much meat that I would never run out again and enough bone to create an amount of glue so deep you could drown in it, but man, for a frozen hellscape its surprisingly abundant in large game animals. On the other hand, it has the high school. God I love that school for fetch/clear quests. That loot pile at the end is just tasty. Plus I love the rampant zombie slaughter.
