    Thanks for that. I'm really new to drones but am totally taken back by how they've progressed over the years and am deciding to invest. Thanks for helping out.

    not what i think of as long range, but it's a hard thing to do with a multirotor. good range for sure. and very nice flying. will be watching for future flights with this machine. thanks alishanmao!

    You are absolutley right about that. But the thing you are talking about is military/survailance use, in which case drones have advantage.
    I thought we were talking about, mainly purpose of fun FPV/aerial photography ;-)

    This isn't range! This is flight time. Long range would mean to be able to travel 5 kilometers in one line and still be in contact with the unit.

    Do these types of drones have the ability to 'shuffle' left and right, like strafe? I mostly see them moving just forward, backward and changing direction when used by remote control

    Think of a situation where you need to take pictures for orthomosaic maps. With this quad, if it really flies for 20 minutes, you could easily perform a lawn mower style flight path thats 5kms long. Not necessarily 5KMs away. Still useful

    Cool! I am a teen who is looking to get into quadcopters. Obviously I do not have a large budget and will have to do a lot of diy. Have you tested the serial data link on mega pirate using joystick control? I do not have the money to spend on a regular radio but I do have a joystick that might work. also you point out in one of the other comments that you can "zoom" in with your fpv camera. Is that possible with a gopro? I follow all your videos and they are the most informative ones out there:)

    I wonder if a solor panel can be attached to them, then land it. Then when I charges, start back flying again. Like land it in a place it cant be taken, set and wait for it to charge. That way you don't have to bring it home to keep using. Yes I get that the solor panel would take a long time to charge the batterie. And if you was using a go pro to record, you would have to get it back before the power and time runs out. Because I use the go pro. The video will be lost if it go past stop time.

    hi Ali, I fly my X650 regularly between 1.5 - 2km's out, with total distance covered per flight around 4 - 5km's. i'm using the same FPV combo set up on my X650 as I got off you for my skywalker. 800mw 1.3ghz with duck antenna on the video Tx and patch antenna on the video Rx, and I get solid video feed the whole time. video of flights are posted on my channel.

  • @konturger
    @konturger 11 років тому

    Honestly, I don´t want to bug you, but all you tested is 20+ mins flighttime. Because, flying over 5km required normally a 2.4ghz booster, a high altitude to keep 5.8ghz signal in sight (with normalley at least 600mw). And the most dangerous factor is WIND in higher altitudes, which leads to uncalculateable heavy duty to motors and currents).
    So for my understanding your copter is not at all 5km+ FPV approoved. Please correct me, if I am wrong.

    My quad on 2212 980kv motors, 10" plastic props, GoPro + FPV camera and equipment, 2x 3K mah batt's, AUW 1190g with one batt and does about 28-30min flight with 6K batt. And the whole thing cost $408 without the GoPro and including batteries. It's also a small 330mm motor span. So how is your product different such that it can't break the 25min mark? Looks like you have larger motors and way nicer props so you should be able to load up more batteries easily.

    • @GeorgeBonez
      @GeorgeBonez 10 років тому

      YIKES! What flight control board are you using on a $408 quad? I understand your point about flight time BUT,,,,
      Do you have Atti hold? GPS? RTL? Waypoints? etc? If so " I want me some of what you got"! And I want it NOW! lol

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab 10 років тому

      I'm using a KK2.1.5 just because I happened to have one around. For $15 more I would have gotten an arduino based board and gotten all that. Basically this is an all in one package is not providing nearly enough performance for the money.

      Which frame are you using?1190gr with 2x3A batteries and a Go pro?

    • @GeorgeBonez
      @GeorgeBonez 10 років тому

      ***** Im not sure if you are talking to Kabab or me but ,,,I am using a ATG reptile 700mm folding frame (that looks just like this frame in this vid) w/ (2) 3s 4.0 batts. Looking to move up to 4s batts ASAP tho. :) I am running 2814 700kv Tarot motors and they are awsome accept for one. It is so out of balance that it shakes my NAZA Mv2 MC so bad that its causing fly-a-way conditions. Once I get this motor replaced I think that I will be back in business hopefully. BTW the motor cannot be balanced as I have tried every trick in the book. It was so bad that I took it a part thinking that it might have sucked up a piece of metal in its magnets but I couldnt find a thing. :(
      I know that many of you guys maybe flying much bigger quads but a 700 is a GIANT to me as I am use to a little 450 FW. `
      I have noticed that one fault of this frame is its lack of rigidity and this causes tons of vibration to travel thru the booms (arms)

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab 10 років тому

      GeorgeBonez I was using the KK2 but have moved to the Naze32 full feature board which has all those functions (GPS, pos hold, heading hold, alt hold, way point, RTH...) and then some.

    i was looking for a long range dron with FPV and my first thought was "wifi" i can install a pair of nanostation wifi anntenas on my home and use my pc to control the dron, nanostations or airgrid wifi anntenas have like 20km of range, and using wifi to control and watch the FPV camera feed and telemetry/gps seems more logical than using a bunch of different signals for every function with their limitations like short range and most likely low bandwitch for FPV

  • @proud63
    @proud63 11 років тому

    Ali,
    why are you using hi speed motors with over 900 kV with small props, but do not use low kV (about 400) motors with bigger props, which are much more effective and allows your copter to make really LONG-range and LONG-time flights?

    have a look for 2,4Ghz/wlan/wifi bosster... (eg. amazon). usually you will need to mount a sma plug onto your remote for that... But you also will tipically need a HAM radio licence to modify remotes and RF systems... otherwise good luck if they bust you ;-)

    I'm looking for the most effective GPS unit to use in the mountains. The problem is that down in the valley much of the sky is blocked by the mountains. It would be nice to have something that works easily and a bonus if it has the same mounting holes with the Mini APM FC. But the most important is to find a GPS that can work as well as possible in non ideal conditions (when many satellites are hidden behind the mountains) anyone got any suggestions? Performance must come first, then compatibility with a Mini APM then size is a less important issue but still kinda important.

    If you want long range FPV use glider.
    Multirotors are for precision photography and not long range scavenger hunt...
