Walled Garden HIGHLY illegal, esp. when it comes to silly proprietary connectors, and prevent you from paying with YOUR bank, and charging people more to buy/use e-books on Amazon and such.
Plus the DMA in Europe
So you didn't noticed they already started to change their products to USB-C before the regulation.. iPad and Macbook already was USB-C, do you think they will stop at half way..? They just gived enough time for accessory makers (because iPhone have way more accessory like iPad and Macbooks..) to prepare to the change.. a sudden decision can bankrupt thousands of company.. like they have 10000 lighting Thermal camera in stock, what they will never sell after the change.. or do you think people will buy a $300 thermal camera when they know they will change their phone soon, and it will be unusable, so they need to buy one more.. because thermal camera became unusable with adapter.. and that is just one example.. so they did it on the right way, gived enough time for the manufacturers to empty their warehouses (on that way the things will become to e-waste at least a few years later, and nobody will bankrupt..)
Across the pond, we have no idea what the green and blue text bubbles mean, we just use WhatsApp on iphones and androids.

That's just unfair, apple would never engage in any anticompetitive or anti consumer behaviour. Just ask their lawyers!
Besides iPhone will break if they force them to work with other devices 🤷♀️
It's just the way it is
apple fought for many years against right to repair for a reason corporate greed
I think right to repair is where tthey deserve to be sued for, not this garbage. I for one, use apple devices in part for the strong security a closed ecosystem provides. The scary thing will be that if there's a pathway to download an app without the app store, then it's possible you open a message or click a website and malware is downloaded without you even knowing. Right now, there's physically no code path for this to happen. Create the path in code, and someone somewhere will find a way to exploit it. Apple devices will be way less secure.
@@heyaisdabomb Yeah the right to repair thing is a tricky one. Apple ended up choosing its current path for 2 reasons.
First was security. Obviously it wouldn't do to have someone sabotage your fingerprint or faceID scanner to get instant access to your phone. So they started by securing everything from the secure enclave to the fingerprint scanner and serializing all the components so that if even the wires between them were swapped out that functionality would brick. Since their phones are used by people of all walks of life including people with government secrets this is kind of a reasonable consideration IMHO.
Second was that a multi billion dollar industry started to pop up where people would buy iPhones, harvest parts out of them, break the phone and then return it under warranty. The stolen parts would then be used to fix other phones to be sold or just outright sold to other repair shops. Apple had an absolute fortune stolen from them by these people and wanted to protect themselves against it. Again, kind of a reasonable response in my opinion.
Honestly it does suck. But I'm more mad at people who perform espionage and steal endless amounts of money from Apple by harvesting parts out for ruining everything. In a perfect world none of this would be necessary and we'd have right to repair as a result but it's kind of like seeing a store close down after being repeatedly robbed in a high crime area. Yeah it sucks for the community that it's gone but are you going to be mad at the company or at the criminals who drove them to close up shop?
@@heyaisdabombI agree. The repair issue is an entirely different thing. But to force Apple to open up its App Store to whoever is crazy. There is a reason Apple products have the least amount of Malware and virus issues. They keep downloadable software very strict/limited. This could lead to all kinds of security risks.
@@heyaisdabomb disagree, I should be able to install what i wish on a device ive paid for. its already possible to download apps outside of the appstore WITHOUT jailbreaking or exploiting the device. (look into developer mode and sideloading; altstore and sideloadly are good tools for this) the issue is apple makes this process needlessly cumbersome after the apps are installed. apps expire and need to be renewed after a week (to get around this you need to install a server a pc you use that renews and resyncs these apps every week) and your only allowed to install 3 apps if you dont have a developer account ($100 a year). honestly, if apple removed these two restrictions i would be completely fine with there being no official support for third party appstores, as it would allow those who really wanted to build and install their own apps.
@@user-xh1fo7fv5rI've been using Android for over a decade and not ONCE have I ever gotten a virus or malware. Stop this security narrative. Android 10, 11, 12 and onward each have gotten consistently better with security. With Samsung phones, there's basically two offerings of security. One coming from Samsung, which is a manufacturer offering and the other is from Google. There's PLENTY of features that are of equal if not superior to Apple.
People who have iPhones are just incompetent of knowing what to do with an Android phone.
How about Ticketmaster???
Or Boeing or Verizon and AT&T and Comcast each in their area are monopolies. So what’s the big deal here with Apple?
YES
Watch the press conference. AG Garland explains this well.
Having a monopoly isn't the problem. Using your power as a monopoly to lock out other businesses is. I'm not saying AT&T and Comcast don't engage in anticompetitive practice. Only that Apple is the most egregious offender here.
@@celebrityrogbecause apple probably refused to give donations lol
How is no one talking about a certain company who’s CEO has the world’s biggest Yatch 😂
I get some of the things mentioned but I do not get the part about the apple ecosystem. It seams the same as wanting PlayStation controllers to work on Xbox.
It's more like having a multiplat game on Xbox, Playstation and PC and then Playstation only accepting payments for that game done on their platform and payments done on other platforms being ignored even though otherwise it all works cross-platform.
Xbox and PlayStation is a duopoly that needs to be looked in too.
The part about apple watches not working with androids isnt even fair, many FitBit and Google Pixel watch devices are Android Exclusive
Sorry to break your bubble, but there is nothing like ecosystem, it's just called internet. Non-apple devices communicate with each other like internet but apple devices only communicate with other apple devices like an intranet, intentionally build walls. Apple devices act like a angry women who refuses to talk with other people not because she can't, she can, she just intentionally chooses not to do so, amd everyone else just talks with everyone normally in an open "ecosystem".
@@cassiuscartlandbut that is because of apple making it almost impossible to use any other watch than their own. So who's fault is that?
Convenient how everyone forgets Microsoft was in the same place 25 years ago. Google is in the same place with advertising right now.
No one forgot. They just didn't mention it in this video. Watch the DoJ's press briefing. They alluded to it there. Or watch the verge
Well technically the Microsoft case was completely different. Microsoft was using their influence to dictate to small businesses what they could and couldn’t pre install on their computers for their own clients. Microsoft didn’t create the computers and didn’t own the companies selling hardware with their OS. But they were bullying small OEM vendors to force them to not install apps for their customers despite selling them tools to do just that. Google did essentially the same thing and got in trouble for it too.
However in Apple’s case they make the hardware, the software, maintain the closed ecosystem and own their apple stores. So the Microsoft lawsuit would be more like as if they started demanding that they would only sell office on the iPhone if apple banned all competing office apps and stopped making their own. It’s not Microsoft’s place to do that and they’d get sued if they tried.

but doesnt the imessage thing no longer hold water since RCS support is coming this year?
Yes, in the next major iOS update.
What is that about the messengers? I can use Signal just fine on my IPhone?
but in the USA, text messaging is the norm.
I use iPhone and Mac…so yeah I’m an Apple user. But the issues of allowing devices to communicate well enough cross platform is something that should be fixed. Yes, it’s business. But I do believe the simplest issue of them all with the green/blue bubbles thing should be ironed out for users.
It's more complex than that. There's reasons from a computer science stand point that these things are done as well. Apple created it's own picture and video files that is inherently compressed by up to 80%, called .HEIC files. There's a size limitations in SMS messages that have. to be ironed out, and all the blue message is doing is telling you, is this going through imessage i.e. the internet or SMS, which is through your cell carriers network (not the internet). This gives customers more information, and helps me to know what I can and can't do because android doesn't have the same features as ios. Non apple devices or third party apps opens the ecosystem to malware and viruses. Apples closed ecosystem provides a strong layer of security, even the government struggles to break in as we saw in the San Bernadino terrorist case. You can't mandate a company to build software to work with other devices. Are they going to sue LG because smart things only works with LG devices? What about other companies with their own proprietary systems?
@heyaisdabomb thats bogus. Apple could support RCS that would actually make it more secure for Apple users. Messaging already exists with other devices so it should be to the latest highest standard
As long as u can make calls and send text messages. That’s all that is required for a PHONE! The computer/software tech is different. If u want to be part of the Apple eco system, buy an apple product. As far as the “tap to pay” that Apple hv more of a grasp, then I would ask who came up with the tech? When iPhones first came out, they had an exclusive deal with AT&T for the first few years, so u had to be with AT&T.
Apple already announced, the day after this lawsuit was filed, that they will update iMessage to be compatible with Rcs by next year. So the fact that they can update their app so fast blows holes in your argument. Let alone announcing the update THE DAY AFTER YOU ARE SUED. You should watch the DOJs breakdown. The issue is that apple deliberately makes OTHER devices technology not work or less performative on iPhone. And because of the bad experiences with other devices apple users then shop for apple devices to save the headache. But thats the problem. The DOJ isnt saying you cant have proprietary tech. They are saying you cant build into your device faulty performance if you are connecting to a non apple device, app, product, browser, which apple 100% does hence why it lost in the EU. The USA is just copy pasting the case cause all the evidence is there.
It's beyond that, there's a monopsony side too we're developer and sellers are being controlled as well.
Every time a company gets too big, the prices go up for EVERYBODY.

this is the free market and there are options to avoid all of this, don't buy Apple, what happens is that loser companies who can't compete due to limitations of their own are being petty and whining like little losers, asking daddy government to intervene in the free market.
Apple can do all of those things because the free market is choosing Apple, if the free market decided that what Apple is doing is wrong then we would all vote with our wallets and so far we have chosen that Apple is ok.
Is the classic loser who can't play sports claims the one who can is cheating.
@@EricRamz And I have an Android phone that cost $400 that does everything I need it to do. Not all Androids are Samsung, there are many other smaller indie phone manufacturers out there that offer devices for affordable prices. That's the thing about Android, it can be used anywhere.
I as much as I dislike "what-about-isms," Private equity firms in the US are buying up all the single-family homes before they come on the market so they can rent them out at sky-high rates. It's nearly impossible for first-time home buyers to buy a house, which is historically the #1 way wealth is built in the middle class. My point is, there are more important ways that the government should be protecting citizens from corporate greed.
This comment should be pin
Are there good laws on the books already to go after that though? The Justice Department can only enforce laws that are already there, I think that’s a problem that Congress needs to do something about
Didn’t they already announce support for RCS, later in the future?
Apple has been changing (RCS, lower comissions on app store, usb-c) because of pressure. They know their time is limited to continue as a monopoly. They took small actions to avoid situations like this lawsuit. But it was a long time coming

This has similarities with what occurred with AT&T and the Bell Monopoly, that too, took the Federal Courts to change the way they operated and did business. There are some recent mega-operations that should also be checked sooner than later. Let's see if enough consumers see the issue.
And yeah that turned out so well didn’t it. I won’t even use ATT because of their poor service and I mean customer service. Haven’t used them I about 20 years now and will not.
In the case of the Bell breakup, it was because these services were land based access, so consumers were unable to choose from providers directly and were forced to use whatever Bell decided was best. Wireless services today are not restricted by the local service area in that way, which broadens available choice.
@@napynap That might be true where you live but is not where I live, each service has sections they control.
What people don't understand is that, DOJ is not asking Apple to make worst products. They are asking them to give options/choice to users. If Apple products work together nicely, then good for them. But they should not make non-apple items painful. For example, if Google decides to give only 240p on UA-cam when played in an Apple device and gives 4K to non-apple device, technically, they are not breaking any laws. However, they are making the user experience so painful on Apple devices that will make people switch to non-apple devices. Wouldn't you complain that Google is doing this intentionally? If Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft and all big tech companies do the same, then everyone will complain that they are targeting Apple by giving inferior experience and better experience on Android devices. Apple is doing the same by making non-apple experience painful and people don't realize that. Apple is subconsciously making people to use only their products instead of giving them a choice.
@@O._.O._.Ofor what ? Twitter videos ?

There’s no force. You can either buy an iPhone or an android, the choice is 1,0000% yours.
@@O._.O._.O That is the current status because Apple has established themselves as a big player. If Google, Meta, Microsoft systematically did this for a period of time in all apps, then you wouldn't even consider Apple. Say, tomorrow, none of the google, meta and microsoft apps works on Apple devices. How many days would you use Apple for? I bet 50% of the people would switch from Apple in an instant. In an open internet world, everyone has to play nicely with everyone. Even in DOJ's case, they mentioned that Apple was the main benefactor when DOJ brought their case against Microsoft.
@@ArborSeasit’s wild to me how people don’t understand this.
Excellent explanation. Thanks
Yeah the App Store needs to change
People need to get serious
Apple is less like Microsoft's anti-trust, and more like AT&T's anti-trust.
It’s nothing like AT&T, assuming you’re referring to the dissimination of Bell. Apple is not the only company selling phones and the software to go with it so they are not a monopoly in that sense. It’s much more like Microsoft, although in fairness, MS was pretty darn close to being like AT&T since they made sure the OS and Windows Explorer were the only software installed on “all” PCs. AT&T/Bell was different because they were literally the only company that could provide home phone service back in the day.
@@housepianist Honestly I don't think this is really like either one. AT&T had a true monopoly and there wasn't any real competition and all the existing phone lines were owned by one company that wouldn't share. It was broken up as a result. Whereas Android outsells iPhone every year. By definition it's not a monopoly.
With Microsoft, they had an OS that ran on other people's hardware and released tools to let manufacturers roll out custom versions of Windows pre-loaded with drivers, software, wallpaper packs and more. But when people started bundling firefox into the OEM versions of Windows Microsoft suddenly tried revoking licenses, bullying creators, and more. They released tools designed for a purpose and then intimidated people for using them when they used them according to the license.
With Apple, They built nearly everything from the ground up. The hardware, software, app store, APIs, etc. Apple has never made any secrets about how closed their ecosystem is and has marketed it as a hand curated, gated community by design. And people buy it knowing this up front. Problem is, competitors don't like playing by Apple's rules and have been aggressively lobbying the government to tell Apple how they have to do business. And now the government is getting involved.
And guess what they were able 40 years later to merge back with 6 of the 7 baby bells they broke up into.
Bs lawsuit
Bs lawsuit
Well, by this logic they could also gun for Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo for the “monopoly” of game stores on their own hardware. This is just ridiculous.
The issue I guess is the lack of other companies going toe to toe with apple
Thi yes?? They would. On a Playstation your locked down and forced to buy stuff at extreme prices for 0 reason. They also control everything that goes into the ecosystem.

Apple phones are (as offensively as possible) simple machinery for very simple minded "cookie cutter" people. You can't do anything on those phones like you can do on Samsung. It's actually laughable how the common misconception for people with Android phones is that we are "poor" or lack "sophistication." Honestly, my Samsungs (S's, Notes, and Folds) have always been way more expensive than any iPhone and was actually a great devices for people that can think outside of the Apple secret garden. I feel the cult of Apple are the people that can't drink anything else but the Apple juice and then judge you for doing so. It's not our fault you folks can't think freely for yourselves and lack the capabilities to voice wanting more out of your device. @@td3053 I get what you’re saying cuz I’ve had nearly every flagship available in the USA lol. 😂 I work in the tech industry and help customers with their devices.
There’s things with Apple that I LOVE. The security. The ecosystem. Little things in the software that just make sense that Samsung can’t do.
Example:
iPhone - open messages, tap on contact, click camera, take photo, edit and send.
Android- you can’t do that. You have to take the photo, edit it, open gallery or the message then add the photo and send.
It’s annoying.
Or say I take a screen shot.
I can’t just take it, edit it copy and send on a Samsung. I have to save it then attach it and then I have to delete it from my gallery.
Most people aren’t going into developer options and tweaking their phone.
They aren’t overclocking their phones.
They don’t even know about Samsung themes….
Majority of people don’t know tech. All they know is call, email, message and the common social media stuff.
That’s why Apple succeeds.
They’ve perfected the phone and ecosystem.
Android feels clumsy when you compare it to Apples software.
This whole suit is ridiculous !! There are dozens of other phones out there in the market that people can buy. Apple doesn’t force you into buying an Apple product, that’s a decision the consumer makes. If anything Apple should be sued for price gauging its customers and that’s about it. People buy Apple products because they feel safe in doing so.
Tbh I’ve got for years I don’t know much difference from Samsung etc and it’s hire prices

Like I commented on a similar video earlier, no one is forced to buy and use Apple products. If there's something about the way that Apple does things (and I certainly don't agree with a lot of what they do), switch to something else. This is a free market, after all. I can't stand that Apple charges so much for a simple RAM upgrade, but the choice to pay it when I bought my Mac Mini was still mine. It's funny how it's the most successful companies that the government tends to go after. But I guess the DOJ doesn't have anything better to do at the moment, so why not try to get some extra cash from a multi-trillion dollar company? Apple won't notice the loss of a couple billion dollars.
God forbid the government do something useful like putting a stop to the price gouging going on at the grocery store. If they want to go after big corporations that would certainly do more good than going after Apple.
Well said 👏
You haven't watched any of the videos or the law suit? the whole point is that you ARE forced to buy it, using a variety of techniques (walled garden, social norms, quality reduction, incompatibility with other products/phones)...That is literally the whole point of this. They use all tactics to make sure that you are an outcast if you don't have it, and with the amount of market share they have they can do it. Even charging so much for a RAM upgrade, if other tech companies could offer that service the price would be lower benefiting you the consumer. I cannot understand why anyone with any sense would defend a Big Company monopoly
@@CrimsonPhoenix15because the wall garden is a good thing. All apple products is the best if not all the most of product segments. So it is more of a choice. Every company has its own ecosystem, and apple users chooses apple ecosystem.
In the wall garden, users feel more secure and has sense of PRIVACY. And most users want to keep it that way.
Before there was an issue of COMPUTER VIRUS. And the best thing to avoid computer virus is to buy macbook. The less that apple is OPEN, the better the security.
iPhones and Macs receives updates FASTER and for longer years, but cannot be the same with androids and windows. So… uhm. Thats the “wall” that apple made.
@@pakkoignacio1424 "All apple products is the best" - no, its just your only option not the best. I figured out the reason people like you argue for them is because apple is all you know. Its the whole frog in a well analogy, and Apple knows this thats why they can trickle feed you features and innovations and then you act like its the greatest thing when its been out for 10 years.
In the walled garden they have a sense of privacy compared to what? I have both the iphone 14 and samsung note 20 even with the iphone as my main phone they offer me the same privacy.
Faster and longer updates compared to what? Google pixel offers faster and longer updates, Samsung is slower but just as long updates? You speak as though android is 1 device/company. What windows product are you comparing it to? again hundreds of devices. MAC is outright better for design, while Windows is outright better for gaming. The rest you can make an argument for either and is preference.
Virus? you're really going back 10 years ago, its not a thing anymore. Yes there was a time MAC was the safest but now thats just a standard. It had nothing to do with their walled garden but their software which was ahead of its time.
I can't comprehend how anyone with a little bit of brain cells can think a monopoly is great. Apple benefited from microsoft losing their monopoly and then turned around and did the same thing now people praise it? The only advantage the walled garden provides is seamless transitions of their products. Which if their products are truly better won't effect them. If they allowed other smart watches to integrate with iphone properly instead of restricting features like they do right now and their product (iwatch) was the best for users then it would remain the best. Stopping other companies like garmin from even trying is the main issue and if you don't see that, then you aren't smart enough for me to respond to again.
Frivolous lawsuit.
I love Apple walled garden. It just works seamlessly with one another.
RCS messaging is coming to iOS later this year
This should have been done 10 years ago
Why? Apple doesn't deserve this.
@@dancruze Yeah, this is still too leneant. They deserve the real hammer: external appstores, with Apple having exactly zero influence over them whatsoever. No notorized applications, no 30% tax, no "security" checks, no nothing. Apple should not be allowed to know what applications even exist in the external stores. That is what Apple deserves.
@@adrianconstantin1132 there are benifits to closed source and open source platforms. What your saying is we shouldn't have that choice. And I couldn't disagree more.
The benefit of a closed source system is the manufacturer has more control over the device then the users, and can force users and developers to do things that are not fair to them.

They're not being sued for not incorporating Snapdragon chips to the iPhone.

@@Impheatussee Tesla cyber truck reselling.
No but your comparison is dumb because they aren't asking to replace the engine which would be the chip on a phone by comparison. They're asking to be able to add accessories to that car/ phone and have it work as it should naturally. What apple is doing is the equivalent of them saying nobody else's tires, windshield wipers and gas will work in our apple car. You must buy all of those things from us for it working properly.
I don’t see what the problem is 🤷🏾♂️🤣
Brings me back to Internet Explorer Day...
It seems like DOJ has nothing else better to do.
Verticals integration is what makes their products work together so well.
Nothing stopping them from doing that. They are going out of their way to degrade performance and force things to work worse for anyone wanting to use anything else which is the issue.
Yes but they will need get rid of that, just make a transition or integration with other products better. That diesnt hurt Apple consumers and may help Android users to switch more seemingly
@@Dougget Extremely buggy Microsoft products and hit or miss android features are a prime example of why vertical integration will always be better.
Android devices work seamlessly with windows or linux devices, it's called internet. So if non-apple devices and services can talk with each other so well, then why can't apple products also do that? I am more worried about the price of RAM upgrades than some competitor who might go bankrupt
So many other companies doing sketchy things out there, why is Apple being targeted? 👀
I suspect some politicians received hefty campaign donations to go after Apple
Everyone is just mad at Apple for being the most innovative company in the world that’s all that’s happening here. Apple created the multi-touch display and the App Store for multi-touch apps. Now all of a sudden, Apple is in the wrong simply because other companies came out with iPhone knock offs and somehow Apple is now required to “play fair” with those knock offs.
1:00 and 1:20 Absolutely True.
iMac's that are old cannot download new software when the hardware can fully support it. This causes waste of the hardware when there is no issue.

Unless you count the time they sold the rights to Casino Royale and it was made into an American teleplay. Then he was an American CIA ("Combined Intelligence Agency") agent.

It’s been years since I used Android but there was still a problem sending high quality video between androids even if sending under the size limit.
only reason I didn't switch to 15 was the crappy type law
didn't Apple just agree to implement RCS for messaging?
doj should buy some shares in aapl and get over it
Yes, they all no doubt own Apple shares in some manner. They will slap Apple, and little more. If nothing else all the teachers pensions in the country own shares. Invest in dog food companies if they break Apple because lots of retirements will require eating it.

Users are enabling this to happen
Exactly my thoughts. It’s the users’ choice of what devices they’re comfortable to use
apple is doing nothing wrong. People buy their products. So what?
More users buy them because of the Walled Garden therefore sending them more money because it's much more of an inconvenience to be outside of an apple ecosystem when all your friends and families are. If there is a proven trends that it's easier to buy their products and they are inconvenience than the day-to-day life or Social Circles because they don't, then that means changes must be made
Actually.. Apple is making it harder to leave.. I have an iPhone with airpods and an apple watch. If I suddenly decide I want to go back with android, I lose a lot of features with my apple accessories, making it a big inconvenience to switch...

It also doesn't have modern standards when communicating with Android devices such as group text, high quality photos/videos, and e2ee encryption. I feel that that may be dangerous. While phones are small devices in your pockets, Cars are massive machines that cause thousands of deaths a day. I dont want my car crashing because I installed a custom OS on it.
thats why you keep OS to radio only. nNo entertainment software no matter from what company should be running on the same hardware as whats controlling my brakes.
Can anyone explain the blue/green bubbles? I don't get it. Oh, a proud Galaxy S series user.
Back in the day, texting was super limited. It's gotten a bit better but most companies came out with their own apps to add custom features without waiting for the ancient SMS specs to update. Things like Viber, Telegram, Skype, WhatsApp, WeChat, etc. all became ways for people to get around the limitations of texting and obviously the only way to use them was to have someone else on the same app as you. Apple went a different route and found creative workarounds and used tech that worked seamlessly alongside SMS to add many similar quality of life improvements and features to texting such as reactions, editing messages, stickers, texting money, playing games and more. But obviously this too only works if you're texting another iPhone user. So how do you know? Android users show up as green messages and iPhone users show up as blue messages.
If you're texting someone with a green text bubble it means you're limited to just what the SMS texting protocol allows. But if you see a blue bubble you're free to take advantage of all the extra features Apple has made to their texting app.
the fact the watch will not work with the iPad is bizarre
Regarding smartwatches, Samsung has applied the same restrictions. Going forward from Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, they can't be used on Apple devices.
i mean apple is also partly guilty for that not entirely samsung fault.
And that is and should always be Samsung’s right.
because they tried for a while to get apple to let it work well but they didn't want it at all. So why waste engineering effort coding software for your watch to work with a phone if you know that at the end of the day the experience its gonna be bad and therefore people will either not buy it or just claim your product doesn't work? It just brings a loss of money, resources, and reputation...

Not Only Type C Charger, They have to Change everything from A to Z
I’ve been an apple user since the iPhone 4G. Even when other devices had better cameras, keyboards and screen size options, I stuck with apple because the user experience was far more user friendly. Every time I upgraded my iPhone, I knew how to use it right out of the box. People in my extended family would switch between iPhone and android every year until they finally gave up on android and stuck with apple. I like the fact that apple only has to concern itself with creating software and hardware that works with apple, that’s why it works so well. When you have to have 100 different versions for a 100 different devices that is when you start having issues. But, that is just my opinion, I don’t speak for anyone else.
The issue is, about half the US doesn't have iPhones. You should be able to do the bare minimum (that is texting and calling) between devices, but the way Apple is set up has prevented that. I can't tell you enough how much of a nightmare it is texting my Mom from my Samsung, the videos she sends are unusable quality. I have no interest in getting on iPhone again as it was my first phone and just wasn't fond of it. Texting at least should be usable between devices.
Thats why Snapchat and instagram looks terrible on most androids. They can optimise it for each iPhone because there are only 7 models on sale. With android, there are 1000s of Manufactuers and Millions of devices, so they couldnt possibly optimise it for each one of them, and they only focus on optimising it for the really high end samsungs.
