    Citizen has always had some hidden gems, and over the last few years they've started really killing it with their new releases, particularly with mechanical watches they somewhat neglected before.

    I think Citizen is highly under-rated as a watch company. Seiko could learn a thing or two from them about build quality and QC. And their high-end paper dials are exquisite. This watch is a no-brainer for me. Definitely worth considering.

    • @TheMonsterHunterTV
      @TheMonsterHunterTV 2 роки тому +1

      Seikos problem is that they have way to much products. They began to see that problem and started cutting off a lot of models.
      It's like Seiko has it's own favourites. There are watches like the Alpinist reinterpretation where they go crazy on the specs and the QC is on point. Then they have some other Prospex-models they don't care about. It's not even a thing about pricepoint. There are some 2000 dollar watches from Seiko with bad QC and models like their diver-reinterpretations are flawless. The Sumo has way better finishing than the normal turtle. I think it's good for them that they step up in price, reduce their catalouge and offer better products. They really understood their own faults from recent years.

    That Citizen is way nicer than I expected, even compared to the thumbnail image. The unique dial, hands and case finishing all add up to an impressive piece.

    I own the NB1050-59A, which has a white dial with a slight silvery complexion. The stock bracelet was useless (male end links, two micro adjusts and 19mm as well), but after putting it on a Strapcode superfine mesh bracelet, it exudes more of a vintage King Seiko vibe. Very simple and elegant piece. Citizen also offers black and blue dial variants of the NB1050 line--these are great alternatives to the SARB for those who are interested.

    • @tiagodvt
      @tiagodvt Рік тому

      I own the black dial as well. One of the best bang per buck watch out there. Crazy specs for the money and I like the bracelet. I am a bracelet guy so the 19mm doesnt matter to me - it wont leave the bracelet.
      The male endlinks are a plus in my book, because a 38mm is a small watch and it makes it wear better on my wrist (that obviously depends on wrist size). It has solid links and endlinks, it is sized with pins and collars (which imo is superior to just pins and equally easy to size in this case due to the collar being on the middle links and not on the outter), a milled clasp, etc. It could have more micro adjustments holes or at least half links for sure. And the clasp could be better finished on the inner part - upon close inspection you can see the harsh finishing on the inside of the scissored milled parts (a small sandpaper can fix it rather easily tho). But still it is a great bracelet for a watch that costs less than 500 bucks.

      @@MeTaLISaWeSoMe95 if you have a big wrist the bracelet is ok. But with those male end links it’s like 51mm which is way too big for people with sub 7” wrists

    Thank you! I enjoyed this video. I've been eyeing these since they came out a couple of months back, but thanks for taking the trouble to shoot some nice footage of it. The Silver is also fantastic. That said, the blue packs the biggest punch.
    But what is your fascination with signed crowns? The more I collect watches and wear different watches, the less I find myself caring about what's on the side of the watch I will never, ever look at. Crowns need to feel good and be proportional. But signing them? Zero shits given here. :)
    And this branding question is also interesting. Personally I really don't care that a 7000 Euro Citizen actually just says Citizen on the dial. It's honest. The luxury is in the product: The technology and finish of a Chronomaster are truly something else, and if you associate that with Citizen's mall watches.... well, then it really isn't about the watch.
    I would argue Citizen should not do anything Grand. The brand is just fine.

    • @MosheFeder
      @MosheFeder 3 місяці тому

      @@Chrissepisje Thanks for bravely contradicting the obsession with signed crowns. Sure they're nice to have, but I’ve never considered them a decision factor in whether or not to buy a watch or something that by itself justifies a higher price. The size, feel, and ease of operation of a crown are much more important to me than whether it’s signed or not. A logo or initial will not relieve your frustration if a crown doesn’t reliably click into the date position when you need to adjust it.

    I aimed at between £600-700 which looking at how sterling is doing ain't far off , but i'd say i'd take this hi-beat beauty over what Seiko offers for an equivalent price plus in general Citizen qc by comparison isn't as much of an issue , but agree re: the signed crown & having varying lines but the main thing is the quality of the piece for the price .

    Wow, that is a really nice looking watch. I would really love to see what the silver dial version looks like. I definitely think this would make a really nice office watch that is a departure from your typical plain jane watches that are out and about. The best thing is that each dial is going to unique and different from the others in it's execution. That makes it pretty special. I would really love to see your take on The Citizen 0100 or even any of the Chronomasters.
    As far as branding goes, I have to say that I like the fact that I have a double branded Snowflake. Everyone not in the watch community see is and says, "Oh, that is just a Seiko" and I'm fine with that. I would rather have a stealthy high end watch rather than something that draws attention to me as a target when I am out on the street. That being said, I wouldn't mind having one of the Citizen 0100's because most people will just think it is "just an Eco Drive" and nothing special.

Even as a kid, long before I ever thought of collecting watches, I just didn’t like the name. It seemed to me more appropriate for a maker of ball bearings or baked rolls. An absolute STUNNER, I"m in love!!! But... I have to agree with you- if Citizen is stepping up in this game to a higher league, this should go with some sort of distinction in terms of branding... When you started presenting the watch, I was ready to "pull the trigger" on it immediately right there...until you revealed the price! From Citizen I"d expect something below 500 USD! With 700 USD they are entering some strong competition and the "trigger pulling" is becoming not so obvious anymore...

      Name me one watch below $1000, that has an equally good or better dial. You can't.

    Senior citizens, although slow and dangerous behind the wheel, can still serve a purpose.

    Brand doesn't matter if you build brand trust and price reasonably for what you're selling that's better than tonne of sub brands

    Citizen makes a lot of beautiful watches, that's for sure. I think the Chonomaster design is amazing. The watch in this review is lovely. How is the accuracy? Is it ~2 secs a day like the best Rolexes?

    Great video, I have a green dial Kuroshio that is my favorite dial out of my collection

    Yes, it's ridiculous what citizen created there. Who could've known. I'm absolutely in love with this dial, but since I bought a 3k watch, I suddenly became a 1 watch person 😅😅

    Citizen maybe should bring back the eagle motifs to differentiate mid range stuff, it’s a lovely thing. Bit harsh on the Blue Angel, Seiko watches with chronograph and slide rule are pretty busy too…

    I have to say that if I hadn't seen the brand logo I'd have sworn it was a Seiko dial. Hands and indices have a very Sarb 35 look to them. Cracking looking watch and I even think the date window suits it. Looks an absolute strap monster as well, despite the 19mm.

    Beautiful watch. At $600 it should have a 28,800 movement with bidirectional rotor imo. As it stands, I think it shouldn't be over $400.

    For the price guess I'd say $550 actual retail $800 RRP
    It's a nice watch, the colors are good. it sounds like it would probably barely fit me with my 7.5" wrist

    I used to have citizens but all ended up being a dissapointment in the end.
    I think I will have to forgive and give a place in my collection for one. This gem looks a perfect option

    It’s back in stock and I am pulling the trigger on it this time but I have to grab the black one on bracelet and switch it. What a stellar looking dial.
    I had to come back and check it again on the best Watch review channel on UA-cam, long time Jody ! Hope all is well brother !

    I do love my Ginza. Interestingly, it also has 19mm lugs and an unsigned crown. The lug width doesn't really bother me too much as a 20mm straps sit in there just fine.

    As someone whos top limit for a watch is around $1200, I hate that those kind of affordable classy watches always comes in 38mm. Anything less than 42, maaaaaaybe 40 looks ridiculous on my wrist, and there are so many Japanese out there which I would want to have which simply looks ridiculously small on my wrist :(
