Hahaha...I’m not exactly old...I’m just...distinguished... but the more I watched the video the more I felt the weight of my years!! 😂😂 Being able to recall the sights from the photos, being able to recall having been at the exact spot where some of the pictures were taken, being able to recall the many people around us in our growing years, really helps me appreciate the gift of being there at an iconic age and...appreciate my years 😄😄 Thanks for this gift of memories...now imagine...if only the pictures come alive to be motion picture clips...ala the start of The World of Suzie Wong...! 😍😍

I didn’t realise, until this minute, that Nee Soon was in Singapore. I thought it belonged to Johor Bahru, where my dad was posted to in the 50’s. All I remember of Nee Soon was visiting with my parents and brother just the one time and stopping at a small tea rooms, where we had hot buttered toast and, of course tea, which was served in a round, chunky teapot which was the standard for all teapots back then, I imagine. A simple memory but enjoyable. I remember our small table was placed under a lovely tree that had fronds, possibly a banana tree? And this is my only memory of Nee Soon and oddly I have thought about it quite often over time, but now I know where it is! 🫖☕️🌴

Yet another 'Tear Jerker', how wonderful was SIngapore those days, thank you so much for showing these amazing historical pictures. I took many photographs of Singapore in those days, a few I still posses, they bring back memories of a much better world. Human sized, free and indepedent,NO-ONE walking about glued to a Cell phone, and walking or bus riding was common for everyone, Nasi Goreng or Hokien Mee was tasty and at less than a dollar, my recent Visit to Singapore I went to Hokien Street, no more mee sellers, in fact most of the famous streets in China town have been turned into Ooh Lala shops where everything costs an arm and a leg, only Maxwell market appears to sell the REAL Chinese food, oh yes and Temple Street and one or two places in south bridge road. The entire Island is so modern nowadays that it is difficult to accept for we 'Old' Singaporeans. Thank you for bringing back those oh so wonderful memories of the nicest island in the world.

I lived in Singapore from 1967 to 1971 and have such wonderful memories. I lived in Serengoon Gardens when I first arrived and then at 11 Hyde Park at RAF Seleter where I married at the church on base called Mary the Virgin in '68. I moved to Changi with my husband when he joined 103 sqn(he was with 66sqn prior to that). I had my first daughter in Changi Hospital in 1971. We were living at 17 Toh estate. Loved Singapore and never wanted to leave. It to me was paradise.

So amazing to see these old footage of Singapore and what a joy to see the old look of Mount Faber! I was born and lived not far from the foot of Mount Faber at Kampong Bahru Road in one of the very old houses and then moved up in the 7mid-70s to an HDB flat located right next to Mount Faber and used to jog up that in the evenings! Thanks for the memories!

I am a Malaysian Malay Muslim man age 33, from Johor Bahru, I love Singapore, my second country, because my grandpa is a Singaporean.

Those were the days when people respect people and people respect older people. In today's Singapore, no one really care about the old people. Not the press, not the government authorities or the government itself. If giving out perks is a way to show care, then take it with a pinch of salt or rather a spoonful of salt. These perks are given near election time whether it is a GE or a special election. If the government really care for the old people, then it would have open up a channel for the old people to talk to their elected Prime Minister. Most of the time, the feedback of old people are censored and thrown away.

    新加坡脱离马来西亚后能从一个小岛国家发展成今天那么繁荣进步的国家。反观马来西亚土地资源丰富,石油橡胶,如今却输新加坡几万条街。人家新加坡什么资源都没有,连水都要靠马来西亚供应的国家却能很成功,治安教育经济政治都做到很成功,人民安居乐业。这个无非就是国家发展管理的问题,一个好的领导能带领你成功,失败的领导带你去荷兰。

    • @sungsang9257
      @sungsang9257 5 років тому +5

      我告诉你马来西亚为什么会输新加坡。因为马来西亚采用的是西方的民主政治体制,西方民主政治体制分这么两类;一类是美式的,一类是英式的。马来西亚用的就是英式的,这两种体制的弊端就是党派恶斗,政策缺乏延续性,执行力差还有就是贪污腐败。新加坡也采用英式模式,但人民行动党长期执政并且掌控着军队。另外狮城的反对党实力很弱,作为同文同种的华人真诚的希望新加坡人不要盲目学西方的民主体制,否则就是下一个台湾

    食物健康人心单纯
    好过现在物质生活提高又如何?人心变就不好。如果人人心像我,天下太平所以人心非常重要

Yes, It is ! The most countries in Asia were very poor, such as: Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, India , S.Korea, and Hong Kong during 50s' 60s' and 70's. Just US, EU,Japan widely invested to Asia, and imported from Asia at the end of 70s', then these Asian countries were growing quickly. And became the "Tigers".
The US, EU, and Japan also had wanted to invest China at end of 70s', but Deng xiaoping did coup, invaded Vietnam, arrest "Gang of Four", "One Child Policy", suppressed, and persecuted. all these made China being turbulent and oppressed. For those case US, EU, and Japan delayed to invest to China until Deng Xiaoping was resigned, and Chairman Jiang was on the power, then they came, and China has became "WTO" member, and since then China's economies have been growing quickly.

What is 'Sin Chia Poh'? Literally means 'Newly Added City' or in Bahasa means ' Baru Tambahan Bandar Raya'. Puzzling over a country?

Mr.Simon, don't mind, may I know you are Malaysian or Singaporean, as I know some of non Malays in Singapore did not know how to speak and understand simple Malay language, I said ( awak mahu ke mana ) they will answer back, sorry what do you say, even if I say some Chinese Hokkean few words, they also don't know what I say, I hope all non Malays in Singapore, please try to learn some simple Malay language, as your PM Lee also knows, because our neighbouring countries are all Malenesian and Austronesian world group of family.
