Actually, Steven rule is if a band continues to play, even if the other band is not playing, it will still count as a score; and will continue to count until they have played their last song.

September is too early for SU! They just big and loud and was not ready nor prepared for DaBoom!! SU all hype and they lost the zero, the game and the 5th!! Su lost no debating . JSU left because why keeping punching somebody when you already won the fight ? We came , blew them out and left . Only thing Southern won was the light show. JSU didn’t run out of songs they had songs that they played the first 2 games of the season that they didn’t play

He says at the beginning of each video that he scores the songs and not the rounds so if one band plays more songs then they’ll have more points. From the feedback he’s basically saying JSU was the better band

I give them benefit of doubt SU T-bones section is young so expect them to get better as the season goes on. They both did great saying the was this early
I was wondering what was off with SU and yeah it is the trombones. The one section you never really think twice about with them, they are normally the foundation and super solid each year.

You're right about SU's trombone section. Good catch. For the fans sake, I wish the ADs would schedule this game later in the season. Give both programs time to be their best selves.

It was early because jsu pulled out of the southern heritage classic and when Deion left the talks for the other thing fell through. They needed a game and Southern stepped up.
For JSU to not bring their entire band, the clarity, the song selections…..overall win…..JSU sousaphones are 10 less than SU….Southern just big for no reason…when SU plays songs back, they never have a better arrangement than JSU….

I like and respect the Boom and Juke..but the sound of both bands in November vs September is totally different. Both are stronger and better prepared for this battle in the later part of the season. If your honest with yourselves and love band..JSU with the win.
Lol... I made a lil cameo in the video! I was standing under J State. Both bands had their moments but I think SU edged them in the 5th.

@cchisolm92cc the overall sound, song selection & execution. We can nitpick sections until we're blue in the face but that doesn't negate both bands put on a great show. They were literally going blow for blow(pause) b4 JSU abruptly exited the battle. JSU sounded amazing as I was standing right beneath them as I can be seen in the video, but I give SU the edge on a few rounds. Specifically, My Funny Valentine, So Into You & that BOOMERANG that came back & slapped JSU in the face as they bailed on the fight in THANK GOD! Neither is my school so this is my unbiased opinion as a fan of both bands.
Sadly, su bone sect is waaaaay better than in the past. Sounds like they tried to write for them this year and they wasnt up for the task. Jsu is and always will be a bone band. Source of power has been our bands identity for our sound for 4 decades. I dont see that changing any time soon.

The last song from Jackson shouldn’t have got a 5.. Southern played it behind them and it was way better..

SOUTHERN! I love that you are a musician and so I value your opinion! Their song selection was good but it does not have to be RAP or bouncy tunes all the time, however; I would like more upbeat tunes and more good old music like Frankie Beverly, Earth, Wind, and Fire and some of the new songs that the students and fans like. Thanks for your review!!!
I have to agree with you about the bones.The song selection didn't help the overall energy for the battle.
Honestly being at the game it gave a totally different vibe than how this footage sounds… JSU did bring heat at times however, in person, it felt like some of the arrangements were shaky and execution as well… This footage sounds different. In person I felt like SU got the W. If you listen to Human Jukebox, Smash time, JSU, or Marching sport, all of the audio sounds different. So if you wasn’t there in person, it kind of depends on what footage you look at to how you may view it.
My boy said the same thing.. he was there and his opinion is different from the people that only watch footage
When you there in person you don't hear those bad notes you hear when you see the recording either. See that recording exspose them notes fareal. Yes in person SU sound great but when you go back and hear the recording you definitely hear them bad notes. Remember that.

I wouldn't recommend JSU folks to watch Steven's band reviews. I haven't seen any of his videos where he rated JSU higher than any school. I mean never, lol. You could put an elementary school band against JSU and he'll call it a draw lol.

I was there and if we are going to be honest both bands did great but i really think it came down to song selections. U can tell what songs they really didn’t want to play because of the energy. JSU tubas won for me.
Now you know SU never admit when they lose. And if you been watching these bands long enough you would know SU lost battles before. The great Ali wasn't even undefeated. So whoever brain washed to even thinking SU never lost a battle or can lose a battle something is seriously wrong with yall. SU is not perfect. Nobody or nothing ever is.

Just curious to who the people are sitting behind SU cymbals, inside the tubas to the right?!? Stevens right, Jsu does sound better. SU louder of course, but to the people that know true musicianship, can clearly hear the difference.
The point system should end after one of the bands leave.
I Dnt think he should have counted the last 2 rounds if the 5th battle was over with.
Steven, if one band plays an extra song more than the other, then you should dismiss that 1 song so that the score would be explainable. If Southern played 5 songs and Jackson State played 4, then you need to take away the last song from Southern. This way, the score would be unbiased.
