Jackson State's J5 is in class all by themselves. Different routine with each yearly team but always in line with their traditions. Much love!! Go, Boom 💙🐅💥
JSU’s J5 has the best drum majors hands down, have been the best for a long time now. No competition IMO!
Go Boom😁
This year they came with a 2nd routine after football season.
JSU's style is the most imitated style among our craft. Back in the 1970s while everyone had a stiff, Big 10 or military style, the J5 were bouncing, spinning, thrusting, pointing and doing splits. They are the originators. 🔥
Wrong JSU did not having that style until 1987
I've seen clips from the 70s with them doing some of those moves @drhhaa22
@@drhhaa22not true. Your archives don't go back far enough.
The Ocean's drum majors were never military style. What they do has been that way since 1969.
@@sordidC I never said the Ocean had a military style.
Nobody makes an entrance like J5
They know how to step
AND I MEAN NOBODY
NOOOOBODYYYY!!!!!
That's if you like Hook-Boogie and High School style
@@jbabylove2 tf is Hook-boogie? You sound like a hater because there is nothing high schoolish about J-5. Now if you like that bland unseasoned style most colleges give you then just say that. You don’t have to hate on something that is actually pretty damn cool
😮@9:53!!! Did he just smooth criminal lean😂😂 Baaby!! JSU J5💙 lol
J5, your favorite DMs, favorite Dm .... Alot of these other drum major squads use J5 as a template to build their style.
Interesting lineup .. but we all know Jackson gone take that
PVU drum majors are always clean, smooth, and entertaining! A good balance 💯
J5 hands down winner. I appreciate the creativity of the drum majors.
I love FAMU’s drum majors, especially when they’re on the field. BCUs drum major style is also iconic and pretty nostalgic for me, so many South FL high school bands imitated both of these schools.
Jackson State University
Now everybody knows J5 is THEE best…..when ppl think of collegiate drum majors they think of J5
Jackson State University #1 period!!
Look, Jackson State's J5 leaves the rest in the dust.
The Get Ready routine changes slightly each year. They did about 3 this year. They had a new one for the Boombox battle of the bands and also had to change due to injuries causing members to be sidelined.
J5 WITHOUT FEAR OF CONTRADICTION
I'm going to be unfair before completely watching, or reading the comments. I went to PVA&MU, but Jackson State has always impressed, and kept me anticipating their entrances. Their highstepping, energy, and overall consistency keeps the image of what I think the HBCU Drum Major is alive. Especially when you don't see those attributes in other DM's.
Yaaa Jackson got that 👌🏾 👏🏾💪🏾🔥
J5 it's not even close
J5 is it 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 there are no comparisons
Sonic Boom all day, every day! JSU 💙
Wow; Jackson State is always the best! Luv da Boom!
Honestly.. Jsu DM's energy is u matched on entrance. But bethune cookman has the best entrances hands down. A different entrance every year 🤷🏾♂️.. and famu DM's set the standard of what a DM should actually be..
Funky 4 💜💛 & J5 💙🤍 for me! 👌🏾 MISSISSIPPI
My top 5 are:
1. Jackson State
2. Alabama State
3. Bethune Cookman
4. Prarie View
5. Old school Morris Brown
The videos weren't even yoked. They all should have been drum major feature entrances versus band movement. Just my opinion. Love all HBCUs❤
J5 and 5Horseman and the most imitated DM styles for sure and i think that stands for something
As a former DM both High school and university, I was introduced to FAMU and JSU. So I like a nice blend of both show style and Military at the right moments. However, BAMA st. Marching out, that deconstructed, Nutcracker style is 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Flashy yet clean always win in my book.
JSU-J5 period.
J State Drum Majors are the best.💙
J5 Get Ready routine changes every year. The new 5 make their own routine.
J5 do be getting it in
Signatures moves are still there. But definitely a different routine each year.
You should do a comparison video dating a few years back to now of the jsu DM routines
Seems like they have adopted a smoother style instead of the more bouncy aggressive style from years ago
Any DMJ’s that point on the 8 count falls under the JSU umbrella.
I don’t know about that…I’m pretty sure TxSU started that point on 8 in the 80s before JSU DMs got their style.
the point was during their opening theme “Talking out the side of your Neck.”
If you have evidence to the contrary please provide it…
@@BlackAnt27no jsu dms have been doing that style literally since about the 70’s …
@@gregallen3536 evidence please.
Because I’m sure they developed their style in the mid-late 80s…
@@BlackAnt27search for the JSU clips on UA-cam from 1978.
@@jeromebrooks8209 none of those clips are referring to the pointing on the 8 count jsu drum majors do today that the original comment was talking about.
I think every bands drum majors fit there tradition and fits there band. If they were all was the same this sht would be boring. Southerns 1 drum major fits them. Ive seen famu at 10 when there band was larger and it fit there needs to keep tempo. I love all the different styles
JSU J-5! 💙
Easily Jackson State J5
Every drum major squad has their own unique identity and I love the spectrum. I typically like the more reserved styles but I like an in between glorified male dancers and stern minimalism.
You see which one is last. Always save the best for last 👌
JSU
Nobody…… Nobody! Does it like J5!! JSU baby!! #THEEILOVE
When it comes to military core style traditional FAMU all day, When it comes to Show Style/ Dance No one tops JSU and BCU has mixture of both to a degree. But each DM fits there band, JSU DM wouldn't work with FAMU and Vice Versa, so it really depends on the band
Chose possibly the worst video for ASU but whatever 🗿 still respect you Steven 💯 love the videos
BCU has the best field intros. J5 has the best parades and march In
100 percent true
JSU all the way
Nice job from all of them now I am a Panther for life but Jackson State and Alcorn 👍👍
J5 (Dance Style Entrance-Entertainment) sets tone of football game for the crowd.
I did not know they were at the Super Bowl 🫣🫤
From this list Jackson J5 got it....I died at whoever that was that took the power ranger pose! 🤣🤣🤣But, I'll wait on the next video cause I know Steven Holiday will have his own AOB drum majors on that one...! Surely!
J5💙💙💙
I get so hype with JSU band
JSU !!!!🏆
THE J FIVE!
Drum majors are field generals and not a clown show. The majority of the HBCU bands drum majors outright clowns. The true essence of drum majors are in Tallahassee, FL (💯)
Funky 4 💜💛
Yes, they are good.
Terrible. Copy cats
Im PV all day but I also loved Alcorn and Jackson State
Jackson State. 💙
I USE TO DRIVE BANDS TO COMPETITION!!!!! I USE TO WATCH VARIOUS CITIES COMPETITIONS.
MY FIRST TO EVER WATCH: GAMBLING STATE AND SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY BAMMM!!
J5 best in the land 💙💙💙
They all march similar to each other with the exception of Alcorn and J5 even tho Alcorn copies J5....
The Ocean's drum majors aren't similar to anyone except TnSU and even then it's only minimal. Been that way since 1969 when Maestro Ben Butler, former TnSU drum major, came to Texas Southern and founded the Ocean of Soul.
@@sordidC Hopefully you'll get your eyes checked. There's nothing that TXSU's DM's that's spectacular... 🤣🤣🤣 If you line these squads up side by side, they'll all look the same besides J5...
Clearly you're the one that's blind. The Ocean's drum majors and even PV drum majors have never ever and I DO mean EVER looked like or tried to look like JSU. Dahell are you talking about? Did you even march?😂
@@sensoryprovided Oh we all know that they don't copy J5... And yes I marched with the band you wanted to be a part of... 🤣🤣🤣
@@MrLANKY04 no you didn't. You just meatride whoever the fuck you meatride.🤣
JSU...hands down!!!!
J5. Thats all!
Jsu marching style is still crazy
I love T’s drum majors
If you know the history JSU & Alcorn is differ but definitely have major similar formations & Styles
Judging from 80s clips of Alcorn on UA-cam, Alcorn copied JSU in the late 80s.
@@jeromebrooks8209 If you know the real history Alcorn started that style of drum major marching
@drhhaa22 UA-cam videos don't lie. J5 has been marching that like since the 70s. I just watched a video of Alcorn from 1983 and it was very robotic and military. Again, Alcorn didn't switch up their style until the mid to late 80s.
@@jeromebrooks8209 Nope Watch JSU in the 70s Drum Majors style was different Drum majors was not featured until 87 matter of fact watch them in 86 to 87 totally two different styles. one thing you got right Alcorn drum majors style change in 85.
@drhhaa22 what do you mean "featured"? I'm speaking in reference of their marching style and showmanship. All of those things are JSU originals.
J5💙🤍💯THEE BEST!
I USE TO LOVE THOSE NORTH AND SOUTH CAROLINA DRUM MAJORS AND JACKSON STATE DRUM MAJOR'S AND LOUISIANA DRUM MAJORS.
MAYBE THEY GRADUATED AND MOVED ON.
J-5 all day long.
Would love to see you do this for another conference
It's in the works! Any particular school(s) you have in mind 🤔
@@StevenHoliday welll lol. SIAC I know Edward Waters and Benedict are both coached by former Horsemen. I think another school is too, can't remember right now.
J5 the male counter parts to the JSettes...lol, I love their dance routines but as far a them being Drum Majors in the traditional since of the word, they don't even come close, more like Dance Majors not Drum Majors...lol, but I will say this the the other schools that do similar styles of that high bouncey Tigger the Tiger jump get it from JSU, so props to them on that.
J5 is the best the SWAC bands are the best
Jackson St
I love the Marching 100’s and JSU drum majors also BCU
Who started playing blade edge first TxSU or SU?
Great job Alcorn
Love THEE J5
🐍🧡💚 famu jsu and bcu has the best drum major squad
I see JSU was in there twice.🤔 I didnt know J5 had yellow uniforms as well. 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bcu all day!!
For me it's Spartan Legion. MR. Spartan and Captain Soul!!! Military Style ready for war.
How many of those plooms do y'all go through?
Well, when I marched, TBS and the band managers would bring one to two plastic trunks of them for every game.
J5 auditioning for a Richard Simmons work out video...
😅😅😅😅
J5!!! Alcorn is the closest second.
FAMU !!
J5 top tier 🫡
It all depends on what you like with a DMs. I prefer the military style. That's what I'm used to seeing.
Look up JSU Marching into Motown ! Enough Said
THEE!
Alcorn had four before a lot of these others even before JSU….Alcorn just need to go back to its originality.
Why does ncat drum majors march in front of the banner?
don’t know but they don’t always march in front of the banner
Alcorn uses the J5 play book
Nice list... I like most HBCU drum majors. I expect something different from every band and depending on the atmosphere, an occasional wow factor. My top 5 are the following
1. Norfolk State
2. Jackson State
3. ASU
4. Alcorn
5. PVAMU
Alcorn entrance and with the kick is fire. Honestly one of the best if not the best from the SWAC. Then next up would Bama State.
J5 all day...
Alabama state live five drum major
Good footage, fella… but it’s nearly impossible to accurately compare them all..
But I’ll settle an argument - go and find footage from 77 or 78 when JSU played at Alcorn (old Henderson Stadium). There was no J5, or was a J2. There’s footage of Walter Bishop and Phillip Brewer (JSU’s DMs) and the two from Alcorn… THAT footage will settle the “who started juking” first…
I was at those games.
Just so you know, most history, and current day shows that MOST of the band directors in Alcorns band are JSU alums. That's just the facts.
1. BCU
2. JSU
3. Alcorn
Although I joke and call J5 a “Dance Troupe”, they are spectacular. I prefer BCU’s style though
HAIL WILDCATS BCU
That change it every year
JSU.... bAma State
Alcorn
Yeah it’s cool
