JSU one of the only bands that hear FEATURE their woodwinds. So crisp.
Their woodwind section is very good and loud!!
The woodwinds in the country. They play with clarity and confidence.
This the real size of the BOOM for everybody wondering how they got this big . We had a schedule full of away games so the whole band didn’t come

Highlight moments for me:
1. Intro- Musiq Soulchild “Love” transition to Keisha Cole “Love” 🤌🏽
2. Intro-Bobby Valentino “Slow Down” transition to Skip Marley/H.E.R “Slow Down” 🔥
3. “Wishing on a Star”- Rose Royce then ended it with the tag “When you wish upon a star” from Disney by Cliff Edwards ✨
4. “Water”🌊 by Tyla was arranged soooo good!
5. Master Class ✍🏽 and great band musicians.

Travis pen is good but Dr. Little pen game is off the charts .
Yep, but Kevan Johnson’s pen is better than both right now. He put on a master class in arrangements during this battle. They played primarily Kevan’s arrangements this battle. I think he had 3, Little had one, Travis had maybe two. They are a great trio. They have their mix for the next 5 years or more if they stick together.
The JSU trumpet box is TALENTED!

Going to say something I didn't think I'd ever have to type... SU didn't have the POWER to keep up with JSU at this battle. Not just sheer force of sound but clarity and musically JSU mopped this all the way up.
To be honest, jsu had the discipline and maturity that su lacked. You can tell they did not want to play most of the songs that they played.
It’s a culture change at SU…. Haymer had them Stupid…. Simmons tried to duplicate what once was, with all the antics and clown shit…and that’s when the discipline got lost!! Kendrick is a great musician, but not sure he is what the Jukebox needs to be….”The Jukebox”…

I love both programs for the culture 💪🏽 JSU is a complete band this year - all sections are doing their jobs, which is awesome to hear !! SU knows within the program what they need to work on this year- but they are still 1B in the SWAC… great battle to both programs and students

You know a band doing band when they got Steven cursing. Throughly enjoyed your reaction. And yea this wasn’t close at all. Actually gave southern a 2 on “Weak” because that was just terrible. Idk what’s happening to southern but this ain’t the band we been used to
They haven’t been right since Haymer was terminated or resigned. I’m not a fan of Southern but I will say that they used to give JSU a run for they money sometimes when Haymer was their director.

After I finished dancing to Candy Rain (whew, my legs were tired), JSU had my attention big time. Good battle. Both bands had an issue here and there (SU more than JSU). I have to give this to JSU. Their songbook was better. I love them all, but that Candy Rain just took me away for a minute 😅. Fantastic job, JSU! OUTSTANDING. Oh, and Steven, your facial expressions are killing me, LOL. "Yes, I was laughing at the trumpets." LMFAO
It was at the 14:02 mark that Steven knew SU was in trouble lmaooo

As a Spartan Legion alum and a band head I was entertained by both bands but around the 29:21 Mark JSU started to widen the gap and separate themselves from SU during this battle. Song selection played a huge part in my opinion of who came out on top. Both had miscues but Southern’s were more prominent. I still think both bands are awesome. BEHOLD✊🏾💚💛
JSU…. Strait BEAST!!! SU has upset me, I remember battling with them in 94, way better back in the day. I think band a are so busy going with size instead of quality.
