Yes! Thanks for a great explanation and demonstration! I had picked up a Stradivaro machine for 10 bucks at a thrift store. The tension was off and I was trying to learn how to thread it properly (no manual and no info online). So, I was making small repairs on clothing as I experimented with thread paths, then got the bright idea to make a waistband smaller. The machine bucked like a wild stallion and has not made a stitch since! I believe I finally discovered a thread path that doesn’t have thread billowing in the wind. Yet, the upper thread breaks immediately when using the foot pedal. It doesn’t break as soon using the hand wheel. It appears the hook is catching the thread but the thread is not catching the bobbin thread. I think I have two problems, tension (it is currently on one to even allow it to go through) and a problem with the bobbin and upper thread connecting.
Very well explained. I might add that a needle-strike can knock the bar up just enough that it still straight stitches fine, but skips stitches at the left and right zig zag extremes, as the thread loop gets just out of reach. Had this issue on a little 330 today. First clue was a hard needle-strike on the hook that was snagging thread.
How? You have to do a demo to show steps how to pull down the bar. My case is after I loosen up the clamp screw, and try to adjust the bar. As the bar comes down, the hook goes with it so I can't never re-position the bar and the hook.
I understand the concept. however, on my Singer Touch and Sew 638, the person that had it before me, loosened the screw on the needle bar clamp and never tightened it back. It is just down as far as it will go. Now, when I am trying to get the needle in position to where it should be as the hook is coming around, the screw is too far down behind the metal casing to tighten it. I tried to position it with the markers on the bar just so I could see the bottom marker coming out of the bushing, and it is still too far below to tighten it. Do you know where the bar should be positioned when the needle is at its highest point and I have access to the screw?
Arcady Genkin I wanna know this too. I adjusted the timing but my needle still rubbing on the bobbin housing I could hear it scratch every time it makes a stitch
When the needle is as far down as it can be, raise it 1/16" of an inch. It should still be just below the hook level as shown in this video. See his other video on timing ua-cam.com/video/w8DQxsOZimY/v-deo.html These two videos are the best explanation I've seen on UA-cam so far.

How do you know whether you need to move the needle bar or rotate the hook to solve a timing issue?

What if the needle's lowest point is so low it is hitting the bottom of the bobbin case holder?
