Definitely one of my favorite episodes of this season. Wendy's reaction to Dipper's confession was so realistic and considerate. She didn't like Dipper romantically but she didn't make fun of him or act as if it was weird and creepy. To clarify the fingers problem: Alex the creator said that they gave most adult characters 5 fingers and kid characters 4 purely because it looked better. In universe it will never be brought up, the only discussions are regarding the 6 fingers of the author.
Yeah, presumably the kids/teens all have five fingers too, it's just stylistically shown as having four. Or in the GF universe you grow a fifth finger once you turn 18 XD
@@kenjutsukata1o1 It's probably more of a per character design choice than an age group based one. Gideon is always drawn with 5 fingers, as is Thompson. Lee and Nate have varying number of fingers between scenes but are often drawn with 5.
@MAYRA CORDERO They make a good team. But this episode makes it clear that Wendy has zero romantic interest in Dipper. Spoiler for S2 Ep10 He eventually warms up to his true future girlfriend
A quick note on the finger-thing (no spoilers) Usually, characters with a 'thin' design (Most of the kids, Wendy, Cutebiker) have 4 fingers, while characters with a 'thick' design (Soos, Stan, Grenda) have 5. As far as I am aware, that difference is just an animation quirk. The hinting around the journal writer having 6 fingers is written with the baseline assumption that, in-universe, characters actually have 5 fingers, even if they're not drawn that way.
I love how Wendy let Dipper down slowly and gently. She was so considerate when she talked it over. She didn't really like him back, but she never teased him about it. And she makes a very good point when she says "I'm too old for you". Dipper is 12 and Wendy is probably 14. I love how she and Dipper remained friends after this because honestly, I don't really see a romantic relationship between them.
She's fifteen. But yeah, three years is a huge gap at those ages. But as Elijah said, 21 and 24, not so much. Even less at 31 and 34, etc. So anybody who likes the ship doesn't have to surrender it completely.
11:51 Fun fact: Alex Hirsch stated that the amount of fingers a character has is based on their design. If you go back in the show you’ll notice that there are characters like Mable, Dipper, and Wendy who only have four fingers where as there are also characters like Stan, Soos, and Gideon who have five fingers
One of the best episodes imo. I really liked the conversation between Dipper and Wendy at the end. I think it's a good example for kids to follow if they find themselves in that situation.
This episode is really great, not only in terms of how the author lived his life when working in Gravity Falls, but Dipper and Wendy's relationship. It was a very phenomenally-written conversation between them, and Wendy continued solidifying herself as one of the best characters. She was incredibly flattered, but even though that type of commitment wouldn't work out between her and Dipper, she was still willing to be his friend due to how exciting their time together has been. It made her summer as much fun and interesting as Dipper's. I love that moment so much!
Here we are. Personally one of my favorite episodes because this is where the show pulls no punches and also shows a good deal of maturity. I kinda see this as the "Echoes of the Past" of GF, taking a running gag from Season 1 and ending it with grace and maturity for the sake of the story.
Kids (minus Grenda I think) have four fingers, Adults have five fingers. It is based on the size of their hands and how much space the artists had to draw fingers

some spoiler-free things: 1. Some of the characters have 4 fingers, some have 5. It's just animation preference. A bit weird when one of the big symbols is a 6 fingered hand. 2. The form you thought was groot was actually the hide-behind. Just a random monster from one of the shorts. 3. Remember that pose the shape shifter freezes as.
I hope she took note of the Shapeshifter's final pose for Dipper just before being frozen. Also, really looking forward to how she'll react to one of the mid-season episodes focusing on Dipper and a certain character you'd think was nothing but a vain, petty stereotype.
This episode stands out in my memory for a lot of reasons. 1st of all, it's a great facilitator of the mystery of the Journal's author. It really has this sort of earie creepy vibe that creates this unforgettable feeling that the author knew smth we don't. And we're not sure whether we want to know. And 2nd of all, Dipper's feelings towards Wendy finally got resolved, and in my opinion the resolution was great. As for the fact that some characters have 4 fingers while others have 5, that's because a hand with 4 fingers is easier to draw and animate and it's never acknowledged in the show. Canonically they all have 5 fingers (except for the author).
Elijah showing those different manga in the beginning starts me down a rabbit hole. I've binged basically all the ones she showed and now I'm dying for more. Think I'm gonna buy the light novel for "I'm in love with the villaness" cause im desperate for more lol
As an answer for the 4 finger detail question: I’ve heard that Alex Hirsch has said that the reason why some characters only have 4 and some have 5 is simply that is was an artistic choice; If he felt like that character looked better with 4 fingers, then he chose to give them 4 fingers instead of 5. The 6 finger thing with the author is very much a unique trait though.
Many characters in western animation have 4 fingers. It's so much easier to draw in a way that looks convincing, especially when you have to make a lot of drawings of the same person quickly. It's a tradition going back all the way to Mickey Mouse. Shows like Molly McGee still have it, as do a lot of non-human characters even today, such as the frogs in Amphibia.
If I recall, Alex said the reason most other characters have 4 fingers instead of 5 is for ease of animation, but given how important the author having 5 fingers is to the plot, he wishes he had given everyone else 5.

I love how each episode of shows you react to has had a common theme recently. Moxxie and Norma coming out, now Badyah and Mabel trying to force an impossible relationship. Depending on what reactions you do next, we might get another theme!
When I first watched this episode, and saw the zipped lip thing, I thought it was a neat little way of differentiating the two. It was when I went back and re0watched the series that I realized I forgot something: "The Inconveniencing." When Wendy decides to keep it secret from the other teens how Dipper defeated the ghosts and saved them, she makes the same motion, which Dipper mirrors in agreement. So, her zipping her lips was not just set up in this episode, but all the way back in the fifth episode of season one.

Oh hell yeah “I Favor the Villainess” is an amazing series. I highly recommend reading the light novel. It is a rare series that actually talks about the LGBTQ+ community
One of the considered best episodes by the fandom due to its creepy nature. Along with how it wraps up Dipper’s crush on Wendy (for the most part). It’s definitely one of my favorites. Apparently the characters ranging from having 4 & 5 fingers is due to the designers going “who looks best with 4/5 fingers?” when designing the characters. Which the creator kinda regrets due to it making the “6 finger” clue a bit weird in the long run. Fun video overall!
Cool thing about those end screen images with the codes: If you save the images and print them out. They're all a massive jigsaw puzzle. Tape the pages together when youre done and you get a poster!
7:39 Now I hate Copyright even more because Elijah took out the part where Mabel says Not as creepy as Dipper’s browser history, I badly wanted to see how she would react to that part 8:50 YOU SEE WHAT I MEAN?!!! And I Get the hate for Saying Mabel is sometimes annoying, like literally if I had a little sister and she did this to me I would’ve lock her in her room for 2 months or worse (Not too worse) And I swear one of my friends used to do this to me back then, AND THIS SCENE TRIGGERED ME!!!
OMG "I'm in Love with the Villainess" is maybe my favorite series ever, but no one seems to know about it. Since they're books you can't really do a reaction (although I think they are making an anime version) but I would love love LOVE to hear your thoughts.
I've got I Married My Best Friend To Shut Up My Parents and it really is a sweet story. I also can't reccomend Dragon Maid enough. It currently has two ten episode seasons and some OVAs as well as the mainline manga and three spinoffs that have been released in the West so far. And yes it's one of the most cutely sapphic series I've ever read.
hey elijah, the numbers at the end of the episode below the atom are from a code called hexadecimal code, it can be translated, just follow the order of the numbers from left to right
According to Alex Hirsch the number of fingers changes depending on what fits best with the design (in relation to Dipper and Mabel, etc) except in relation to the Author
What you noticed about characters only having 4 fingers is what's known as the "Million Dollar Finger". When Walt Disney first had Mickey Mouse animated, he drew him with only 4 fingers. This saved a million dollars in animation. Ever since, it's become pretty standard in most cartoons to only draw characters with only 4 fingers unless you're seeing a close up of their hands, or if their hands are really big and the missing finger would be more noticeable. Basically, doing 4 fingers is just a way to save money.
The nice thing about reacting to this on UA-cam is that when you are explaining it to your therapist some day you'll have a good idea of the exact date and time.
The first code translates as *"WHAT KIND OF DISASTER INDEED"* The journal page translates as *"IMPROPER USE OF MACHINERY, COULD LEAD TO UTTER CATASTROPHE."* By now, you've probably noticed that the journal pages codes are in rhyme.
I really hope people stop pointing stuff out since then we don't get *your* theories and ideas on things. We get your impressions of what other people have pointed out for you to notice. Not saying anything towards the theories themselves, but it's nice to get to see a reactors thoughts and impressions without the influence of others. Hope you're enjoying the show!
13:46 i would suggest watching the shorts of gravity falls because thats where that thing appears and its not groot although i think it was a reference to guardians of the galaxy i do not know if the short s have spoilers
Not sure if anybody else pointed out the hand on the journal, but for my ego I'll just assume I was helpful ^^. Aside from that, that scene at the end was such an amazing moment of showing Wendy's character. Just that she didn't say he was too young for her but she was too old for him is such a great choice of words. There were so many ways she could have said this but she picked the one where she implied "the fault" (for a lack of a better word) was on her side, not his.
Those were my bookmarks shown!! I'm so glad they made it! (I was so worried about them making it thru the mail) but I'm so glad they made it and everyone got to see some of them!! I spent so long working on those, trying to make sure I got the pride flags right for each of my headcanons and the amount of packing tape I used to "laminate" them LOL (so much) but it was totally worth it!!!
The voice of the shapeshifter is Mark Hamill, Luke Skywalker from Star Wars, Fire Lord Ozai from Avatar: The Last Airbender and the Joker from Batman: The Animated Series
This season starts diving in more into the horror which I love. Can’t wait when she reaches the mansion episode that episode was a true testament of how Alex was able to get away with stuff. If I’m correct cause I forget the next episode is the puppet episode which is exciting cause I love that episode.
In Gravity Falls, people either have 4 or 5 fingers depending on hand size, Wendy, Mabel, and Dipper have 4 because they have small hands and it’s easier to animate. But, Soos and Stan have 5 because they have larger hands. Idk whether or not the 4 fingers are canon or not, we might have to excuse it as an animation trick and the 4 fingered characters might have 5 fingers actually??? I’m really unsure.
Think it's more of an animation trick. Aside from the easier work for animators, audiences kinda take for granted animated characters have 5 fingers unless told otherwise.
*By the way Elijah, the reason some of the characters (like Dipper and Mabel) have four fingers and others (like Soos and Grunkle Stan) have five is simple. Just wanted to mention, this episode isn't in your Gravity Falls reaction playlist. Thanks for reacting to this show!
Bloom Into You is a fine start.
I FEEL OLD
THIS EPISODE AIRED WHEN I WAS IN KINDERGARTEN
But I've been quoting every single iconic line that pops up in these reactions
5:35 Little does Elijah know what she was saying...
Decode for the numbers: improper use of machinery could lead to utter catastrophe
Cool thing about those end screen images with the codes: If you save the images and print them out. They're all a massive jigsaw puzzle. Tape the pages together when youre done and you get a poster!
My favorite part is when you were like "wait what does both look like" and when it shape shifted you regretted asking lmao 🤣🤣🤣
*currently obsessed with I love the villianess atm, the anime for it is coming out this year and I am SO ready!*
I've been waiting for Elijah to react to this episode all week
Uh oh. Get ready to feel bad for dipper.
The way that Mabel says "Allow me to put on my Skepticals" is so cute and adorable!!!! LOL!!!!!
Elijah: *"That will haunt my nightmares"*
Yup, because of this show, Amphibia and Owl House have creepy and traumatizing moments
7:39 Now I hate Copyright even more because Elijah took out the part where Mabel says Not as creepy as Dipper’s browser history, I badly wanted to see how she would react to that part
8:50 YOU SEE WHAT I MEAN?!!! And I Get the hate for Saying Mabel is sometimes annoying, like literally if I had a little sister and she did this to me I would’ve lock her in her room for 2 months or worse (Not too worse) And I swear one of my friends used to do this to me back then, AND THIS SCENE TRIGGERED ME!!!
the GRACE this episode ends with.
My name is Grace
@@gracerastko3 you are the ending of an episode? cool tbh
That 'Bloom Into You' jumpscare at the start got me, dang-
ME TOO I WAS LIKE WAIT HAS SHE READ BLOOM INTO YOU
Am I the only one who wants Elijah to react to the Gravity Falls Shorts?
OMG "I'm in Love with the Villainess" is maybe my favorite series ever, but no one seems to know about it. Since they're books you can't really do a reaction (although I think they are making an anime version) but I would love love LOVE to hear your thoughts.
"Good luck sleeping tonight"
Well, I'm watching this now right before going to sleep 😂😂😂
1:40 OO Ive read four out of five of those and they are all interesting!! For very different things but all definitely sapphic as hell
OMG BLOOM INTO YOU!? I LOVE THAT SERIES!! ITS SOOOOOOO GOOD.
AND IM IN LOVE WITH THE VILLAINESS!? AHHHH
Wendy doing the whole "My lips are sealed" is so sweet!!!!! I love it!!!!!
Actually there is a girl in this town for Dipper and you will not believe who it is.
Also fun fact, the shape-shifting monster is voiced by Mark Hamill, aka Luke skywalker/ the joker
hey elijah, the numbers at the end of the episode below the atom are from a code called hexadecimal code, it can be translated, just follow the order of the numbers from left to right
I'm so glad this premiere is not on a schoolnight for once ♡
Man, Alex Hirsch and the cast along with the Gravity falls crew were probably going all fan-boy and fan-girl with Mark Hamill as the shape shifter
I can’t believe i haven’t found you sooner lol you’re my new favorite reaction UA-camr. You get all the secrets so quick
I love this episode and the closeness of dipper and wendy is just wonderful and so is your channel!
Make sure to remember the form he took of Dipper because it's foreshadowing
This is one of my favorite episodes Gravity Falls. So real. So awkward romatic moment. More of this whole mistery about the author. Love it.
According to Alex Hirsch the number of fingers changes depending on what fits best with the design (in relation to Dipper and Mabel, etc) except in relation to the Author
YESSSS
THE MANGAS YOU WERE GIVEN ARE JUST 🧎
What you noticed about characters only having 4 fingers is what's known as the "Million Dollar Finger".
"Good luck sleeping tonight!" is still my favorite line of the show.
The kids in this series has 4 fingers while the adults have 5
The first code translates as *"WHAT KIND OF DISASTER INDEED"*
The journal page translates as *"IMPROPER USE OF MACHINERY, COULD LEAD TO UTTER CATASTROPHE."*
By now, you've probably noticed that the journal pages codes are in rhyme.
13:46 i would suggest watching the shorts of gravity falls because thats where that thing appears and its not groot although i think it was a reference to guardians of the galaxy i do not know if the short s have spoilers
i loved this episode, in fact when i thought about dipper and wendy, i gave them the name of a couple you could count on, Dippendy
I've read all of those expect I haven't finished I'm in love with the villainess yet
I never wanted to revisit episode 203 that much until now...
13:50. That's the same roar as Man-Bat from Batman: The Animated Series.
Dipper was struggling to express his feelings to Wendy because he was afraid of how she might react. I know the feeling all too well.
Imagine being 6-7 yrs old watching this episode and seeing the shapeshifter.
You’d probably have nightmares for weeks
