+loricikk17 The sound on this album is probably not considered "real hip hop" by purists. But look at albums like 808 and heartbreak and Yeezus for example. For the most part hip hop heads shit on 808. It turned out to be a huge pivotal point in hip hop and influenced a wave of new rappers. Same thing with Yeezus. The grungy, in your face, abstract sound is influencing people like Travis Scott. Again people for the most part shit on Yeezus but don't realize the influence it's going to have on future artists. This album was Travis Scott's own interpretation of that new sound that many people still do not appreciate.

    • @loricikk17

All i hear is sound sound and again sound. What about the things that make rap different than other genres: flow, rhymes and message. Yes I agree that the production is good but there is no message in those kind of albums. Basically instrumental albums and some gibberish on top.

Dear comment section: Stop using Fantano's opinion as a barometer for validation. Form your own opinions, if you like something don''t start hating it because Fantano gave it a 3/10 and vice versa. This album is great but IMO birds is not a 3. I mean it's not as good as Rodeo but it's still at least a 7, if not more. Fantano is good at encapsulating his opinion and backing it up with reasons but that doesn't mean those reasons are constantly gospel, they are his perspectives. See things from your own perspective, listen to it and pay attention if you care about the music, take stock of what you like and what you don't, form a basis of your own taste instead of trying to match it up against someone elses for validation. This applies whether you are listening to a panda bear album or a travis scott album.

I've said it since the beginning. With guys like him and Young Thug, they aren't just your regular rappers, or even vocalists. You gotta look past the regular mold of a successful artist to appreciate what they bring to the table. They paint these pictures with these overall aesthetics they can achieve with their vocals in unison to the production they enlist for their projects. It's like their voice just another instrument in the production.

It’s crazy reading these comments now only from four years ago. Travis has became an insanely large artist ever since then (not that he wasn’t already) and the amount of success he’s had since this album dropped, is unreal. This album is still one of the best modern rap albums created

It might be different, it might be even better, but theres nearly no way that anyone else can cultivate the kind of image & vibe that rodeo has cultivated whilst making it just as good. Its just too unique imo...i think its because people just decided to leave the whole “dark vibes” to artists like travis & others.

T.I. is the narrator of the story, that's what his vocals were for. He wanted it similar to Kid Cudi's Man on the Moon 1 like when Common did the same thing on some of those tracks. He's a huge Cudi fan so it made a lot of sense to have someone who gave him a record deal and put him on his label on here
