What a great tutorial , thank you ! I just follow yours guide to upgrade stack of 2 WS-C2960X-48TD-L and everyting was just perfect at life scenario :) . God loves the braves
Nice video. Question: Does the switch maintain its configurations through the upgrade (VLANs, LDAP, etc) or does it need to be reconfigured as though it’s a new switch?
That is correct. Configuration remains in flash and gets loaded in ram. For a firmware upgrade if you are making a huge jump, some commands may not work. Vlans are in a different file so yes running config remains unchanged.
I have upgraded thousands of Cisco switches during an ISE deployment project. 1st day of that project one 3750x didn't come back up after the upgrade. That changed everything. Since then we added an extra step. Pre-upgrade reload to rule out HW issues. Once the switch came back up from that reload, we proceeded with ios upgrade. Are you afraid that the switch might not boot back up after so many days of running ? Let me know
If you have the switches configured and connected, stack can be built using SSH as well. In most cases this is done during 1st setup process, hence mostly done using console. I build the base config, build the stack and mgmt ip using console, then I blast rest of the config using SSH as it goes in faster this way. Hope this helps .
If Cisco has .tar file you can do the upgrade with archive command. If only .bin file is available then copy command to copy the file and then boot system command to point to new image in flash. They both should take the same file for being in 2960X series. @@TwT101 Appreciate your quick reply with pointing links as well, thanks. But the 2 switches I mentioned are stacked together(different models of 2960x series stacked). Both have different .bin/.tar file.
@Arul Prakash L If they are stacked they must have the same ios version may that be just the .bin file or the .bin file in the directory. You can use the archive process and it will remove the old directory and upgrade your switch. it will not be able to remove the old .bin file if it was installed by copy command. you can email me the dir flash administratorattutorials and tips dot com.
Use Cisco's context sensitive search, for example "boot system ?"And see if you have rest of the options. I haven't upgraded that model. If this is a managed Enterprise switch and not small business model then it should work. Let me know.

Love you comment AhmadNawid. Doing UA-cam video has somewhat became my passion because of comments like this. Time gets in the way. Planning to do exactly what you asked for Aruba Wireless both to help people get certified and get an overall knowledge of deployment. Thanks again
No specific issues I know off. I have been upgrading 3750x around the world remotely. In some cases I have upgraded them from 12.2 version to 15.2.4E10 w/o issue.
@@TwT101 Thank you, I used your steps and it worked great. Can you do another step by step for upgrading the cisco ASR920 with steps to include ROMMON upgrade as well?
Please help! my 3750X Cisco switch is stuck in rommon I believe. I accidentally deleted the iOS on it so it only shows "Switch: " prompt and I need help reinstalling the iOS on it.
Load the ios .bin file on a USB. Plug the usb and load from the usb to your switch. Use boot command to boot using the new image. administrator at tutorialswithtips dot com if you need anything else.
Thank you.im south korean engineer. I had been installed my customer location for 8 years and will upgrade soon. very good youtube video

I have 3750X Stack and its live environment, I worried if I upgrade IOS it might break. Do you have any advise.

thanks, and what ist different between tar and bin file?
In short tar is a zip file that has other packaged files which get installed. Also doing it this way also sets your boot parameters.
great video and also very good explanation how to upgrade software on it
Hi When will you show us upgrade Cisco 3750X stack with two switches?
Hi there. We have a manual and archive upgrade process explained for 3750x stack in this video. Please rewatch and let me know if you understand.
i always wish to see more vedios as you have better way explaining and nice easy voice ....!!!
Well I truly appreciate your comment. I am planning on doing some aruba mobility videos soon. So stay tuned.
Is this done using console connection
