I have td-17 and strike module, I really want this module badly!!! Just played one last week and it sounds phenomenal to me. I bought Yamaha dtx560 kit few weeks ago complete for only 400$ this new module will be excellent upgrade for that kit

After having acoustic Yamaha Stage Customs for a number of years, I moved onto Yamaha's electric series drums. First was the DTXplorer, then buying upgrades, cymbals, high hat, snare & toms especially modules. First was the DTX500, followed by the 502 which was considerably a better module. The only original components from the Xplorer is the rack & kick pad. I bought the DTX-Pro module back in January and I must admit, I'm very impressed! 6 months have gone by now and I finally have all my custom kits tweaked and set where they sound just as good as my Stage Customs. This is my first attempt after some module tweaking using the iRig 2 and my iPhone. I had the volume settings for the tambourine a little higher than I wanted but what the heck. This was fun! Components I'm using now: DTX-Pro module, XP100 for the snare, 3 - XP80's for toms, RHH135 Hi Hat, 3 - PCY135 cymbals, KP65 kick pad. Note, if you're using a 3 zone tom for your floor, plug it into port 14. This will give you your 3 zones. 3 zones not applicable on other 2 toms. Did it really take you six months to get the sounds where you wanted them to be? Why so long? And did you sample some of your own drum sounds?
@@williamperri3437 Hi William. Yes, it took me about 6 months off and on playing with different settings, layering capabilities because there are so many options to choose from. Once I thought I had one custom kit done to my liking, I changed it again. I listened to different acoustic drum and cymbal samples from companies like Yamaha, DW and others as well as Zildjian, Paiste and Sabian here on UA-cam. I then try to mimic those kits on the Pro which is time consuming but so worthwhile. However as my wife says, I'm never satisfied. I hope this helps.
@@dakasis Thank You! Yes that helps. I almost forgot about layering and velocity... You know I've heard from quite a few people that even the 502 module which is probably 10 years old is capable of sounding great with the correct layering and velocity... I actually saw a few videos that proved that. I also went to the music store and played the 502 a few times a couple years ago my recording myself and the playback sounded pretty phenomenal comparing it to my td-11 frkm Roland. I do know one thing it was not intuitive whatsoever and that's why I never bought it. The Roland module you didn't even need a manual but I'm sure Yamahas made this module much easier to work with. Did you watch the Simon Edgoose instructional video from last year on the Dtx 6? It is phenomenal and about 45 minutes.
@@williamperri3437 I’ve watched all of Simon’s videos and found them to be very informative and helpful. Most of what I’ve learned over the years has been from having previous lower end modules and playing with whatever settings were available with that particular module.

I have the updated DTX6k3-x kit with all TCS silicone pads, full-size hi-hat stand, and the improved cymbals and kick pad. I've had it for 3 years now and I love it. If I had any criticism of DTX kits it would be about the hi hat cymbal response. It's sometimes literally hit or miss whether the hi hat will respond as you expect it too. It seems to work best with their hi hat stand, too. I've tried a 2 legged Yamaha hi hat stand, to accommodate a double kick pedal, but the cymbals don't seem to respond well on other stands.

@@lifebeautiful6309 The real reason for this is that the Yamaha cymbals want to be struck at or near the "Yamaha" logo on the cymbal pad. Until I adjusted down the clamp beneath the hi hat pad, it had a tendency to rotate and I would miss the "sweet spot". It's working very reliably now ! I'm sorry if I dissuaded you in any way. I love my DTX kit !
Great module sounds
Absolutely love my DTX pro kit!!!!!! I also own a Roland td-17 kit, I’ve tested the Roland pads on the Yamaha and they work great with slight settings adjustments. IMO the single zone TCS toms on the most expensive dtx6 kit are not worth the price increase. They are still single zone like the rubber pads and slightly smaller playing surface. They are slightly less noisy than rubber pads but not much for the price. I bought an older dtx560 used for 400$(very good deal) and used dtx pro module for 560$ and basically got the top of line dtx 6 kit except I had KP-65 kick drum tower and the older 4 post rack design. I’m selling my 7” TCS Tom pads and using my Roland pdx-8 pads as my toms instead. I bought used 12” TCS snare on reverb for 150$ and 15” ride for 110$. It’s a phenomenal playing and sounding kit with my upgrades
So Roland Mesh heads for the Toms, Yamaha Silicone snare head but bigger from an older series and it feels awesome?

I have the DTX Pro Module and it has a LOT of sound / Voice / layering etc. options. The included kits are meh, but spend a bit of time tweaking and you can create pretty good user kits. I sent a lot of review info on SImon's Yamaha youtube page. Also the KP90 is a wonderful kick pad, but it has some querks too . . . Patience, tweaking and time pay off. Would LOVE a video showing clear procedure for adding samples, for example, each instrument has 10 voices at various velocities and how to do that correctly and place them would be awesome. Yamaha doesn't even have a good video on that!!

@@franciscodelorbe6683 On the module is a L/Mono and Right OUTPUT . . . use any 1/4" guitar cable and put into the input of your amp. Turn down Master Volume on module and Master Volume on Amp . . . slowly bring them up to level you want.
That’s what I was saying Bill. Spend time with the module, learn what it can do for you and you’ll be more than satisfied with the results. The new KP90 kick pad blows the old 65 out of the water. I love how sensitive it is.
Great job, as per usual. I love me some acoustic drums, but would definitely want to see more electronics, especially sample pads.

This kit is awesome! I upgraded mine a bit to have a 12” DTX snare and a 15” ride. Best purchase I could have made outside of a Roland TD-27
I work at a music store and play lots of different e-kits, but I bought the dtx 6 kit and I love it. Great deal for about a grand.

I have had a few months to work with my DTX6KX now and get some production in as I dig deeper into fine tuning of the module to achieve more of what I want from it. Sorting thru the navigation maze each day I get a little more familiar with the workings. Since I have no experience with other E-drum sets I'll hold my criticism of it's short comings. I just want to focus on a current issue that is absolutely causing me insanity. I am currently working on a fairly large production tune that has a wide spectrum of drum parts. I'm satisfied with the pad tones and the snare tone is where I want it. Playing the entire kit is nice and full, but here's where the problem lies. There are four verses to this song and the drum parts written for the verses are played snare & bass drum only in a military-marching band type arrangement and it sounds great. But as simplistic as the snare parts are, they are fairly intricate to the part and the song. Here's my problem...as these parts transition in & out of the verses they go from tap notes to buzz rolls to 32nd straight rolls and so forth. Somewhere within the gain and velocity settings I can get a decent tap note/buzz roll result but when the part transitions dynamically into the straight roll that's where the problem is. The straight roll is played with more power and the notes become a non-distinguishable mess. In using different setting combinations I can get decent straight roll, but that setting then is not conducive to the more subtle tap & buzz roll notes. I would like to think there is a setting within this module that will allow me to achieve this and that I just haven't stumbled onto it yet. I have some user programs I'm really happy with, so I'm not real excited about doing a reset. Otherwise...I'm open for any suggestions. That is at the top of my list...but there is another issue that I have come across that I wanted to ask you about. The snare pad is suppose to have two separate settings, Head & Rim. But I have not been able to get separation in either volume or actual head/rim range. Any thoughts or suggestions here?

Super thorough review - as per normal. Minor comment - recent videos seem a bit dark? I often view these on screens I use for image editing so they're colour accurate and calibrated - this video particularly seems quite dark and bit under exposed? Just thought I'd drop that out there in case it helps when editing etc.
As always though, can't fault your content - best stuff out there.
Let's just call it an aesthetic choice.

the module is a huge step up from the dtx5 series i've got now. i'd buy this just to get the module and build a bigger kit. you gotta tell me about the speakers you've got mounted. does yamaha still sell that amp system?
Im new to electric kits, have €1000 set aside for one and I’ve found the Yamaha kits have the best sound but I wondering if it’s possible to change to Tom pads to something better down the line, is that possible.
What about the noise situation, Are pads noisy? Aside from space that's an important matter on edrums

More revelations...I'm trying to find the video that directly relates to one of my issues...meanwhile I'll keep looking and posting and maybe something will pop up. I have the basic DTX6K-X but it does have the TCS 3-Zone snare pad. I believe this to mean I should have three different zones on the pad which I can create three different settings and parameters for. Although I have been able to identify each of these zones...Head...OP Head/Rim...CL-Rim. When struck, they all sound as designated but I have yet to discover how or where to create the individual parameter setting options. There's a section for rim level and head/rim balance but these have no affect on the pad. Is there some secret switch somewhere I have overlooked that activates this option? It just seems like the further I dig into this enormous MAZE of configurations the more complicated it becomes. I would really like to take advantage of the potential of this unit...but I just want to get some tracks recorded before I DIE! Does it really have to be this complicated?
Been looking at Alesis kits. Theyre very cheap which is worrying, also heard the mesh heads are not great. So id rather spend the extra money on this

Can I upgrade the Hi Hat? With a hi hat stand?
i took these home 2 weeks ago and ended up returning them .....there was a cymbal lock missing out of the box and the ride cymbal was horrible in terms of picking up the lighter stick work. Although i did like a lot of the sounds on the module.it just didn't make the grade for me when compared to the similarly priced td17. i picked up a demo td17 kvx for 1180- a hundred less then the entry level and the Roland has dual zone mesh pads all the way around and a 12 inch snare. i also though a lot of the factory kits were not practical for many applications or in a live setting. Most of the fun is trying to create your own sounds anyways....the bop groove on the Yamahas were probably one of if not my favorite kit. They have a levee breaks kind of an effect . anyways hope this helps anyone trying to decide between the two.

To answer your question...e-hats are garbage. Even on higher end Roland/ATV kits, it does not feel like a set of acoustic hats. You will have to change your playing style on an e-kit. So, I use a set of Agean low volume hi-hats with my Roland kit. A little more set-up for practice but worth it. Look into a Roland TD-17kvx. Great pads and you get the Roland upgrade packs to buy from third-party sites that “model new sounds” that you can play. Plus, Roland drums LAST. They are workhorses. Yamaha will not last you. I still use Roland pads I bought back in 2013, best triggering.

I just got approved for buying an e-kit from one of your competitors. However! I'm still going to buy some components from y'all. I think the Yamaha module sounds 300 times better than any Roland module.

Do not use a double bass pedal with this kit, not enough surface area on the pad to get a clean sound with both beaters.
Won't agree, using DW3000 double pedal with it and yes, it's a bit hard to align them to have clean sound, but not impossible

Mesh heads are unquestionably, objectively better; the only reason Roland and other electronic drum manufacturers still use rubber pads is because they're cheaper to make. There's a reason they are only featured on lower-end kits, there's just no good reason to use them apart from cutting the price. Louder, don't trigger nearly as well (suffer from hotspotting), don't feel as acoustic-like, just to name a few reasons.
I dislike the feel of mesh heads. Too much rebound. Silicon, imo, is preferable in terms of feel : performance.
@@adamfrost8417 It highly depends on the quality and type of mesh head as well, I wouldn't dismiss all mesh heads if you've only tried a few. 1-ply heads like the Remo Silentstroke typically don't feel very good, but 2 to 3-ply heads like the drum-tec real feel or Roland powerply feel very good. Yamaha's coated silicone pads feel great too, but it's proprietary and I believe patented just like the mesh heads used to be.
Mesh pads are vastly worse for hotspots
@@bilhamcobbly2957 On the lower-end kits that Simmons and Alesis sell, sure. On nicer kits not at all. I've had a Strike Pro for 2 years, no hotspot issues on that and Alesis aren't exactly known for robustness or very high-quality.
