This is the coolest damn car I have seen in a long long time... I am 80 yrs old and have seen a lot of cars in my life. We had a 51 Caddy .. I remember the brake pedal looked just like the one in this car. Details stuck in the folds of my brain . This hearse would make a fine nomad camper .
Epic biuld, I was also having issues with getting angled cuts also. A few things that I found helped, 1. Put the plasma ground lead directly onto the material your cutting. 2. Slow the cutting speed. 3. Lower the air pressure / volume coming out of the nozzle.
I've always wanted a classic Cadillac hearse. They just have a fantastic shape to them. I always thought, "Hey, wouldn't it be cool to get an old one and fix it up?" And here you are doing it. It's a lot of work, but it looks like you've definitely got the right tools and expertise for the job. Really looking forward to seeing how this one turns out.
I must say you are really going all out on that hearse. That was made in 1950 just like me. I have been watching your videos on this project and am really impressed with your work. Thanks for the video
I hope this new year is super for you and your family. I'm looking forward to seeing whats happening in the garage this next year. Thanks for inviting me .
Another great video. You make me snot bubble everytime I watch . I thought I was the only one who talked to him self. Hope the New year brings you and yours good health and happiness
Wow, what an undertaking! I really enjoyed watching the series on this hearse. Anxious to see how it turns out. Bless your patience and determination. Thanks for video, you have some talent there. Nice to see an actual car restoration where you actually work on the car!
You’re definitely not scared to give anything a go you cut whatever off and remake it. You’re the man like your work and your videos and with that to hurst as well.
Thank you. Once you recognize that it’s just a piece of metal, you sort of lose your fear of cutting stuff. This project is a little slow going. But I’m still hoping to drive this thing to Michigan in September.
You are a super ingenious fellow. I'd love to see a run down of your work experience. Obviously, that's a long list. Thanks for this channel and I have no doubt that the Hearse is going to be awesome.
In high school during the 1970s van conversion craze, I almost talked my dad into letting me buy a 1938 Packard hearse. It was huge like your Caddy and I wished it had become a reality. Best wishes on your project.
I know there is much to say about hard work but I know as I get a little older I try to work smarter than harder, with that said I think a nice little ATV winch with a remote control would suite you nicely for dragging cars in to your garages. Greg
Outside cuts on a plasma table should be cut clockwise so the scrap goes to the right side of the direction of the torch and your inside cuts should go counterclockwise that is why you're seeing the "bevel" on your cuts. I backed up and watched to verify that's what was happening. I program these every day, so if you want to reach out to me it's cool
@Theoldironworkshop Yeah man, you'll always have kerf but if you do your outside cuts clockwise and inside cuts counterclockwise the good side of your cut will be on your piece.
There are two basic types of cut edge angularity with Plasma cutting that tell a story: 1. Relatively similar angularity on all four sides of a rectangle. This means that the torch and consumables are likely in good shape. You can minimize the angularity by adjusting your height control lower, however with an air plasma (even a good one) you will not completely eliminate angularity. 2. If the angularity varies with parallel angles on opposite sides, then you either have a torch that has some air flow concentricity issues, a poorly designed torch, or you have damaged consumables from piercing too close or with inadequate pierce delay time. By rotating the torch 90 degrees you can check if it's the torch. Otherwise the issue lies with the airflow or consumables.
* Friends ... Never there when you need em always there when you don't . Computerized plasma cutter ... Fancy ! Anyway Good Update. Yea, Fat Boy makes good stuff. So does Morrison. Nice to see Mabel go inside. Envy your weather. It's 23° here in Michigan. Luv the cup. Thanks for all the work you put in just to entertain us for free ... "Sucker" 👊😎👍 The Ricky Richardo music had me smilin' . Happy New Year to You and The Family. Later Man !
Great project love watching the fab work, you have a great home shop set up probably not all the tools you want but what you need. keep up the good work can't wait till it's done ( is it ever really done) 😂
i had a caddy hearse 1966 M+M. 1st motor i put in it was a 429. next motor was a chevy 350 with trans. choppd the back off up to the slider windows, built a flatbed on it license branch made me title it as a truck. i calld it a chevolaic
I always thought that a Cadillac Flower car made into a truck, would be cool. I saw one at a car show that was made into a motorcycle hauler. It had a matching old Harley.
It’s hard to hate on that front end. My 1991 Ford transit is real simple to hate on, it’s a beam axel. (The very last year) but that one actually looks right :o) I’ve modded my burnt out 4x4 winch to work on a battery drill. I made a stumpy drive shaft. So if you see one for dollar it’s worth grabbing.
Just to say thank you, there's none to many channels around these days that keep it real and don't sell out to promoting mens ball bag shavers to some green drink shit, well not at the moment anyway. Im from England where they call a rust stain a restoration project, not only that we have nothing to compare with you guys when it comes to cars. That cemetery taxi is the reason i found you, it awesome as you guys would say. Laters cupcake. Gary 🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thank you. People hit me up to sell stuff for them occasionally. If it’s something I can use and work it into a video without being obnoxious I’m ok with it. Someone sent me a welder to try. So that’s not a bad thing. A company was wanting me to rep some Fine Italian furniture the other day. I thought it would be fun to turn a $2000 recliner into a go cart and race through the streets. But ended up passing on it. Wife didn’t want me dead

if your using cold rolled steel plate it's going to warp like a mfer. Get 1020 Hot rolled steel plate it should help. you can take your parts to a Blanchard Grinding shop to re-flatten them. If your already using Hot Rolled steel plate that's been normalized .look up blanchard grinding videos on you tube so you can see the process . hope this helps . if your code is a straight line, your plasma cutter is cutting in a straight line the steel is distorting from heat build up as it's cutting. I have seen 2" thick steel plate distort from being burned out to a shape just like your doing . Usually you order thicker steel than you need to allow for the material removal from the blanchard grinding processto bring the piece to finish thickness. Hearse is awesome.
Love it. Although I wouldn't go with the 318. Way too small to haul that tank. It probably weighs twice what a suburban does. Get a 454. THAT should move it along nicely! :)
Now I realize that there is amazingly little rust on the body of this beautiful and scary monster. I guess that is the advantage of a southern car that lived far from the coast.

Pretty sure this car sat behind a gas station here on Long Island for many years. I looked at it and dreamed of restoring it, but watching this video makes me realize that that would have been a terrible idea.
Could have saved some work and fitted a Jag Xj front crossmember and suspension to the original frame. Cheap, with big disc brakes, from a good handling full sized sports sedan. Also flat, so easy to fit.

Ask Allen the Wizard who works for Sparks Motors aka Diesel Brothers about your plasma table problem. He is a genius.
This would make a nice Panel Truck by welding sheet metal over the windows to line up with the body panels or a Nomad.

Well, that might be the weirdest reason. Are you referring to my vans? Or my Ugg slippers. Safety is always of the highest concern around here.
Impressive amount of kit you have! Oh and that project, and of course your skill, not to mention your cojones 😂 👌
Either cojones or just not that smart, perhaps a combination of the two
Looks like those brakes were a piece of cake. I’ve never seen anyone do that in 30 seconds. 😮

Have you thought about using a Crown Victoria front cross member and suspension? Might just work. Disc brakes a rack and pinion.
I looked for one. But they are too wide.
slow but sure keep it low looks good on the ground
Ha ha, working on drum brakes sure makes you appreciate the simplicity of disc brakes.
Yes it does!
Fascinating series of videos. Why was there a chain welded to the motor mount? Was this not the original engine?
No, motor was replaced at least once. the chain was probably there because the Motor mount was brazed not welded I guess
Love the car & your way of making vids. Keep it up.
PS Silver roof?
I thought I heard some bones crackling when you moved the hearse? 😂
