We were originally given very little time and in fact the incentive was almost cut entirely due to schedule slips but ultimately we were asked to demonstrate a human playing and our total content time ended up being about 10 minutes. I'm considering making a condensed version.

I feel like DwangoAC is the most wholesome gamer I've ever encountered. He is fantastically charismatic, and a wonderful representative of what is good about the community.

I was hopeing they would do at least a few levels to showcase it more.

They were talking up this TASBot like it some kind of new technology, but I don't really get how it's different from any other TASBot? This just looks like a typical TAS run of a hard level. Were they making a joke I didn't get? Is there something new and exciting about this that I'm missing?

TASes usually need to be written in a very perfect emulator and then exported to be verified, so they need to be on very old well emulated systems like NES SNES GB. This is a TAS verified on a Switch.

1st: you need to make sure the switch recognizes the controller and its inputs, find the right way to store and send those inputs and whatever im not an expert in it but
2nd: sync. it is really REALLY important to make sure the inputs are being sent as the exact same rate as the switch reads them, and make sure it can go around any problem that comes in the way between the 2 machines
its all complex stuff, and honestly im probably saying it in a bad way, its better to rely and what they said in the video, or research yourself

From what they were saying about it, it seems to me like TASing on Switch was previously impossible, because they couldn't get the timing perfect and the TAS would desync. With the new system everything works as expected, and considering the problems they've been running into trying to do this, this breakthrough is a big deal.

So, TASbot is special in the TAS community, because its used for console verification. Most TAS's are created on an emulator that lets you save the current state, revert to a saved state, and advance frame-by-frame. These can make a run that works perfectly in an emulator impossible on an actual console (mostly due to consoles not accepting input every frame)
That's what makes this run so special: it's the first console verification of a TAS on a Switch!! As DwangoAC mentions, there were a handful of tools to enter input into a switch, but nothing frame-perfect enough for these tricks. There also isn't a Switch emulator yet so they had to guess for each input (no frame-by-frame or save states).
edit: rip so UA-cam said no one had responded to this before but there are like a hundred response

TASing itself is extremely complicated and most things it's impossible to TAS. Like PC games you can't TAS and the majority of games are very hard to TAS since you need specific ways to manipulate rng. Some games need to boot a specific way to reset rng, some base off other external factors and some are easy in that its based on timings that you enter a level. Another thing is often you can get a desync if the inputs arent being sent at the exact frames.
I have a tiny bit of experience in macros and tasing and the amount of times stuff can lag or desync is astounding. Stuff like this takes months and months of collaborated efforts and seeing something like this on a Nintendo Switch is so impressive
