It's because he sees muay Thai like a ufc fighter, not like a Thai. If he lives in Thailand for a year and gets immersed training with Thais he won't get caught like that again. Just my opinion. I said it years ago when Rodtang was tuning him up. We say "play muay Thai" but this guy is too serious. Watch Superlek train, he's just having fun.
He didn’t walk into that elbow. He got caught in it. Superleks moniker “kicking machine” is a misnomer. He said it himself, his best weapons are his elbows.
All do respect, Superlek just knocked out Haggerty with an elbow that he would've seen coming if he understood the playful side of muay Thai. When we talk in Thai about doing muay Thai, we say "play muay Thai". I said this a few years back, but Haggerty has to take a break from his UK gym and live in Thailand for a year. Get immersive. Learn to see muay Thai like Thais do. It's a game.
You can see how Thai fighters practice on the pads, with precision and timing (sometimes at a slower pace). A lot of British fighters just go hard and aggressive on the pads. It looks cool, but in the end, the timing and precision wins.
As someone who just finished a camp in Thailand. I appreciate the raw honesty and insight you provide here. Also doing 10 x 4 min pad rounds is crazy. I gas out after 2 mins of the 2nd round lol.
