this is very good information, thanks! for people who have problem with arched back, try do the deadlift squat (without bell) very close to wall. fingers pointing down when you squat you should feel the entire arm parallel to the wall. i did this today in front of a mirror and then again sideway close to a mirror. (this cue is taken from Pavel's enter the kettlebell DVD)
Thank you very much for the video. I have been using a very small (6.8 kg, 15 pound) cast iron bell and getting a mild lower backache from it. I think the reason might that I am bending at the knees and I am not using my hips and waist properly. On the other hand I am also a beginner at this, an older guy, and somewhat out of shape so maybe I need to reasonably expect minor backache for a little while longer. But I'll start driving the bell with my hips more.
you prolly dont care but if you are bored like me during the covid times then you can stream pretty much all the new movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Been binge watching with my gf recently xD
If any of you wants to learn how to use a kettlebell should search about Girevoy Sport. Kettlebells aren´t a tool to train, they are more than that and we should respect the ancient lifters. Learn the best of it, learn Girevoy Sport from a Girevik and a recognized organization.
Great video. Thinking of training with Kettle bell instead of going to a body building gym, looking to get lean instead of the mass I am carrying as a ex rugby player. What should be looking at to buy
i would also recommend using your heels as the base and not your toes... i understand the jump squat as a prerequisite for the swing... but then you might prime someone to use the toes to lift... it all starts at the heels. great video
I wished I watched this video a couple of months ago, I bent knee far too much [mistake #2] and caused damage not helped by my excessive weight. Knees getting better I think, I hope. Certainly taught me a lesson.
This is a great exercise because there are a lot of standing to overhead weight movements that occur. Without this coordinated movement, it's a lot harder to get the weights up therefore not reaching maximal potential. I find doing ground hipthrusters is also great but with super heavy weight. Doing that only w/o the proper kettle bell swing will not grant instant motor skills for proper forward hip drive when standing up. I find the arms will want to take over instead but now because of the hips coming into play, the weight fly up easy. I don't use 2 hands on the kettlebell but one hand each and switching it while it's in the air. The weight won't shoot forward away from you if you do it right. It will just go up and hang for a bit. Enough for you to switch hands to grip it on the way down. If you are also doing it right it won't get thrown all the way behind you so it teaches good not to be lazy grip too.
I know I wasn't doing all the mistakes here but I also realise I wasn't doing it exactly like they were showing it should be done. I suppose it helps to practise in a mirror too.
Or placing your tablet / phone on a stand and taking a video. It's not the same as a mirror as you can't watch and correct in real time, but it's a pretty good aid
It looks like most of the bad form is from using a KB that is too heavy. I use a ten lb with 2 lb wrist weights. High reps, excellent form. At 59 I’m looking the best ever.
HeSaidSheSaidMv It's based more on where the weight is actually being supported. Supporting the weight with your muscles is good, but allowing the the back to arch, shifting the stress directly to the spine is where damage occurs. This particular movement has a lot of major similarities with deadlifts, so it's not exclusive to kettlebells.
***** It's really important to focus on your form. Done incorrectly, I agree it's one of the easiest ways to screw up your lower back. However, done correctly, it's one of the best exercises to strengthen your erector spinae muscles, which when strengthened, provide that much more ability to keep your spine straight (and safe) during these exercises.
You use your trunk muscles to stabilize the spine and the glutes and hamstrings to do the swing and deadlift. If you do them correctly, should be no pain unless you have previous injury or imbalance
dude, sorry but you are not all that ripped of a guy. maybe you should focus on other areas in life. with the way you look being a fitness guy is not your thing.
this is very good information, thanks!

Very in depth and well done. Thanks for this.
I was using bad form which would create a very bad burn in my low back. Now I know how to fix this! Thanks.
Thank you for this great video. This what I needed to learn how to do the kettlebell swing with a good thechnique
This is good, thanks. Gives me a couple things to watch for, especially arching my back.
Great tips there! Started using kettle bell this week ..

Glad I watched this. I bend in my knees too much
OK, thank you a lot for the video, very good advices. Now I understand more. I'm a begginer so I have to learn from 0. Greetings from Poland.

@Bryson Jamir yup, I've been watching on InstaFlixxer for since november myself :)
@Bryson Jamir Definitely, have been using InstaFlixxer for years myself :)

Thanks for showing me some of my common mistakes!
Same... ;)
I don't arch the back but I do the rest of them, LOL
i would also recommend using your heels as the base and not your toes...

Good! Someone that knows what their doing.
Good stuff guys!
I find this really helpful as I am starting to use kettle bell soon (8kg)

good stuff and great info meng
I did this for the first time yesterday and couldn't help but arch my back. The technique is tougher than it looks.
Good tips :)
What muscles are being worked out with all these exercises?
Nick's like "Ok next time you're doing all the work!"
Good stuff men. Thanx, i just bought a kettlebell... And remember... Da more reps da bettah. Haha
wow nice spinning room
dead on!
What does the swing actually do for you? Hams, some quads, cardio?
They're pretty good for you if you sit in a chair a lot. Glutes and hamstrings exercise mostly. My favorite posterior chain movement
+bob abraham It works your entire posturer chain!!
Al of it
how about using the deadlift instead!?
What about your lower back protection? Isn't the popping not good for your back? Doesn't that popping hurt your lower back?
Thank you! Also visit 99KettlebellWorkouts for some great kbell routines.
At the top of the swing are the knees locking out?
J Harris3 No, they are facing outwards towards you little toes. You want your feet to grip the floor.
I know I wasn't doing all the mistakes here but I also realise I wasn't doing it exactly like they were showing it should be done. I suppose it helps to practise in a mirror too.

"Squeezing his bum"? That's the first time I've heard that usage in American English.
Are they clones?
No... no no... one has a tattoo on his arm. XD Good video though.
Fiddle Bender Could be bothers or relative.
the are twins that were separated at birth. brought together thanks to the power of kettlebells
LMAO
dude looks like elon musk
bedroom practice lol
Sure.... If you want to launch her into orbit!
Ahahahahaha
day luk like the same guy
Isn't he slamming his knees which is not good for them at all..
isn't bending from the waist the absolute worst thing for your back? this is how you hurt your back. why is it different with kettlebell workouts?

DarkApplepolisher Deadlifts are not good for your back.

bracing your abs and squeezing your glutes will protect your back
"overdone"
How about, "foundational"?
should women do the same?
DEFINITELY! proper Kettlebell workouts are some of the best all around fitness workouts you'll ever do! Happy Training!
I'm not comfortable with another man judging another man's hip movement...
pretty sure they're canadian
I bet they hooked up after filming

Bullshit!
Technique is poor, and should not be taught like that.
