Great diag, love the tip to use a mirror under the wire harness! Topdon is the best! the Ib/h is annoying, you can change the setting to metric and it will give you Gr/s but then all the temp is in celsius I really wish they let you change each thing separate... Maybe in the next update😀
Nice review. So glad that you mentioned that Topdon sent you the scanner gratis. Hate U-tube videos of scanner reviews that sound like a marketing presentation by the manufacturer, and never mention the downsides of the unit. Kudos to you.
Congrats on the new tool... Nice thing about it it shows the topology (aka topograph lol) which helps alot to figure out what is up and what is down module wise... And a great diagnosis there... Keep it up man
Congrats with the new tool! The end of the video shows where the wire coating was deteriated and shorted out. So you were right, it was in the back of the manifold. Plus the oil pressure sensor was leaking, so fixed 2 problems. Great work!
I have a launch pad 5 with the smart dongle which doubles as j2534. I haven't done the j box thing yet but the rest of tool is spot on. Some vehicles. That topology fills fast. Some it takes forever
Fantastic new scan tool! Nice diagnostic thought process! If not for the location, it should be an easy fix, but they probably had to replace the leaky oil pressure sensor too :-)
Love my topdon pheonix smart. But like any other scanner, it has its up and downs. I could not scan a 06 toyota and autel scanned it. Others autel has limited functions, and topdon got it done. Regardless, it's an awesome scanner, and it takes a bit to get used to on the menus locations. Good luck. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. 👍
I watched a lot of you guys with your diagnostic videos. I get such a kick out of how you guys get mad when it works before you're ready for it to work. 😂 I get it though
Great videos!! Hoping soon you will put together a video on the pico scope operation. Bought a pico 7 recently and cannot figure out how to clean up the waveforms. Lots of noise on most circuits I test. Thanks. Learning alot from you!!!

Whenever you figure out how to change that pound to Grams let me know my Autel shows the same thing on General Motors and so far. I haven't found the right setting to change it, Doing math in my head is slow., as always I give you a thumbs up
Congrats on the new tool. I feel like Topdon has really been pushing their marketing as of late. Almost all the "Top" youtube auto diagnostic channels have received merch. My personal experience with the smart is overall decent. I feel its a bit overbuilt, almost toy-ish😂. Especially the VCI way to much bling instead of functionality. Vin decoding a bit cheesy, and customer support is just like any other Chinese tool based customer support.. But at least yours was free! Anyway pardon my rant. Lol. Thanks for sharing!
Congrats on the TopDon Jake... Your gonna love it. I picked up the TD Max a few months ago and so far, totally loving it. Great diag with the short to ground. I know the frustration bro. I hate it when I fix something before knowing what's broken. Lol Glad they found the problem and shared it with you. Cheers 😉👍
THAT JOB RIGHT THERE WOULD'VE BEEN FOR ME A SLIGHTLY FRUSTRATING ONE ,,,,, BUT BETTER QUESTION,,, HOW WOULD I DO THAT TEST WITH THE TEST LIGHT AND THE MULTI-METER LOOKING FOR A SHORT . SAY A 5 VOLT REFERENCE SIGNAL CIRCUIT . THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR GREAT ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSTIC VIDEOS I TRULY LEARN SO MUCH YOUR VIDEOS MAKE SO MUCH SENSE TO ME AND I AM SURE TO MANY OTHERS THANKS . 🙏🙏🙏👍
I got a Phoenix smart and I'm not sure if I like it or not. I know it got a lot of features but for what I use it which is mainly domestic cars and trucks I don't think it works too good. Especially older models it does poorly and I often go back to the Zeus which does everything I need. I see they upgraded the flat cable on the VCI to a round one, that's nice. You do need to get the thermal camera for it. Either way, really like your channel. Keep up the good work!!
Very nice. Thinking about getting one too. Let us know if you were able to change the units to grams (dont feel like learning yet another conversion). LOL
I just bought mine. PheonixMax with scope. My experience? It takes hours of updates before you can use it. Then the scope wouldn't communicate. Turns out the scope itself was new hardware that the scantool could'nt recognize. Had to wait 2 weeks to use the scope due to software update not being available at the time. Which in my opinion isn't right. Why would sell your/scantool bundle with a scope thats not ready to use. Then once that got figured out i had a vcmi that would intermittently stop communicating. Then one day it stopped altogether. So of course. Had to go to multiple sources to find someone who can help. And it turns out there was an update for that also. But it doesnt come up in the list of udates when you look. So it was a hidden task you have to know how to look for. Either way the first month of ownership was really bad. Lately its been great. But talk about a bad first impression. I still dont like that the vcmi takes a long time to turn on. And you have to wait for that to turn on before you can connect to it. So there overall time from connecting to vehicle to actually using the scamtool is long. My Launch connects in seconds. As far as the scope? It is very unintuitive to use. The Autel scope is very intuitive in comparison. Even when you're trying to pinch to zoom on the waveform the delay is so bad that it's hard to get the pinch to zoom to zoom where you actually want it.
Great video as always! I was wondering where you get the test lights with the stack-able connections. Do you make them? Or can you buy them already made? Thank you for the videos. I really enjoy seeing different methods & ideas. Makes us all better when knowledge is shared.
Does anyone know if this scanner will tell you if the starter circuit is commanding on/off? I've got a dodge caravan giving me fits. I have one coming just wondering if it was worth getting for the caravan's constant electrical problems.
Jake, I love the content of your videos and those of Ivan from Pine Hollow, It is always a learning experiance in troubleshooting. That green and black shirt you seem fond of, is that your uniform or is that a team shirt when you were on a bowling league? Our team had a shirt simular to that and now I wear it around the house when doing yard work. But anyway your videos are a great source of knowledge and understanding the fine points.
From what I've seen, the topdon and the thinktool pro are very similar if not virtually clones of each other, and the same goes for xtool being virtually a clone of autel.
POWERSTROKE , DURAMAX , CUMMINS COMPATABILITY ? FORCED REGEN ? LIVE DATA ?(multiple lines and readouts to compare on the same screen) MODULE REPROGRAMING ? FACTORY REFLASH ?
@autodiagprogramming As these trucks get older , it seems that "as built" reflash becomes somewhat nessessary. Particularly on ford 6.0 & 6.4 thou there are fewer 6.4 left I think . Bi-directional tools are pricy ... just wondering if this one holds par for the above listed make ... compared to IDS & or autel cv .
@autodiagprogramming No argument. It's just that customers don't care ... so reflashing asbuilt is often quicker I think , than explaining that they've misbehaved with their tune , plus for this purpose, I'm just wondering if the cheaper device comes with said software / support .
So Jake, your fancy new tool says you have a "temp control malfunction" (5:46). You sort of ignored that. Then in the end we find out there are wires shorted to ground around the temperature sensor and a bad temperature sensor. Are you thinking maybe you need to understand and have more confidence in this tool than you ordinally thought? Just an observation. Your way above by leaps and bounds on this stuff. Thanks for Sharing! 🙃🙂
Every time I see a Topdon used I see more I don't like. Scan is too slow, no personalization of settings in the data line, menus are clunky. My MS909 is insanely fast and has menus for X,Y axes for scaling and SAE/Metric units ETC. while viewing data. I see Topdon used on newer vehicles with HS Can and it scans all possible modules and is slow. The Autel senses what modules are online at the same time it scans and only scans the ones that are online and will scan 20 modules in about 5 seconds or less. Topdon is too new. I'll buy one someday buy not anytime soon.
Congratulations on the new tool. I wish I have the money to buy a diagnosting device or subscribe to any auto wiring diagram, work could have been easier for me and my lovely father. He will be once again proud of me for the Good development I brought to his career which I inherited. 👨👦🫶🏽
Sweet scanner! Nice diag! Almost NPR 😁👍
I'd like to see a comparison of the topdon and Ivan's thinktool pros.

Good tool ! Maic Salazar uses it when repairing modules, so it's definitely a good tool.
Nice review. So glad that you mentioned that Topdon sent you the scanner gratis. Hate U-tube videos of scanner reviews that sound like a marketing presentation by the manufacturer, and never mention the downsides of the unit. Kudos to you.
Beautiful Jake. Looking forward to seeing it in action. Enjoy that new tool 👍😊😊😊

Great instruction . More of these step by step. Should blow this channel up 👍🏻
I have yet to get my hands on a topdon scanner, but from what I have seen on UA-cam, I am very impressed with them and want to get me one
Thank you for sharing your knowledge, I enjoy watching your videos. God blesse you.
Thank you sir for sharing your knowledge
My wife hates to see them glasses. She loves your pretty eyes. LOL
Another great diagnosis and video! Thanks.

I open many boxes at work. I usually use a key on my keychain to split the tape. If I pulled out a knife like yours, there would be some wide eyes.
Well done Jake, fully deserved mate.
Glad you received a new tool, good luck with it...
Congratulations! The TopDon is next in my list. They look like excellent tools , enjoy !
Dang- your dongle is bigger than my Diagun V.
Hi Jake.Shiny new tool to play with let's see what it has to offer. Cheers.

Where did you get those leads from
You can change the units to metric in the settings then you can change the MAF to grams per second.
Grasias
The cons with the scanner is the graphing
What kind of leads are those?
