  • There are so many amazing sculptures at the Louvre! It can be overwhelming trying to figure out where you should start. Without a doubt you MUST see and experience Winged Victory.
    What has now become a symbol for a nation, this ancient sculpture has some of the most impressive techniques used in history. Winged Victory influenced the design and name of the world famous shoe brand, Nike!

    Thank you, but with all do respect, you kinda missed two facts:
    1. The sculpture is Greek, not French. French archaeologists took it from Greece to France. So its name is not _Victoire de Samothrace,_ which is just the French translation, but "Nike" of Samothrace - it's the Greek Goddess Nike (Victory, Victoire). And it's not recreated, it is the original. They only recreated part of her right wing.
    2. We can't really see the connection because you didnt explained that the (Greek) name of this Greek Goddess, Nike, is translated exactly as "Victory".

    Εγώ είμαι από την Σαμοθράκη εκεί όπου ανοίκει το άγαλμα...το 1836 κάποιος Γάλλος αρχαιολόγος το βρήκε και το έκλεψε
