I am much looking forward to his parts in the later books. His interactions with Claire are a good part of the story intent, even if Jamie does punch him in the eye.

Thoroughly enjoyed the video. John is a true gentleman, and favorite character after Jamie. Thank you for this.

I love Lord John Grey. He is such a wonderful man & loyal friend. David Berry plays him to perfection! I'm so glad that they include him more on the Show since he's often just in written letters in the books -more than in person. I can't wait to see what they're going to show of LJG's story in S7! I think it's in the 8th book the storyline about LJG and Germain helping him as his orderly. I'm hoping we'll get an 8th season to really complete these books at least until the end of book 8, "Halo the house!" Katie, you do a wonderful job with these videos & thank you for making Droughtlander bearable!

Halo the house! Yes absolutely. However, I do hope that Books 9 and 10 (I read the little vignettes of the storyline Diana's left on her blog) and pray (given her writing-speed) that I live long enough to get to the end of Jamie and Claire's lives.
I also want/hope to see William come to terms with the shock of learning who his biological father is. Then fully discovering his glorious heritage and being embraced in the love of his extended family just as Brianna has been.

@@lynda.grace.14 I truly agree! I too read all the books/side books/Diana's Daily Lines and don't want the story to end! But I'm fearing that S7 may be the last season since they're adding another 2 episodes to it (making it 18) and no official announcement yet for S8. I don't know how they're going to fit 2 1/2 books (rest of book 6, 7, & 8) into S7 if that's how they're thinking.

@@vickitoth5165 Well, they can't do that kind of a squeeze without doing serious damage. But the might take a page from the Downton book and plan movies to wrap it up. Movies are cheaper and less of a time commitment for actors who might be wanting to do more than OL. Caesar, for example, has been seriously underused for his talent but the character works better in print than in a medium where storylines and key scenes concerning the principles must be cut, cut, cut at the altar of action.
I suspect that there might be an 8 if the fan response is there. That's what Sam says every time. The fans are where the money is.

@@lynda.grace.14 that would be really terrible if they tried to squeeze everything in to S7. I did see others post about continuing on as a movie like Downton has done or including some of the OL storylines from the books in the LJG spinoff series that's been talked about. That could work. I know that fan response will be there & if Maril Davis has anything to do about it, it will continue on through the book 10!

I'm a recent subscriber Katie & just saw this posting. Thanks for for sharing about LJG & great job BTW. He's one of my fav character after Jamie & David plays the part well. I'm hoping they show more of him in the final season, especially he's easy on the eyes.

Lord John I is my favorite character after Jamie. I think you did an excellent job covering his story within the Outlander universe. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you.

Thanks for this. Well done. Lord John is a fascinating character, though I do tire a little of his eternal unrequited love of Jamie throughout OL and all the LJG books. For anyone who is not a book reader and needs something to float them through Droughtlander, I'd recommend all the LJG books and shorter story collections. The background to the character is deeply insightful as he is as heroic and as astonishingly courageous as Jamie in every sense. His tribulations and triumphs astonishing and the elements of espionage and intrigue gripping. Bonus: you don't have to read 1000 pages, but about 1/2 that in the longest book The Scottish Prisoner.
I wish the Starz version had included 2 key elements from the books. First, when Claire asks Jamie whether LJG might be grooming William because of his strong resemblance to Jamie and LJG's desires. Jamie tells her that had LJG agreed to his offer of his body just before parting from Helwater he would have killed him on the spot because of that very concern. Jamie had nothing left and nothing to lose but his life once he had to leave William--Claire, his country, birthright, his freedom were already gone--but if necessary his last act would be to protect his son.
Second, in the conversation with Brianna at River Run LJG tells her that Jamie had manipulated the situation at Ardsmuir so that LJG had to flog him shortly after his sexual advance to him. This is among the cut scenes from the Ardsmuir episode and would have done much to enhance the TV version. Brianna tells LJG hat there is a reason for Jamie's brutal way of severing their connection but that she is not at liberty to divulge it. That it would be up to Jamie to disclose the reason (his rape & torture at Wentworth) to LJG, not her. However, Brianna reassures LJG that "it's not you."

Good comments on a complicated character. Have read all the LJG books and novellas, and appreciate all the additional insights into John's character. Thanks for your comments.

I would also highly recommend the LJG books/novellas! We really do get to see how much he matches Jamie in courage and honour. And I agree with you whole-heartedly about everything else too, except the unrequited love getting tiresome. I don't think I'll ever tire of John's love for Jamie. I also don't think it's entirely unrequited. The sexual attraction yes, but the love no. I feel like they have this undying friendship, despite it being severely tested at some points, because Jamie sees so much of himself in John, trusts him, and loves him almost as family.
At the end of book 9, their relationship still hasn't fully recovered from the exchange between them after Jamie comes back from 'the dead'. But I think it will soon?.. I am just waiting, praying, for that moment when Jamie feels like he can tell John about Wentworth. (Jamie, please tell Diana that this should happen in book 10).
