I had a very similar experience going to the dermatologist a few months ago. I came to her for my acne, and while I was there, she was constantly shaming me and saying I wasn’t clean, and that’s why I had acne. When I took my mask off, she just cringed and I was on the verge of tears. She said that all my acne scars were unfixable, and I would never get better. I had just gained the confidence to go see a derm but it got shattered in a second. Sending love to anyone who has experienced this 💕 acne can never take away from your beautiful facial features ❤

That is awful I would recommend switching your derm. No health care physician should ever make you feel that way. Ppl like her is what is wrong w/ the health care field. That is so wrong she made you feel that way. I would even consider reporting her. Wishing you well in your journey.

One of the dermatologist i visited passed bad remarks about me too.. it hurt me so bad he kept asking what have u done to yourself as if i did it on purpose.. he just wrote down prescriptions to follow right away without even talking to me or asking about my acne histroy. So unprofessional.

Lavinia, you are a GIFT to this world! I went through this EXACT same journey 30 years ago! 😱 I’m one year shy of 50 (yikes) so my acne flare up started when I was 18. First in the chin and later spreading just like yours did. My skin was just as severe or possibly even worse than yours. Cystic acne, red, inflamed and painful. I think I once counted 75 plus cysts on my face, most so deep and large where sometimes 2 smaller cysts would form ON TOP of an existing cyst.
Hear me out….you WILL clear your acne as I did mine! It is not a quick or easy process but IT IS POSSIBLE! Recording your journey is going to help SO many in your situation plus have others reach out to you that have gone through your experience. My past struggles with cystic acne are what helped me tap into my creativity and perseverance! Let me assure you, you are doing ALL the right things! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
First off, you are your BEST advocate! Getting “advice” by experts or non-experts should always be taken with a grain of salt! Nobody knows YOU better than YOU! Nobody has walked in your shoes or gone through your trials and errors so I COMMEND you for standing your ground when something doesn’t feel right for you! You are also being very wise by trying to narrow down the main cause via process of elimination!
Here’s what I learned on my journey:
    1. The acne antibiotics (tetracycline etc..) DO NOT WORK! In fact, they destroyed my stomach!
    2. Facials DO HELP! When you find the RIGHT esthetician, injecting or extracting cysts helps speed up the process to avoid future scaring or having a textured surface.
    3. Every product you place on your skin (moisturizer or makeup) must say non-clogging for pores. There are certain oils that don’t clog pores so “oil free” doesn’t mean it’s safe for acne.
    4. After trying everything under the sun, I did go on accurate. It did clear my face but my acne came back a couple years later….though it was more on the surface as opposed to DEEP cysts. I went on a second dose but only half the time frame which was MY personal choice bc I realized that the only job accutane does is slow down oil production.
So after my oil production was in better control, I kept up with facials and peelings. Bc the issue with acne is not so much oil production but skin shedding. For whatever reason, acne prone skin does not shed fast enough which is why they clog our pores. So helping shedding production and putting non-clogging ingredients on the skin helped manage everything. The BEST upkeep that helped me prevent future breakouts and FINALLY smooth skin was not only peels and gentle scrubs but microdermabrasion. And that did the trick. Not an overnight fix or cheap solution (microdermabrasion) but overtime, understanding at the very least how acne gets formed by dead skin cells clogging the pores, I learned how to manage the “shedding” as well as protecting any new delicate skin with non-clogging spf and moisturizers.
Goodness, I hope that helps…or at the least encourage your incredible efforts! You are truly inspirational for simply being you! Stay strong beautiful and please keep us posted! Much love!💖

I’ve thought about accutane but it’s so incredibly dangerous for our livers and for women who are thinking about getting pregnant after using it, the liver toxicity spreads to the baby as well. Just FYI

Last year my face became completely clean & clear after years of suffering from acne. But mid summer I started breaking out again & it was so rapid & painful, I got so confused because I didn't change my routine. My entire face got covered with cyctic acne
now I'm just living with them again and not gonna lie there are times where I feel completely confident with my skin & then there are those days where I'm so low mentally but I am trying & that what matters to me now.
Thanks for being there for me & inspiring me 💗

I think the most challenging part of this journey is make people understand that acne is not our fault and it is normal to not have a flawless skin. Ive suffered from pcos acne for about 10 years now, personally i dont think my acne is severe and I have accepted that my acne is a part of who i am but everyone around me keeps reminding me of how problematic my acne is especially my family. Ive tried everything and right now im at the point where im just gonna go for healthy supplements and good skincare (even though i havent found one that can cleared up my acne). Thanks for the acne positivity movement, it really helps me to embrace my acne and my flawed skin.

I feel u so much. Like I feel like people just think it’s always what I eat and it’s not. I try my best to have a good balanced meals and skincare and although it’s slow I’ll stick to it. But ppl just recommend stuff and I’m not asking for their advice bc they just think I eat sugar and that’s it like I avoid it too so it’s so rude that ppl think it’s their business.

I took accutane and a year and a half later my acne returned. I took another course and a year and a half after stopping my acne returned. I’ve heard this happens to many people. It’s not a “cure” as many have said. For me it did not actually address the issue so I HEAR YOU. And I am proud of you for advocating for yourself. You deserve options and opportunities to explore all avenues supported by the doctor you are paying to see. For me, I found I’m allergic to several preservatives I also realized I’m dairy intolerant. Those two things alone helped me clear my acne by 80% 🤍 thinking of you!

I struggle with gut and hormonal acne. I went to a dermatologist a few years he looked at my face with disgust and just prescribed me medications didn't ask about my eating habits or hormonal levels. I started taking sea moss daily, probiotics, fish oil, and cut-out dairy, gluten, soy, and artificial sugars. Making those changes has helped my skin alot. Our family having a long history with acne is an understatement. A lot of our family members have had to do accutane and some multiple times. The most recent one to battle acne was my 17yo daughter. We almost gave up and went to get her on birth control but decided to try one more thing first and it worked! She started Differin (adapalene) at night and her skin purged and she almost gave up but she hung in there and after 10-12 weeks it finally worked! So grateful! She washed and moisturized twice a day and at night would add the Differin before moisturizing. She used CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser and CeraVe Daily Face and Body Lotion. Double cleansing to make sure she removed all of the makeup. She still gets a pimple here or there and uses the Hero mighty patches and now uses Tretenoin .0025% every night and she is able to maintain clear skin except for occasional breakouts. FYI benzoyl peroxide seems to be too aggressive for her skin and makes her breakout. I hope this helps. I had acne too and know how hard it is.

Just what I would expect a doctor to say. I’m so sorry you had to experience something like that. I just wanna hug you. I’ve cried so many times about my acne and there is 100% a way to heal your skin that doesn’t involve accutane. The natural way takes longer but is the long term solution

Hi I’ve been watching your content for a while now. Thank you for bringing such positivity and acceptance to this condition! I’m so sorry you had such a terrible experience with your doctor. They should never have talked to you in that way and should have been more sensitive. I wanted to comment because I’m also a former acne sufferer and I’m currently a PA student. My masters thesis is on acne vulgaris and I wanted to share some helpful tips for what you’re going through.
The treatment combination that the doctor gave you is correct and you should be taking both the oral and topical treatment. Adapalene is a retinoid that can help cell turnover so that your pores don’t get clogged as frequently. The benzoyl peroxide and the oral antibiotic will help decrease the bacteria load on your skin to prevent pimples. Without the oral antibiotic, it’s not going to be enough to decrease P. acnes bacteria. You’re going to take the oral pill as instructed but you need to go slow with the topical treatment. Retinoids are very irritating and can worsen your skin while it’s trying to get used to it. Try once a week and ramp it up to twice a week to three times a week etc. GO SLOW. You have to also be aware of the other products you’re using on your skin because they can be just as irritating on your skin especially when combined with this new topical medication. Expect your skin to start getting a little better by the 4 month mark!
Also, like you, I was very iffy about on either birth control and accutane. Because trust me, there are other options and it sucks that your doctor is basically giving you an ultimatum. Other great options would be medications that lower ANDROGENS which is the main factor in hormonal acne. Whether you have high androgens (PCOS) or increased sensitivity to androgens. Think about getting on either topical Clascoterone or oral spironolactone. I’m currently on 150mg spironolactone once daily and it’s been a game changer. A year later and my skin is still clear while I’m on it. Some adverse effects (as it is a diuretic) include hyperkalemia and dehydration. You MUST NOT get pregnant while on this because it can have teratogenic effects on a fetus. You can avoid the systemic effects by going on topical Clascoterone instead. It’s a new drug that concentrates it’s anti-androgen effects to the area you apply it to. I haven’t tried it personally but the studies have shown great results in reducing acne.
Again, I’m so sorry you are going through this. No one should have to deal with such a debilitating condition that heavily affects your self esteem and mood. There are more options and your acne will eventually respond to something. Remember that it’s your skin and your decision what to do with it! Just remember that skin doesn’t heal overnight. Go slow with the products and medications you use, because your skin and body deserve time to adjust! It might take 4 months or even a year to get to the point where you are happy with your skin, but I’m so glad that you’re continuing to stay positive with this journey! Good luck

This video honestly resonated with me a lot (I’m 23). A medication for something else I needed made me break out so bad the derm said accutane or bust. I decided not to listen, took vitamin B5/zinc/probiotics/fish oil, and cleared it about 80%. I’ve been on birth control and recently switched pills, but the derm pushed spiro which I can’t tolerate. This is a great testimony to hold your group and do what YOU know is best. Doctors aren’t your dad or boss - they’re supposed to be your partner in care. American healthcare cares about covering symtoms and problems, not about the root cause which is a shame. I applaud you for staying true to you.

As someone who has taken accutane and had their acne return, I can say that it isn't worth the side effects. Everything I've been prescribed by the derm has only worked temporarily. Antibiotics, topicals, spironolactone, etc. For a doctor to dismiss that acne isn't an internal issue is mind-blowing. If that's the case, why do some people get acne and some don't? Acne is definitely apart of an internal issue, but derms don't get paid to tell you that. Pharmacies don't benefit from it either. I'm also working to heal my acne holistically because I am tired of the band-aid fixes. So sorry you experienced this! Please keep sharing your journey with us 💕

You are beautiful & your beauty truly radiates from the inside out. You’re acne does not define your beauty. I also suffer with hormonal acne & some times I find myself crying so hard because of it. It truly takes a toll on your mental health 😥 I’ve considered going to a holistic doctor & now I’ve invested in an esthetician.
I take Spironolactone & a few other topicals like Winlevi, aklief & amzeeq. I told my derm I didn’t want to be on the pill any longer & she told me “The pill controls me” it actually creeped me out because I asked her are there any natural options I can take to keep it at bay. Most of these derms will never help outside of prescribing a pill. I’m wishing you well & sending you love on your journey 💜u are not alone

You have to maintain your skin constantly after accutane. Take care of your guts , your hormones by supplements, diet , lifestyle changes if the hormonal imbalance is very much and isn't going away after all those get anti androgen medications, and use tretinoin after isotretinoin. For what i have heard from derm good skincare+ tretinoin= clear skin and if you have hormonal acne then good skincare+ tretinoin+ anti-androgen therapy = clear skin . I don't know if you do all of those already but just wanted to give you some advice. Keep in mind even after all of those you will get occasional spots so keep realistic expectations. I hate when doctors are dismissive. I am so sorry you experienced that. I am 23 and got told it could be PCOS or hormonal acne. I went to 3-4 dermatologists until I finally felt heard and stopped getting out on the generic prescriptions that weren’t working (it would work temporarily and then come right back). I was on doxycycline and Spiralactone and was told it could be hormonal without them checking my hormones. I finally had a dermatologist scrape some skin and get it sent to a lab. It is acne bacteria but thankfully my doc is putting me on accutane because I do want it so I hope you find your solution- regardless of what it is!! 💓💓 Sending love.

You are awesome girl! You truly inspire me. I want to say that you are right about waiting on taking the oral medication - I’ve never heard of that specific one, but in general antibiotics are so bad for gut health because as it’s killing the bad bacteria, it’s also killing the good bacteria in your gut which could cause more harm than good. If you decide to take the oral medication, definitely take a probiotic with it and eat probiotic rich food such as sauerkraut, kimchi, kefir, yogurt, and other things like that just so your gut stays healthy and good! I’m on an acne journey as well and God loves you and cares about you and wants to help. He created us and we are so much more than our physical bodies. Much love❤️

Found out I was low in Zinc Copper and vitamin D
Low zinc and D are directly linked with histamine and gut issues

I began suffering from hormonal acne at 12. My life revolved around it until I was 37 and went on the Ortho Evra birth control patch. My acne completely disappeared. I could sleep with makeup, get stressed, eat whatever; and my skin was NORMAL. No more missing social events, school, work, getting up at 5 am to spend an hour covering zits, no more avoiding pools and swimming. At 50, I had to go off the patch. The acne came back with a vengeance. Only Spironolactone has helped. I’m hoping by 60 I’ll be acne free!!!!!!!!!!

Wow Lavinia, I’m sorry to hear about your experience with the health care system. The doctor definitely did not have good side manners in that he didn’t fully listen to your concerns and kept pushing something on you. And also, as professionals, I’m ashamed that he had the audacity to talk about “how bad your skin is” as you mentioned. Very unprofessional.
I work in healthcare and I’m a pre-med student myself. I would suggest that you get a referral to an endocrinologist to have your hormones (estrogen and testosterone levels check) and come to a conclusion based on that. Gut health also plays a pivotal role in acne as well, some people are predisposed to certain beneficial bacteria missing in their gut that regulate skin conditions. I used to follow this channel a while back and this girl had acne like yours. She went down the route of gut health and it completely changed up her skin. I will reply to this comment with her channel name. Follow her journey and become aware of how she tackled it. It will greatly educate you on the topic. My daughter has tried everything!! she’s been on and birth control since high school, every topical & Accutane twice. The second time she was on Accutane she had to be taken off because her liver enzymes spiked. For the last year she’s been taking spiralactone with the patch. The birth control pills make her very sick and vomit. The patch gives her nausea but at least she isn’t vomiting.however 3 mos ago she decided to stop the patch because of weight gain and mood. unfortunately, it seems as though the spirallactone has stopped working without the BC. Although it was never a fix all it did keep her acne at bay. Struggling with one or two cysts verses 5+ daily. They’re painful and so inflamed. I feel so bad for her! She is at 100mg a day. Her dermatologist is not interested in upping her dose and told her she needs to use the dapzone and Trentinoin more frequently. This just dries out her skin something awful! Gyn dr said she doesn’t have pcos and is not interested in testing her. She has had acne since her cycle began at 14-and she is now 20. I 100% believe it’s hormonal!! Sadly the doctor you visited was uneducated. I’m sorry to hear you had to go through that! :( I greatly appreciate your knowledge and fellow followers advice. Yes very one has bad days but that shouldn’t have happened to you every provider should at least listen and provide more than just one option /opinion like him not even suggesting cortisol shot spot treatments shows that they most likely were not in the right head space bc literally everyone suggests that as a last resort lol Ik you rather not but keep looking for a derm that cares and listens it took me a decade but it was worth it and I’m literally on Medicaid please don’t give up there are providers out there that’ll take ur situation to heart you just gotta keep looking I strongly suggest you don’t go about healing your acne on your own it’s like going through a bunch of shitty therapist some people simply suck when it comes to your doctors you should be friends not enemies like if you don’t feel 100% comfortable you have the god given right to find another one think of it like trying new products until you find what works yes people are flawed but so are products but it’s easier to go from doctor to doctor than product to product again I’m so sorry they made you cry it makes me cry bc I’m a med student to help ppl like you and I who don’t feel seen or cared for simply bc it’s cosmetic it’s literally your face no one should discourage you from healing it. I’m sorry you went through that with an MD, but not surprising. I find anything pertaining to diet/gut health they find to be more in the realm of naturopathic and thus don’t believe it can be an issue or make a difference. Same with checking up on your hormones, like honestly if that’s what you were asking for why the hell wouldn’t they requisition the blood work for you. I’m glad you are finding things to do that are working /helping now. I did accutane in my mid 30s (spent 10 yrs on the pill and after my kids my acne went berserk) but I did alot of research and deliberation-it was a huge decision-and though I had an as good an experience as one can expect on a drug like that (it is harsh!) I 100% support a persons decision on whether or not it’s something they feel ok with doing/is right for their situation, there should never be pressure for it, ever. I would hope that a reputable Derm would not push it if you express your feelings on it but would give other options- because there are! Im currently watching tonnes of YT vids on product reviews because my 13 yo daughter is starting to break out (with what I would call hormonal acne-what a twit that dr must be… was it a he?😒) Anyway, I watched several of yours that have been very helpful in bringing me up to speed with current skin care products etc. thx 🙏

I’ve had jawline/neck acne for 11 years. It started when I came off birth control so if you ask me it’s 100% hormone related as birth control is a synthetic form of estrogen.
I’m able to keep the breakouts managed through eating habits, low impact exercise (Pilates/yoga) and supplements. But I still, without fail, breakout before I start my period every month. If a doctor tried to tell me it’s not hormone related I’d tell them they clearly didn’t pay attention in school.

Really sorry that happened to you, I've definitely had doctors who didn't listen to my concerns and your doctor sounds like they don't know very much about acne. If it's possible I would definitely recommend going both to a dermatologist for more targeted treatment and an obgyn to rule out pcos and other hormonal disorders that can impact acne. A good derm will try other treatment options before accutane because it's really the last resort and there are lots of other medications to try first like retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, azelaic acid, spironolactone. That having been said, I went on accutane after trying everything else and it was the right choice for me. The worse side effect I experienced was the dryness. Post-accutane I still have hormonal acne but I don't get cystic acne anymore and it's overall a lot more manageable.

Unfortunately you got the response because you went to an MD. It sucks (and I come from a family of MDs) but that’s because they focus on the treatment and not root causes. They want to fix it asap, they know what works, and they proceed full steam ahead in that one track way. I finally got some root cause answers when I went to a naturopathic doctor (ND) because that’s THEIR domain. I figured if the ND approach didn’t work, I’d simply go back to my MD and use the meds they prescribed because I know they work. But I wanted to try everything else first and this was one route I hadn’t done yet. So don’t give up! You just have to go to the right provider. Doctors/derms/MDs generally simply have a different approach and it doesn’t work for those who want to actually focus on prevention and not necessarily treatment. Good luck! And sorry you had that experience! I’m always telling my MD family members these stories so there’s more awareness about it and people’s experiences.

I’m so sorry you were treated that way at the doctors. It was completely insensitive and embarrassing on his part for spreading such false information. You can 100% get hormonal acne in your 20s. I’ve had hormonal acne all throughout my 20s and I am only now getting it under control at 27. I also support your decision not to go on accutane. All the women I know who’ve taken accutane have had their acne come back within 2 years, including myself. After my acne returned, I knew I didn’t want to put my body through another course of accutane so I researched other options. I tried Retin-A but my skin just couldn’t handle it no matter how little I used. Like you, I knew my acne was hormonal and I knew I had to focus on balancing my hormones if I wanted to clear my skin for good. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to do it naturally and instead I went on spironolactone. Spironolactone works by reducing your body’s production of androgen hormones which are responsible for the overproduction of oil in your skin. I know this is only a bandaid fix as my skin will only remain clear if I continue taking the medication but I thought I should share this option. I will have to stop taking spironolactone when I want to get pregnant in the future so I look forward to your video on natural ways to balance hormones so that I can also clear my skin in a more sustainable way.

I had gone to the doctors because I was certain I had something called Pcos, (cysts on the ovaries). I spoke with the doctor about my symptoms: persistent acne (even though I watch my diet, workout 6x a week, exceptional skincare routine) thick hair growth, mood swings, and irregular periods. Then I had to do blood draws and an ultrasound to see if there were cysts on my ovaries. And Ta-Da!! I had Pcos. I was happy to find the answer for ‘WHY’. But the only thing my doctor recommended was birth control. So I did it, and it did help my acne somewhat and my mood but then the weight gain became unbearable. I did more research myself and found something called “Ovasitol”. So I quit my birth control, ordered ovasitol and three months of use my acne was cleared and the weight came right off! It was incredible. This year in February I had the most clearest skin I’ve ever had in years, and I became so social and so so happy. But I ran out of it, and couldn’t afford more as I had bills to take care of (it costs around $100+). Slowly but surely the acne came back and the weight. But I’m taking Ovasitol again, I’ve gone from 150 to 124lbs, the jaw acne is still there as well as scarring, but it’s slowly going away again. My mood is better, periods are regular. I just wish I could’ve found Ovasitol sooner, or found out I had Pcos sooner. But I wrote this just in case some of you have the same symptoms as me and had never heard about Pcos before. I say give it a shot, also not everybody has the same symptoms, my auntie also has it (as I have just found out) and her skin is so clear and practically zero hair growth on her arms or legs. Pcos is a crazy thing. Have a good day!

When I started doing skincare my skin type changed from oily to dehydrated combo. There were weeks my skin was dry as the desert. I stopped using all acids for a month and just used moisturizer and BPO spot treatment. My skin went back to normal. My skin was actually oily beneath the dry surface for the entire time. I wonder whether you actually have oily skin beneath your dry skin. I would suggest you to start a break from all acids and see whether your skin gets more oily again. If that happens you don't have to be afraid of accutane and it's drying effect. The treatment that saved me personally was Clienzo benzoyl peroxide 5% clindamycin 1%. I have had zero irritation although I have experienced a lot of irritation to BPO in the past. The formula is just excellent.

Hey sweetie. Please consider asking your derm about yeast- malassezia overgrowth (commonly called fungal acne), it can be mixed with normal bacterial acne so doctors might overlook it but its treated differently so its important to test for it :) and it might explain your situation better than just "hormones", look up pictures to compare. Derms on yt also talk in depth about it.
I relate to you so much and it pains me to see the same beliefs about hormones, food, gut health, etc. that I had when I was younger..youre not sick inside, it has different explanation, and spoilers, its simply about skin health as an organ, unbelievable I know. It took me over 10yrs of fails until I put all puzzle pieces together, changed my assumptions about acne, healed and got clear skin I thought I couldnt ever achieve.. you can imagine all the frustrations on that long journey, my stubborn mind being one of them.. I now only wish somebody had told me sooner what is bs advice and what is useful, so I didnt have to go through so much trial and error, wishful thinking, placebo, greenwashing, wasted time and money..but I learned and nowadays there is better content online beside all the noise and trends.
I imagine u must be fed up with advice at this point but please, just give it a chance and check out "Olena Beley" on insta. Her free content alone helped me, its science based no bs approach, opened my eyes to all bias I had about skin.. its difficult to hear at first but if u keep open mind and are ready or fed up enough to let go of all the acne narratives, she can help you. If you need more guidance and can afford it, she has a course and also does online consultations with amazing results from clients.
I truly wish you all the best, especially patience, you absolutely can heal this with the right strategy and supportive skincare (and without accutane). Pls dont jump to conclusions from correlation alone but I understand your need for deeper explanation. Yet often inflamed skin is just what it is, skin issue that needs the right treatment and support (focus on healing skin barrier). I hope you hear me out, I would love to help you, at least by pointing you to the right direction.

I'm so sorry you had to go through such a difficult doctor's appointment, it's the worst when even doctors don't listen to you... I had a similar situation with a dermatologist as well, really difficult to get through that situation. Re hormones - maybe try ordering a test online for hormone balance? I know it probably won't be as accurate as what you get at doctors but might give you some answers 🤞 good luck!

❤ Sad. Some doctors are so dismissive. We know Our Bodies. Sometimes you have to GET Loud for a Dr to listen. On to the Next New Dr that will Hear You. I agree with the request for a Blood test. They aint paying for it. I wish you well❤

You‘re so inspiring! I was on accutane five times and my acne always came back. The only thing that keeps my skin clear is a combination of topical tretinoin and a BPO Wash. I have hormonal acne even my hormones are totally fine. My holistic derm said some people especially high sensitive people like me react to the normal hormonal changes that happens one a month in the female body. It’s the only thing that sounds realistic FOR MY personal type of acne. 🙈

Hey sweetie, have you tried acupuncture? Your intuition tells you it’s your gut, it’s mostly likely that you’re right. An acupuncturist will get to the bottom of the issue. It will be a journey but it will resolve the issue from source.
I have to let you know how precious you are. You’re truly gorgeous always remember 😘.

I’m going through the EXACT same thing right now! I’m on month 8 off of birth control and my skin is the worst it’s ever been. I’ve had similar experiences with doctors, I went to a hormone specialist hoping she would help me find the root cause and she just recommended me to go back on birth control and start spironolactone..

I’m so sorry that happened to you. I looked back at some of your videos to get more of an idea of the progression. I was wondering if you’ve been continuing to microneedle. If so, you may have spread a bacterial infection across your face. The doxy and epiduo would really clear you up if that’s the case. Not a doctor, just someone with acne. Good luck!

Hi there. Sending some love firstly - I have felt defeated for years after coming off birth control. It’s been about 3 years for me since coming off birth control, tried everything as we all do. I gave up around 3 months ago feeling like there was nothing I could do but accutane which I said no (also have eczema so treating both acne and eczema was very tough) at the point of me giving up I washed my face with cereve salicylic acid face wash, for about a minute. Then I used niacinamide and zinc serum by revolution, while my face was soaking wet - I then sealed it with le roshe posay toleraine cream which I always used for years and decided this was what I was gonna do, I had no more fight in me anymore, I was embarrassed of my face and tired of fighting to look like everyone with clear skin. the next morning to my surprise my skin was glowing and my spots were shrunken completely. My makeup went on flawlessly and I had a good skin day, no touch ups needed and I felt okay. ( I work 15-17 hour days on the ocean so the battle of covering up zits all day had me broken) I carried on doing that every night but added benzac 5% cream on the areas with spots, and everytime I use this combo it shrinks my spots and lights my skin.
The areas with acne have become smaller every week, I chose to not judge my skin anymore, and just do my routine and get on with my day. and now I notice when I don’t use this for more than 2 days my cysts and pimples come back overnight. I am sticking to this routine and finally not feeling defeated anymore. ( I use bioderma face wash - the blue one with the green lid once a day as using the salicylic acids 2 x per day I thought was pushing it’s for my skin)
My acne areas have shrunken down completely, my marks have faded and the only marks I have left is small and on my cheeks. ( still in clumps all together but only marks, no active spots 🥹)
To anyone struggling out there, please don’t give up, rather go back to basics, be patient and learn what your skin needs from you. You know your body, and if you don’t then you come to learn.
I hope your skin gets better, I see the hope and recognize how hard it is to live with affected skin. If anyone tries this combo and it works for you I will be so happy for you. Again sending more love and support and just keep being patient and kind to your skin.
Our clear skin moment is coming for us 🤍🇿🇦

That experience breaks my heart! I hate that. The adapalene is good stuff, though. I know you said you haven't tried it yet, but it should help! Also spironolactone and azelaic acid might also be good scripts to have.

I had a similar experience but I still scheduled a follow up & by some miracle my derm was switched- she’s been an angel. Accutane was not the first step, we tried oral, a combo of oral and .025 tretinoin, and now finally only .05 tretinoin

Dermatologists, for the most part, suck. They mainly prescribe stuff that only treat symptoms. You’d be better off seeing an allergist and possibly an endocrinologist or gastroenterologist (if you have gut issues).

When I stopped taking the contraceptive it took 4 years to get my period back regularly and my acne to be somewhat clear. I will never go back on that!!!! I had accutane twice too. I wouldn't mind to go back on accutan with a non hormonal IUD (the pill is was more scary to me) Now my skin is mostly clear I use spironolacrone with adapalene and peroxyde.

I can relate to your story so much! I had been on birth control for almost 10 years and finally decided to stop taking it 6 months ago. My skin is very bad, while taking the pill I still had regular hormonal breakouts and have had teenage acne before as well. Before the pill I would say I had light to moderate hormonal acne, but after quitting my acne is moderate to severe with many cysts. I was recently prescribed spironolactone and tretinoin and have been using those for the past 3 months. I don't feel like they are helping much. I have also been taking extra B vitamin, Vitamin D, women's multivitamin and Pre and Probiotics. Hopefully time will heal it

Also accutane is not a cure all!! It last several years then can come back, dermatologists just don’t want to do the work or something! There is something in our society impacting us! We could be signaling something very important! If we were given the opportunity to really discover what it is, maybe it’s an ingredient, a hormone, an allergen, an environmental pollutant! Something !!

I've had a similar experience where Accutane was pushed on me 2 times-- which I did both times and now my acne is back pretty severely. Luckily now I live in a country where laser is pretty cheap so I went to a dermatologist who really listened and told me that the one way to fix my acne without oral or topical medication is PDT laser :) I've done 2 sessions and seen vast improvements in my acne and lightening of acne scars! It's not perfect but there are no lasting side effects and I just need to get my breakouts and inflammation under control so any topical skincare or medication can be more effective

Also, look into the Medical Medium for how to change your diet completely to alleviate your acne internally. Girl, I feel you so much and I know your pain. 😔 I’ve had acne for 25 years and just curing it. Please try looking into these suggestions. Don’t go on Accutane. I went on it. It’s very dangerous and my acne came back 2 months after treatment

When you get your period their is changes in your hormones either flow changes or estrogen and testosterone (the skin changes in response to hormones) therefore hormonal acne can literally happen to anyone who got their period especially ages ranging from 20-50 even below.

  • @chameleon28

Honestly for your level of severity accutane is needed for you just to calm down your oil glands… HOWEVER I would seriously look into spiroloctane because I seriously think you have a high level of androgens…hormonal acne is 100% a thing and affects people of all ages so he was completely wrong…please see the dermatologist
That being said I went to the Dermatologist because I had a few really stubborn closed comedones that turn into pimples after a while. First thing she told me was to go on accutane, she didn’t even suggest a topical or anything…they really just use accutane as a cure all even though it has some of the worst side effects
I’m currently 3 weeks into Epiduo and my skin is going through retinization but is definitely better than it’s been in a while, still a few stubborn closed comedones but absolutely no active pimples and my pigmentation is fading, I know you only really see results after 12 weeks and I know I’m likely to purge but I’m hopeful ☺️
(Just wanted to say I’ve already purged once but not as badly as I thought, Was mainly just a few more closed comedones that became visible and some tiny little red bumps in my T zone that have now gone…)
