In this video we talk with Matt, the man behind Crust bikes about what it is like to start a bike company from scratch making unique touring and bikepacking bikes.

Never met Matt but it was an old Vimeo video about him that got me into bike touring! Terrible one shared it after his old bilenky fat bike was stolen. Being a young bmx lad and knowing that it had the Joe Rich tick of approval I was hooked. The message Matt was sharing about living with a little and minimising stress in your life resonated with me and helped me through the mess that is high school and growing up. Rad dude, rad interview, thanks PLP really enjoyed it.
Awesome to hear a bit more about the Crust story!
Thanks for turning me onto Crust bicycles! These are awesome! Matt - Don't ever give this company up, these bikes are fitting market niches perfectly! I'm in love. With more than one😜. Needs more media.
Great interview. After seeing this I'm even more proud to be a new Crust owner.
This gave me a great appreciation for Crust. It helps to "meet" the guy behind the company... Also, Instagram blows so this was the only way I was going to get this info. Thank you Path Less Pedaled!
Great interview. As a business owner myself (completely different industry) it was also really cathartic to hear him talk about his business 👍🏼
Russ is such a giggler! Love Crust, great interview!
man crush?
Just got my poppy-wide bars today. stoked to see the man behind the operation is so humble and cool :)
Fun interview. Really enjoyed hearing Matt's perspective, especially the last 3 minutes.
these interviews are great. you have been super busy!
The instagram comments are right on. That's how I stumbled across Crust Bikes... I think from a repost by Compass Tires? The internet is marvelous sometimes, when it works like this.
Great interview. I'm intrigued with the Cheecho since I'm 5 ft. I've never found a bike with enough standover room for a horizontal top tube. Now riding a 47cm Betty Foy. Come ride in NC. I'm in Charlotte.
If Cheech and I ever end up in NC I will let you know.
Oh man! Pam! Been years! Yes Matt since you guys are in Richmond now you guys need to ride NC for sure.
Still watching the full video. Great bikes from Crust. Hope you can review some of their bikes: Lightning Bolt, Evasion and Romanceur!!!
the bombora is really a beautiful bike! I'm considering it.
Matt was incredibly helpful when I bought my Towel Rack! Soooooooo W-I-D-E! But I can keep my Carradice Camper up front for touring! The bars ride great!
Did you manage to use just one set of bar tape, or did you add grips in the drops or something else? I have first got a Genetic Digest (48cm), then a Funn G-wide (50cm and wider on the top bar), both are very good bars but now i've seen Crust is back in action (the Towel Rack was sold out then), i so want to try one! :)
Hottest bikes going right now! So cool!
Awesome interview. Just checked out Crustbikes they are awesome 😁
We need a follow up video !
I've had a few Bianchi road racers, a couple nice LeMond's, a Litespeed, a Merlin, a Breezer, a Vassago, a Trek, a Specialized, and a Crust Bombora. I agree, this Crest-bike is more "real" than any prior bike I've owned...it tracks and turns like it's on tracks... stable is as stable does!
IN CRUST WE TRUST 🫡
love this
Damn awesome interview, as a Surly guy I definitely see what people dig about the Crust stuff!
I wish Crust would do a flat-bar version of the Evasion frame, one with a much longer top-tube. And canti compatible.
Hi Chris, I could do you a US made version. Email me if you want to discuss it. Matt.
What i live in Missoula , How did you reach out to this guy? nice bikes also.
The tinder for cyclists ! Perfect
Why was there almost no mention of Cheech in this video? She plays a major role in running Crust.
It’s old and she was less involved at the time of recording.
just scored a titanium evasion. the exact bike i was looking for. replicates my Swiss Cross within millimeters. but with 3" tire clearance.
i would love to know who built the frame though
Believe those were made in Los Angeles.
@@PathLessPedaledTV thanks for the reply. i assumed Taiwan.
Matt keep making awesome bikes until you can cash out!
Hey to both of you. I recently got back into riding, but 7 or miles into my trip, my palms are red and sore. Any ideas on correction to fix this. Please keep budget in mind I'm on disability... thanks for the help in advance!
Sounds like you have too much pressure on your hands. Raise your bars and shift your seat forward.
@Path Less Pedaled thanks, I'll give it a try. Love your content been watching your travels and videos for years. Take care and stay healthy.
where is Baha exactley?
he is hilarious.
Fuck yes
Great interviews. Too much giggling.
A well-prepared previously-packaged proper pathless-peddlers [picked a peck of pickled peppers] podcast prologue
Russ's giggling is very grating.
ericdaumeable will try to be more stoic and unfeeling.
I think it's more the mixing man, keep giggling
Yeah like fresh mozzarella.
I know this is old but please Rus’s keep giggling and being real.
I used to work for an industrial giant and this made me shake my head. No matter how nice his bikes are, the business behind them is a trainwreck. He might not be in business NEXT WEEK.
An industrial giant where ppl were numbers instead of people? The fact Crust got off the ground and is still around is amazing itself. People like the man behind the business as much as the bikes. It isn’t corporate as possible like Trek or Specialized.
