I am so glad that you picked this violin version. I have always enjoyed it. It really gives a very warm feelling to the soul especially considering that this song is about Sid Barrett who was a founding member and lead singer of the band. He had serious mental issues which was made worse by using LSD. Consequently, he was no longer able to perform with band. This song is about missing him.
I would like to thank you lovely young ladies for introducing a different version of one of the greatest songs of all time to this old freak. The violin replacing the lead guitar, I thought, was both interesting and very soulful. It was only appropriate that the violin was being played by one of the greatest " jazz violinists" of all times. Thank You very much, lovely ladies. peace and love
As someone from nepal, i like how you girls react to this song as not many people listen to PF here especially girls..BTW I'm listening to them for more than 25 years but this version its first time and its also so beautiful.
Lovely - I saw Pink Floyd perform this at Knebworth in 1975, on the original Wish You Were Here tour. As someone else has noted, the violin is not part of the original track (although I love Stéphane Grappelli as well: I saw him live somewhere during the 1970s, but I can’t remember exactly where).
This is an original recording of the P.F. made at Abbey Road Studios and the violinist is Stéphane Grappelli (French from an Italian family) whose musical collaboration with Django Reinhardt was very famous. The fee for that participation was £ 300. A spicy anecdote. Grappelli was a very enterprising gay and on that occasion he stretched out his hands without embarrassment to David… who didn't like it. Perhaps it is also for that reason that not a single note of this version landed on the '75 LP. However a remastered version with Grappelli's contribution fully audible can be found on the 2011 editions of Wish You Were Here.
🤷🏿♀️ #Facts 😒 I remember when they were still deciding "which one's Pink" and weren't sure we'd ever hear Floyd songs live again. 😆 Blew vacation $ on tickets to the New Jersey Meadowlands show hoping for the best, and got it in spades! Even "just Gilmour solo" shows are amazing and 🤯 the man is pushing 70. 🐰
This is an extra track on the Wish You Were Here double CD 'experience' edition, I think. Pretty good version too. Ignore anyone here who may criticise your choice, Floyd sometimes did record several versions of the same song before they settled on the album version. For example, the track Any Colour You Like, from Dark Side of the Moon, the live in Brighton version is wildly different to the one used on the final album. What I often find about PF is that some of their alternative versions are so good, you wonder how they managed to decide on the album version for the final mix.
Well, I'm criticizing ... Missing all the great guitar work and scatting and that is a CRIME !!! I would doubt if these 2 girls would pick this on purpose, as they are reacting to something they DON'T know. So now, they've been cheated out of the original version that everyone else knows. Again, as sweet as these 2 girls are, that is a crime.
@@ReactionRetreat Most of the album Wish You Were Here was about one of the original members of Pink Floyd before Roger Waters. Syd Barrett. Shine on you crazy diamond Parts 1-5 and Wish You Were Here... He developed schizophrenia when he was quite young. Interestingly they hadn't seen him since he was institutionalized but he showed up during the recording of the album. He had changed so much they didn't even recognize him at first.

@@ericmartin8818 It's not exactly that the violin is added here. More like it was removed for the released version. "A noted part of the song was a planned contribution by Stéphane Grappelli. A jazz violinist popular at the time and well known for his collaborations with Yehudi Menuhin, both violinists were recording in a downstairs studio at Abbey Road at the time. Gilmour had suggested that there be a little "country fiddle" at the end of the song and invited them to participate. Grappelli duly obliged (Menuhin declined) on arranging a session fee of £300, equivalent to £2,500 in 2021.[10] Ultimately during mixing it was decided to almost remove his contribution, although it can just be heard around 5:21. According to Waters it was decided that it would be insulting to credit Grappelli in the sleeve notes for something so inaudible, although he did receive the agreed-upon fee.["

Pink Floyd is one of my all time favorite bands and I was fortunate to see them play live six times when they toured. 😊 Switching bands, lol, I recently watched a video you ladies might enjoy. It’s a song written by Prince that was covered by Chris Cornell (lead singer for Soundgarden, Audioslave, and he also was with Temple of the Dog). The song is No One Compares to You (Sinead O’Conner did a famous version of it too). Chris Cornell’s version is worth a watch if you get bored some day. 😊 Wishing you two a happy day and continued success!
Pink is Pink Anderson and Floyd is Floyd Council. Two blues musicians from the Carolinas in the USA. Their influence is definitely present in this song.
Syd Barrett was a founder member of Pink Floyd but due to excessive LSD use, he dropped out of Floyd in 1968 and was replaced with David Gilmour. Seven years later in 1975, after the mega-success of Dark side of the Moon, the band were recording the Wish You Were Here album which is partly a criticism of the (then) music industry, but also a lament for Syd. Strangely, he turned up randomly at the studio while they were recording this album & no-one initially recognised him as they hadn't seen him in 7 years.
You two are doing a great job and I would like to see you guys start reviewing reaction to watching movies you have never seen before. Wish you were here is about the original lead singer of Pink Floyd, who became schizophrenic and had to leave the band. To this day he still gets his cut of pay from the band. That entire album is a classic my favorite from the album is "Have a Cigar" but a wonderful song and an amazing reaction from our lovely ladies as always.
