    You really crammed a lot into a short time. I need to do something like this myself. Love the videos!

    Thanks for taking us along, Rob. I will be embarking on a similar trip soon (End of September into October) from Rhode Island to Lake Hartwell, SC. 2 Travel trailers from RI one from MA, and more will join as we travel (8 families total). An annual camping event started a couple of years ago from a work trip. Three of us (Myself included) are HAMs, all New Technicians. None of us knew of POTA which I assume is HF only, so you may have just inspired me to study for an upgrade.

      You can absolutely do POTA on VHF and 10 Meters....but you'll have more success on HF bands so I do encourage upgrading if you are able to. Either way, Have fun on your trip!

    I'm glad you got a shot of the "Porcupine Prius" . A few years ago a fellow ham and a Prius owner told me about this ( I wonder if they wind tunnel tested this for fuel economy after the mods, LOL). Looks like you had a great time. 73's de KC2RDU.

    Also interested in learning more about the hamstick mount.

      it s a "ditch light" bracket specially made for my Subaru. They are deigned to hold a fog light but I modified them to hold antenna mounts. In the case of the Ham Sticks I use a 3/8 mount. The ditch light brackets are attached to the hood hinge bolts.

      @@SevenFortyOne I drive a Forrester, need to see if I can find one, safer then climbing up to the mag mount all the time, getting too old for that!

      @@SevenFortyOne can you let me know how you modified it to accept hamsticks? Looks like you light be able to screw in an adapter but I’m not sure which to get.

      @@jerryKB2GCG I just drilled out the hole that the fog light normally mounts to. This video shows and NMO mount being installed but details what I did. One thing I learned later is that the touch screen on my car gives off a ton of RFI. I always have the car completely off when I'm using this mount. It even caused problems with my 2 meter radio so I moved the 2m/70cm antenna to the back of the car. ua-cam.com/video/HePd3gRb064/v-deo.html

    Thanks for the video. I see you are sporting a new antenna mount on the back of the Outback. Care to share what it is and how you mounted it? I know there were struggles a while back getting an antenna to work on the tailgate. I share the same struggles on my Outback as well. Thanks!

    • @SevenFortyOne
      @SevenFortyOne  Місяць тому

      The mount is a diamond k-400 on the plastic panel above the tail light. It just barely fits. The antenna is a comet SBB5 which does not need a counter poise. This antenna was on my hood but was picking up rfi from the touch screen and causing a high noise floor and bad reception. I plan to make a video about this at some point

    Can you share details of how you guys your mast please

    • @SevenFortyOne
      @SevenFortyOne  Місяць тому +1

      I have 3 loops of paracord under a hose clamp around the mast. I then have a length of paracord set up like the rope you would use to guy a rain fly on a tent. On one end is a carabiner and the other end is a loop that goes around a heavy duty tent stake. I made 3-hole tensioners (like you'd see on a cheap tent) for the guy ropes out of a cheap wal mart cutting board.
