Black Swan the song concept is not just about dancing, though the "dancer dies twice" quote is from dancer Martha Graham. It is a statement about dealing with their fear of falling out of love with their art in general, and how this would be like a death to them. They were incredibly burnt out when they wrote this song and dealing with some intense stress at this point in their career, having blown up beyond anyone's wildest dreams in global stardom and been working nonstop for nearly 10 years at this point (counting their trainee days) at a brutal pace of work, churning out songs, albums, tours, performances, etc. The MV has a theme of these large and animated or oppressive shadows, and by the end of the song the shadows have become smaller and more tamed as they get their fear under control. The lyrics talk about being on the ocean floor, feet dragging, so being crushed by pressure and in the dark and cold. They also begin on a stage with a large negative space of darkness above them, as if they are on the bottom of the ocean in the dark. Some members are also wearing corsets, which echoes this theme of being constricted and pressed upon.
It's a masterpiece of a song, and an album, Map of the Soul: 7, that didn't get the attention and accolades it deserved because COVID slammed the world to a stop literally just after this album came out.

Great first song! This was their first performance of Black Swan in Jan 2020 before the pandemic. As they continued performing it they managed to polish the performance even more. If you can even imagine that. You need to watch again because you guys missed Jin 😆

Great reaction; thank you! The live performances are so good, but I do wish you could find a way to also do something with the lyrics. Those are so good and important to BTS. Maybe a live version and then an official MV with captions, if available? (Clara is all of ARMY with any of the content the guys drop...she sounds just like me!! Loved that little bit of info!) Yay Clara!! Maybe she’ll have you watch ON as well? Same era, different vibe. The hint: I’m thinking it’ll be Serendipity, Set Me Free pt 2, or Like Crazy 💜
Black Swan is a great song, however, in terms of vocal capabilities I don't think this song does a great job on highlighting that since it's more focused on the hip hop/rap elements. It's definitely a good one to start with though to see the group as a whole. Whenever you have a chance, I would recommend The Truth Untold to see how the vocal line really shine on that front. And then there are also some songs that heavily focus on the Rap Line's talents (like Ugh! and Ddaeng)
