  • NASA is hiring more new Artemis generation astronauts. Will you be next?
    NASA's latest astronaut class shares their journey.
    To join them, astronaut candidates must have earned a master’s degree from an accredited institution in engineering, biological science, physical science, computer science or mathematics. The requirement for the master’s degree can also be met by:
    • Two years (36 semester hours or 54 quarter hours) of work toward a Ph.D.
    program in a related science, technology, engineering or math field;
    • A completed doctor of medicine or doctor of osteopathic medicine degree;
    • Completion (or current enrollment that will result in completion by June 2021) of a
    nationally recognized test pilot school program.
    Candidates also must have at least two years of related, progressively responsible professional experience, or at least 1,000 hours of pilot-in-command time in jet aircraft. Astronaut candidates must pass the NASA long-duration spaceflight physical.
    Apply to be an astronaut by 31.

      Same here dude(if your a woman sorry lol), I'm 14, and heading to space always seems like the experience of a life time. The weird thing is though, is that saying you want to become an astronaut past the age of 10 feels kind of feels peculiar. Doesn't matter though, this is a dream that I want to accomplish. Best of luck to you and me. See you out there.

      All that is required is imagination and a willingness to relinquish all critical thought you just have to believe in the nonsense story's.... Like santa.
      You poor gullible sheep.
      The vacuum of space cannot coexist adjacent to the pressure of earth's atmosphere. Prove me wrong.

    • @johnroache6012
      @johnroache6012 4 роки тому +17

      mike m
      1) Pressure decreases the further away from Earth center of mass.
      Proof: Go on a hiking or ski trip, the air’s thinner up in the mountains and it takes a few days for people to adjust.
      2) Once understanding that, you should be able to picture the “edge” between the atmosphere and space. Only there’s no set edge, it’s too jagged.
      Proof: Where does the ocean end and land begin? When waves crash on a beach, they don’t all crash the same. Despite this, the water will drain back to the ocean (water cycle); so think of land as space and the atmosphere as the water.
      3) The atmosphere is made of particles in a gaseous state. Gases expand and want to fill empty...space. Physics tells us that if particles collided with Earth, they should fly into space (forces), but they don’t. Why? There must be another force dragging them back down. This is Gravity. It’s also why the pressure is greater at sea level than up in the mountains. More particles remain close to the Earths center of mass
      Proof: Satellites don’t orbit earth. They are constantly falling (accelerating) towards Earth. Without Gravity they’d fly off into space/ without gravity gas would expand into space.

      Chris Hadfield explained very well on how to become an astronaut. He says that since he was 8 he wanted to be one. He worked really hard but manage to do it. If you really love space exploration and want to become an astronaut you'll give everything you have. The dificulties exist. But only as long as you don't fight them. If you are determined you'll succeed. It is a hard job thought. Chris Hadfield learned how to fly a simple aircraft when he was a teenager. Nasa also hires people who have a diverse education and can lear fast. This may result in you to have to go to many courses and universities. Your mum laughs of you because she thinks this is just something you want to do but don't know how hard it is and at what risks. She thinks you need to mature. Go learn. Explore ways that might improve your curriculum. You are the one who can prove her she's wrong. This are some tips. Don't determine anything important based on what I said. I reccomend you to do your own research.

      @TeaRex 4 роки тому +16

      @Damian MielcarekHaving a STEM degree is necessary because the astronauts need to understand the mechanisms at work and the fundamental math and science behind space travel. They need to do science and repair in space while knowing how to as well, pilots are less necessary but understanding how to pilot a craft does have a crossover with piloting spacecraft and other aerospace vehicles. There is a reason the early Gemini and Apollo astronauts were basically all test pilots before.

You train and learn stuff your whole career, often 20-30 years, THOUSANDS of demanding days on the ground, just to be prepared for some distant mission. If you're lucky maybe more than one, but still, this is just few days, 1-2 weeks in space (NASA planned STS missions for 5-14 days, top). People think astronauts job is to relax, chill and have great fun in space, but in reality 99% of your time is spent training on Earth, to be prepared 101% when it's about time... If anyone sees this hello, every year is an inspiration, every year a fall closer to my dream and every year i want to go against the odds and reach my dream after all the effort i put in yonder. That’s so UNFAIR that you must be a US citizen to become an astronaut. Personally i’m a 17 year old student who’s passionate about space , physics and math. I remember buying my first telescope when I was 9 , I remember going to London just to visit the Royal Observatory museum ( astronomy museum) ! The only thing I wanted to do since forever is becoming a Nasa Astronaut. Reading books about aerospace engineering is my daily bread , in addition knowing 5 languages fluently (English, French,Arabic,Polish and Spanish) and currently learning Russian is not a frequent thing you see. Well, last week I was reading the process of getting into Nasa and I was devastated by the fact that I don’t have the chance to become a candidate.
    I’m pretty sure there are thousands of young space lovers like me who would love representing NASA but that’s life it’s unfair sometimes...

    I never had a fixed aim since childhood sometimes I wanted to be a teacher, professor, doctor, business woman and even in armed forces! Being in armed force was one of my strong wishes and I'm 14 years old now! But once when I was 13 (basically an year back) I was at my terrace and thought staring at the sky (basically I'm an astrophile.. I love sky, moon, stars, sun since childhood and I used to spend hours just staring at it!) if I could be an astronaut-? Seemed funny to me as it is too tough to be one but today came through this video.. I think it's a sign.. I'd definitely opt for air force or take science! From now my aim is to be an astronaut.. I'd dig into this astronomy world and be one for sure!

    On 11th January 2019, I Learnt that I was colorblind..
    I was soo determined to be an astronaut since my childhood.
    There were times that I simply cried thinking about space, when everyone else in my family was sleeping. Becoming an astronaut itself was a task next to impossible. But.. Now.. Colorblind.. Ok I know even if I was not colorblind, I may not be smart, I may not be intelligent, but I don't care just.. Space..
    I learnt that only 1 person out 7 Billion people became an astronaut who is a color blind, but atleast he was born in USA.
    Not me.. Iam born in India, struggling with the overwhelming competition.
    Iam depressed, disappointed and frustrated.
    But, as Elon Musk said "I don't ever give up"
    Edit : Yes, Iam a colorblind and short-sighted. Idk, what I will do if I don't become one, but I will just stop caring about my insignificant life, and just let time take over.
