Love to see the "older" hands working with the "younger" hands. It is a treasure to both pass along and gain great workmanship and precision skills. You are both superb craftsmen.
You know, I am sitting here with tears in my eyes. You’ve taken me back with memories of my mom and dad. My mom had a coffee grinder exactly like the one you restored. It is still in the family. On top of it I see, is that you are also using an antique plane and the good old carpenter’s pencil. Thank you for bringing me such fond memories 🙏 I love that you use the original parts that can be salvaged.
This reminds me so much of my childhood and watching my father work. He was born in 1898 and did things the "old way". He was of German decent, born to parents who came to America from the "old country", meaning Germany. I can remember so well watching him run his hand along newly planed wood. He worked at it until it was perfect according to his hands. I was born in 1954 when he was 57 years old.

Hello to Avril! I have to say, I've noticed that there are apparently two people who make videos here. Is one the father and the other the son? Wonderful to watch either one.
Oh, my goodness! I could almost smell the coffee as it was being ground!!! What a beautiful restoration! I'm amazed at how well the metal parts came out! Well done sir!
Yeah, these old things were honestly sort of catch-alls. They'd use them to grind whatever they needed ground. Why buy a bunch of things that do the same thing when you can just have the one workhorse device that takes care of all of it?
I always enjoy watching your videos. The cat is a nice touch too! You go slowly and show all the parts as you remove them, which I like, since I would be confused if one second it's whole and the next disassembled! This video made my rotten day better. Thank you!
I thought it was so cute that you cross out the areas thats going to get cut out. I was so surprised with your precision in making the wood look the same with the use of modest old tools, the effort and patience you put in making it is outstanding! ✨✨
The way you made new wooden parts for those that could not be salvaged is an example of skillful craftsmanship. Good job restoring those parts that are salvageable.
Lovely, sympathetic restoration, keeping as much of old timber as possible. The grinder has retained its vintage charm. Most things are set up for right handed use, that includes grinder burrs. Beautiful Avril, such a gentle kitty. What better way to demonstrate it, with a stove-top coffee pot. Or in this case, a gas blowtorch for a more industrial effect.
Beautiful!! I remember my grandmother having a couple of those back in Germany, and we had one when I was very young. I also remember getting our first electric one and sticking my finger in it to see where the blade went when it was running. This was before safety features to protect small dummies such as myself.
A lot of careful work. Nice result. At first it seemed a total loss to me but you managed to recover almost all of the metal parts and maybe a 30% of the original wood. Congratulations!
Excellent camera work and production. Head and shoulders above others I’ve seen. So thorough in what you need to show us. Teaching like a Jedi Master. Appreciates, does this youngling.

This is beautiful to see , it's sad that we have lost so much craft in our lives. Thank you for your video. I grew up using one of those in Puerto Rico, GOD I WANT TO GO BACK TO THAT LIFESTYLE.
Very nice work showing you can restore anything from a home coffee grinder to an industrial grain mill! I love the hand work. It makes this restoration so much more interesting and when I cut dovetails for my drawers, I always use a Dozuki or a Ryoba...a pull saw can have a much narrower kerf than a western saw that needs to be thicker to not distort on the push. All Japanese pull saws are self straightening. Just a simple brilliant design. Love the grinder!
Вещи служили когда-то людям и ещё долго будут радовать! Делали тогда на века! И попали в руки теперь небезразличному человеку! Браво! Настоящий мужчина нигде не пропадёт!

Ok, I loved the restoration video. But that coffee pot/maker at the end!! 😱😱 I need one of these!!! Seriously amazing work restoring the grinder tho! That was amazing to see how you hand made those pieces when the original ones broke or were too brittle!!
01:19 In a similar situation I ground a fork, like a snake's tongue, into the screwdriver blade which means it slides further under the head of the nail and doubles the contact area. Just don't do it to your best screwdriver!
