Hey guys, truly awful news, we really enjoy discovering new music from all parts of the world, and Lata was certainly one of the most unique voices we had come across. As Efra always says, we are constantly learning, so if there's anything you'd like to share with us feel free to do so. Our thoughts and prayers go to all her family and all of you guys.
Apologies in advance if you see any ads, unfortunately, we have no control over that as it has been copyrighted.

And yes she was a legend but the record of 50K songs is not her, there was a dispute between md rafi sir and lataji that who sung more songs lata ma'am claimed to sing over 50K songs but not all songs were found but finally her sister asha ma'am got the record for most songs in 2012 that is 26K songs

This intensely patriotic song was composed as a tribute to the Indian soldiers who were killed during the Indo-China war of 1962; it is said the Indian PM Nehru (at the time) was brought to tears when Lata first sang it back then.

The song released on the Republic Day of Indian in 1963 is specifically about the Indo-China war of 1962-63 fought on the Northern - North Eastern front of the country naturally bordered by tall mountains of the Himalayas. It was written and composed to instill confidence, motivation and determination amongst the countrymen after the devastating war with China, because at that time India/ Indians never expected any kind of aggression or threat from China - and Indians believed in brotherhood with Chinese (as both were the largest/populated and developing countries of the world). It was 60s - India was young and already fought battles with Pakistan, the cold war between US & USSR was not helping in anyway to expand markets/develop the country on faster pace. India from the beginning was very vary of the west because of the colonization experience and thus in late 40s - the newly independent India put it's faith into China (As China was militarily more capable and did counter Axis powers on it's own during WW2) and pushed China as the UNSC permanent member (in hindsight - the biggest mistake not for just India but for the whole world).
Well, rest is history. Chinese betrayal was very devastating and military losses were a major setback. It shook the core of Indian establishments, principles of national brotherhood in the post war era especially when rest of the world was divided into camps.
The then Prime Minister of India - who vouched for Chinese and put his and the whole country's security hopes in our neighbors - suffered heavily mentally and physically, passed away in the subsequent year of the song was released.
This war was an eye-opener for the Indian diplomatic system and soon for the very first time India started it's strategic diplomatic ties outside Asia and especially with USSR. India very strongly defended the next 2 wars in 1965 & 1971 with Pakistan and now had the realization of how important are bilateral military relations with developed nations. This slowly opened the path for India's Nuclear ambitions in mid 70s and in late 90s. And also led the country towards Globalization & Economic liberation in early 90s.

Also to add this was written by Poet Pradeep who was as he explained really anxious after news of war and wanted to express but couldn't
So he went on a walk and then the song lyrics came to his mind just at an instant and he noted it down by asking a shopkeeper nearby to lend him a piece of paper and pen.
This song is ingrained in national memory and is one of the most iconic ones.
The like each men killed 10 is actually a refrence to Battle of Rezang La(check out video about it on YT) where this actually happened.
The song has a history of its own

Its truly hard to describe just how much Lata Mangeshkar really is a part of the DNA of India. I honestly think a feature friday on just her legacy would be worth it if you guys are interested, because she is the bedrock of the entire indian music industry... She is the soundtrack of our lives.. Her music is played at every wedding, every birthday, every funeral, every festival... I mean, 30,000+ recorded songs. She dubbed vocals for film actresses in the 40s/50s and then their daughters and then grand daughters. But to really hear here talent, you have to listen to her early work.

This is a good collection of her songs across the decades:
      1. Lag Ja Gale: You must react to the original black and white version sung by Lataji in her prime! She was very young here and her voice reflects that.
      2. Bhor Bhaye from Satyam Shivam Sundaram: I recommend this song over other classic songs from this classic film because of its interesting arrangement especially for the time. Lataji was older here and had a slightly deeper voice here.
      3. Tujhe Dekha to Ye Jaana Sanam from the movie DDLJ: The most iconic Bollywood song from the 90s sung by a 66-year-old Lataji for a 20-something heroine! Need I say more?
      4. Luka Chuppi from Rang de Basanti: One of the saddest songs of my own childhood from the 2000s sung by an 77-year-old Lataji and composed by AR Rahman. See the strength in her voice even at this age!
      5. Sunya Sunya Maifilit Majhya from Umbartha: Last but not least, a beautiful Marathi-language classic song composed by her younger brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar. You could dedicate a whole another episode to the musical adventures of the duo, but this song is by far their most iconic outing.

This song was inspired from the “Battle of Rezang La” in 1962 when 120 Indian soldiers were surrounded by 5000+ Chinese soldiers and only 4 of those 120 ran and survived to tell the story. Rest of them died fighting but killed around 1000 Chinese soldiers until all their ammunition was over. India didn’t have proper roads in those terrains at the time, so reinforcements couldn’t be sent in time. Later, even the Chinese Army praised the Indian Army for their valour in this battle. Also, India later recaptured the area and only a few weeks ago, a memorial has been established at that place. The only soldier alive from that battle today was on wheel chair when Rajnath Singh, India’s cabinet Minister moved his wheelchair taking him to and from the memorial to pay respect, this video went viral, you can also react to it, it’s a short video. The scale of this battle was so high and the terrain is so dangerous that all the remnants have not yet been recovered. Even today, the remnants of fallen soldiers are found in Rezang La. It is this story which made all of the people stand to pay respect, just as we stand for The National Anthem. Jai Hind!🇮🇳

Her emotions were not only limited to India but countries like Pakistan , Sri lanka.
Singing from an early age of 5 , was trained by her father in childhood . When her father died she was just 13 and in order to look after her siblings and mother she did sacrifice of her young days. Started singing , gaining attention because of her sweet honey like voice. She kept working hard. Explored 36 different languages and dialects. Was the first Indian to perform at Royal Albert Hall London .
Raised voice for playback singers. She sang even in 2010's . Last sang in 2019.We lost her at age of 92 due to post COVID complications.
What is ironic is that the day we lost her was the day after India was celebrating Saraswati Puja which is basically where we worship the goddess of education and music. And it seems like the next day she took our nightangle with her to the heavens.
    Her voice and personality
    will always remain immortal.💕🙏

It's hard to express in words what Lata ji meant for India. In Hinduism we worship the Goddess of Music, Ma(Mother) Saraswati. And for all of us, irrespective of religion, she was an embodiment of Ma Saraswati. He voice lent solace to the years, calmed the anxious minds and had that mothery affection that was felt not just by our generation but even our fathers and grandfather's. She was The Music of India. And her demise is a huge loss for the entire nation. However, she is already immortalized by the number of songs she had sung. Her heavenly voice will continue to grace us ad infinitum.

Yes, you put it right, "it was her delivery and that made her iconic." And no, this was not a movie song, it not is even to this date. This was after the 1962 Indo-Chinese war that she performed this song on perhaps the Independence Day in 1963. And it this very song that made her stand out from a barrage of talented vocalists and musicians that India has had over the years and made her the Nightingale of India.

This is actually a song sung during a fundraising event for war widows of the Indo-China war in 1962. The then Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru is said to have welled up post the performance. It has a huge emotional connect to us Indians, owing to the fact that we have a very important event associated with this song in our history.

She was born in 1929, and India gained her freedom from the British rule in 1947. So she was a person who had lived through the freedom struggle... The Prime Minister cried when she performed this song in front of him in 1963 after the Indo-Chinese war of 1962... We, the kids born in after the 2000s, still believe her voice to be the most iconic in India's history. She's a legend just like Kishore Kumar. And she was a spinster so everyone referred to her as Didi, which means elder sister

This Song is dedicated to our Freedom Fighters and the Indian Army. The Republic of India was the Colony of Portuguese, French, Dutch and British. Britisherers were the last who ruled in India since 1608 AD to 1947. When India was a Colony, Indians were the Slave to Britisheres. Due to foreigners, India witnessed Thousands of Battle in order to get freedom and We lost our many National Heroes like- Bhagat Singh, Chandrasekhar Azad, Lala Lajpat Rai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Bipin Chandrapal, and many more. The list is too long. Britisheres tortured and looted Indians for more than 300 yrs . The History of India is Very Rich. Jai Hind🇮🇳

And since you guys look for "Live" performamces, the thing is the studio recordings till 1970s used to recorded Live, without any patchwork. Lata Mangeshkar had absolutely stunning vocal range and her delivery was pitch perfect, the music industry could not think beyond her most of the time. Please react to her old (black and white films) songs like "Man Mohana Bade Jhute" Film Seema, "Raina Beete Jaaye" Film Amar Prem or "Aap ki Nazron Ne Samjha" Film Anpadh.

So he went on a walk and then the song lyrics came to his mind just at an instant and he noted it down by asking a shopkeeper nearby to lend him a piece of paper and pen.
This song is ingrained in national memory and is one of the most iconic ones.

The reason why there are so many emotions felt in this song is because Lata ji was a witness to India's freedom strugle against the Britishers, she witnessed herself, the pain, the brutality, the sacrifices of people of India, almost thousands of them, and the continued struggle they had to face due to post freedom border issues that was left behind by the Britishers. So she could portray the emotions that can touch the soul of people.

  • @ullaskrishnan79

This song was first performed after the Indo-China war in 1962... It was also probably one of the first non-film songs that gained such huge popularity in our country and obviously as you can see even from this performance, that's down to the pure emotions coming out from Lyrics, Lata Ji's singing and of course Music itself.
Personally, I was in a hospital isolation ward waiting for a major surgery in 1989 when I first heard this song from nurse's station via Radio on our independence day (I was 10yrs old then). Considering I am a non-native Hindi speaker (coming from Kerala -South India), I didn't probably get anything much in terms of lyrics but the emotions in her voice, the melancholy and triumph in the music captivated and motivated me beyond what I thought was possible then.
I have no close friends or family in Indian army but irrespective of your profession, this song is a call for us to do our best for our country and fellow humans and that has inspired me so in many times in the future.

Great reaction! She's quite old here (70+), but still excellent. But to really be blown away by her legendary singing, check out her songs from her absolute prime (1950s, 60s, 70s). There was an amazing concert given by her at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 1974 where her singing was just incredible - it's filled with wonderful songs, here are a couple of great ones - ua-cam.com/video/-zEiNhTebWw/v-deo.html (Naina Barse Rim Jhim) and ua-cam.com/video/bWByeeKa4VU/v-deo.html (Yeh Zindagi Usi Ki Hai - the ending is just amazing, I watched it as part of the movie and will never forget it ever). These are just the tip of her extraordinary collection of fantastic songs in her prime.
