AlphaBay was a darknet market operating at different times between September 2014 and February 2023.
Both as an onion service on the Tor network and as an I2P node on I2P.
After it was shut down in July 2017 following law enforcement action in the United States, Canada, and Thailand as part of Operation Bayonet, it was relaunched in August 2021 by the self-described co-founder and security administrator DeSnake.
The alleged original founder, Alexandre Cazes, a Canadian citizen born on 19 October 1991, was found dead in his cell in Thailand several days after his arrest, with police suspecting suicide.

I think this video took a shortcut there. Apparently the hotmail address in the metadata was a very early thing and got fixed very fast. What gave it away was apparently a DEA agent not just registering on the platform, but receiving an anonymous email with one of the early registration emails attached, which then led to the whole hotmail account search.
Just One question- why was Alexander going to be extradited to the US as he was a Canadian Citizen?
Congrats Real Crime for being the 10th UA-cam channel to repost this documentary... And with a Snowden clickbait thumbnail no less. But at least you made the effort to try to upscale it to 4K. Another good one to steal/repost is, "Silk Road: Drugs, Death and the Dark Web." I recommend using the faked assassination pictures sent to DPR as the clickbait thumbnail but maybe photoshop more blood for the drama/shock.

While the topic is super interesting this is such a boring documentary. You see a person talk for maybe 30 seconds followed by 30 seconds of text describing something from the case and then a minute of stock video accompanied by some random audio. Once this is done the cycle starts over and so it has been for the first 15 minutes of the video so I’m gonna jump ship and pass on this one. There’s plenty of super intense and interesting documentaries on the channel so it’s surprising to see this one get past the quality checkers but I guess I can accept a miss once in a while. 🙂
