Lightning To The Nations (The White Album) [Remastered 2021] is the ultimate version of this ultimate album, out via Silver Lining Music on 30th September 2022. The release features not only the original album from ¼ inch master tapes which Lars Ulrich helped Brian Tatler retrieve back in 1990, but also alternative mixes of classic cuts “Lightning To The Nations”, “The Prince”, “Sucking My Love”, “Am I Evil?” and “Sweet And Innocent” never publicly released (or heard) before. There is also brand-new cover artwork based on an idea Brian Tatler had, to show a character referred to as ‘The Lightning God’.
“In 1990 as a celebration of the tenth anniversary of the NWOBHM, Lars Ulrich and Geoff Barton compiled the double album ‘New Wave of British Heavy Metal ‘79 Revisited’ which came out on Phonogram Records. It was Lars who made it his business to track down wherever possible the original master tapes because all he had were the old, often scratched singles,” recalls Brian. “He told me that he would often call up members of the bands they wanted to feature on the album and the confused guy on the other end of the phone would assume it was wind-up. ‘Who? Lars Ulrich? From Metallica? Fuck off!’ When Lars called me, I explained that the original ¼ inch masters for ‘Lightning To The Nations’ hadn’t been seen since they were sent by our old manager to a guy called Horgi at Woolfe Records years back. Apparently Horgi didn’t return the tapes, so Lars dispatched someone from Metallica’s German label to pay the guy a visit… The tapes were duly returned and after Phonogram had finished with them, Lars made sure they came home to me. I still have them stored safely.”
The original tapes were first quite literally baked (a process which allows degraded tape to be returned to playable quality), then restored and digitized before Diamond Head frontman Rasmus ‘Ras’ Bom Andersen remastered the tracks, ending up with a pristine edition of the original recordings and the recently discovered alternative mixes. Pure treasure for all fans of both Diamond Head and the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, the restored masters are supplemented by a set of bonus tracks originally recorded in 1980s. Rounding-out this ultimate edition are a set of deep and detailed notes on both the era and each song by Brian Tatler.

An interview with Dave mustaine that was on my newsfeed where he said that this was his favorite album of all time. Megadeth is my favorite band and there's almost no bad album that I can think of besides risk of course but even if it has a couple of goodies. This is my first time really sitting down and listening to diamondhead I've heard of them I heard them once or twice a long time ago now I'm really going to delve into it thanks Mr Mustain you're the man 🔥🎵🔥💀🔥👁️🔥👽🔥☠️🖤🔥🦾🔥🤘🔥

Тайна велика сия есть. Кроме указанного названия этот диск проходит как «Белый альбом». Потому что первопресс и «второпресс» были с белой обложкой, подписанной вручную музыкантами группы. Вот это называется, сэкономили. Где одна подпись, где две, кто-то, видимо, тащил виниловую пластинку на концерты и брал автографы у музыкантов всей группы. Это ж надо было так заморочить людям патлатые головы)). Сколько стоят эти экземпляры у коллекционеров, я даже боюсь посмотреть на Дискогсе.
Кстати, я например, слушаю ремастер 2011 года от Universal. Даже после мастеринга звук - не ахти, и потому не могу представить, как он звучал в оригинале. Наверно, еще сырее и круче.
Diamond Head некоторые называют ОДНОЙ ИЗ ПЕРВЫХ групп NWOBHM - это хорошо чувствуется на данном альбоме. Команда была организована в 1976 году и играла Heavy Metal/Hard Rock. Пара демо-записей, пара синглов за 4 года. Ну и вот вам винил. Контракта нет, сами выпустили.
Рецензенты отмечали музыкальные связи Diamond Head с UFO и Black Sabbath. Что очевидно было намерением поддержать группу, дать новичкам шанс. А я бы еще назвал Led Zeppelin.
Чем хороши вот такие издания - 2CD Deluxe Edition? Да тем, что там есть даже история команды. И биография начинается с одной большой металлической группы М. Которая честно как-то назвала Diamond Head своими важнейшими предшественниками. Другие приколы вы читали в биографии этой группы M., когда один музыкант по молодости ездил как привязанный за DH в турне.
И хватит про M.
Гитарист Diamond Head Brian Tatler рассказывает про свои школьные годы: «Я начал врубаться в Deep Рurple и Ричи Блэкмора. Я хотел сыграть соло из Highway Star. Я думал, если сыграю, то люди заценят. …Я приезжал домой из школы и практиковался в спальне».
И обратите внимание, когда Брайан нашел себе ударника, они уже в самом начале пробовали писать СВОИ песни. И еще - когда команда уже сформировалась - никогда не думала, что вот они - молодые, только начинающие. Всегда думали о себе, как о молодых, но перспективных. Играли, где только возможно, и в 1980-ом сыграли в Лондоне, открывали Angel Witch.
А вокруг уже пахло Металлом, поднимались такие группы как Iron Maiden и масса других... накатывала тяжелая NWOBHM. А Брайан крутил головой и думал: «Да мы не хуже иных, а может быть и лучше». Потому ребята и заделали самиздатом ныне легендарную виниловую пластинку Lightning To The Nations.
А что? Материала хватало - в загашнике было около сотни(!!!) своих песен(!!!). Потом кстати, нашлись и лейблы, готовые официально издать альбом. Большая история Diamond Head началась...
Группа культивировала Heavy Metal с Blues Rock и Hard Rock влияниями, а так же классической музыки, которую слушал Татлер. И с самого начала альбома можно заметить еще один фактор - команда не заигрывает со слушателем - «сделаем просто и красиво, а то вдруг не оценят, не поймут». Музыканты со всей серьезностью впряглись в тему, не давая слабины, выдавая материал изо всех сил, на которые были способны. И эта энергетика не могла быть не замечена.
Гитарист Татлер (20 лет на момент записи) вспомнил бдения в своей спальне, а также некоторые работы Густава Холста (английский композитор, 1874-1934). Его гитара то беснуется, жалит и драконит, то вполне по блюзовому тяжко-меТодична и риффами цепляюща. По его струнной теме скажу сразу - это большой труд, местами по кайфовому хаотичный, неоднородный - будто его вот тут сразу сочинили, сыграли и записали. Вот такое здоровое впечатление сиюминутности и импровизации. А меж тем атмосферы и спецэффектов, актуальных на то время в альбоме хватает...
Что с вокалистом? Sean Harris (20 лет на момент записи)..., а ведь нормально спел (не Плант - да, но Плант у нас один). Обладатель не сильно мощного, но выразительного вокала - однозначно. Местами он немного проседает, но, я считаю, что это издержки записи всего альбома за 7 дней студийного времени. Великий плюс от этого - уже упомянутый эффект непосредственности. Будто вот группа встала и сыграла перед нами этот альбом.
Еще раз: 2CD Deluxe Edition.
На втором диске собраны некоторые вещи с EP 1980 и EP 1981. И это классно, ибо там никакого ремастеринга нет. А есть техничность, бесшабашность и от того, что удивительно - цельность. Очень даже неплохое дополнение.
P. S. Чуть не забыл. Слушая этот альбом, заметно, что упомянутая группа М. вдохновлялась кой-какими идеями Diamond Head.

Lars is a very polarizing dude but hes a british heavy metal fanatic at heart and he really loved theses bands from the NWOBHM and Diamond Head specially, so in a way thanks to him people my age knows bands like Diamond Head, Sweet Savage, Holocaust, etc.

Europe's first two albums take everything from this
I used to listen to Metallica and had all their albums upto "the Black Album". When I read somewhere that this band had been their primary influence, I immediately bought this album and gave it a listen. Afterwards, I thought and said to myself. "Holy shit! This is the REAL thing! Fuck those Metallica copycats"! I immediately gave or sold away all my Metallica albums, and haven't looked back ever since.
