This video has solved my knee pain in both knees after struggling with patellofemoral pain for YEARS. All it took was a few sessions on the leg extension machine as described in this video. I had long suspected there was a muscular imbalance causing my pain, but this video confirmed that it was a weak VMO.
I've seen countless doctors, PTs, you name it. I tried strengthening my abductors, my hamstrings, my IT band, my calf muscles, and I also tried VMO exercises in the past, but they weren't effective like in this video. I've also tried foam rolling, stretching, tapings, tons of different bracings, heat therapy, PRP, yoga, deep massage, etc etc. But the simple modified leg extension in this video solved it.
Studies claim that the VMO can't be isolated. While this is true, it CAN be emphasized more than the vastus lateralis which is commonly overstrengthened.
    Thank you!

man I hope this works for me, as soon as the gyms open I'll do that too. My pain has been killing me too for almost two years, I had to kiss goodbye to hiking, running, lifting, and so many other things I loved doing because of the damn pain. I developed patellar maltracking after arthroscopy and a bad recovery...I wouldn't wish this even to my worst enemy. This thing has cost me almost 20 pounds of muscle loss. Your comment gives me a bit of hope.

Tweaking my leg workout in this manner has really helped a lot.

This is gold. I've been battling itbs and knee valgus for over one year. Left the gym due to knee pain and swelling, I've been looking to going back to the gym. And I've been looking for the right exercise that won't aggravate the knee pain. I just stumbled on this. Would definitely try these out and see how it goes. The exercises are so logical and well thought for patients living with knee pain and are body builders.

I’ve got knee problems, not exactly sure the cause other than wear and tear in the military, some minor twisting injuries I tough through, and overloading squats. Resulted in tendonitis and degrading cartilage. Dialing the weight back, and doing all of these leg exercises and half reps focusing on the growth side of lifting instead of just power has really helped strengthen my knees and allowed me to continue to progress in fitness. Thanks for all the vids and advice dude, and keep it up!

I have overpowered outside quad from the time off. I found that I can really light up interior with knees close, feet wide, toes out and curled up. Moght just be an over powered outer quad situation.

Useful video. Can you do a video on how to train the adductor muscle? I appreciate it.

Another helpful video. I'm trying to learn to push with the heels when I train legs. I train legs at home with dumbbells and bodyweight.
Pushing with the heel at the top of a movement to get a peak contraction on the quads is challenging for me, I''ll continue to practice...LOL.
