  • I thought it was time to do an update on what has changed in the showroom since the channel began. As well, a sneak peek into the back room to get an idea of some other things that could be coming up for review down the road.

    You have the most "amazing" collection of vintage hi-fi I've ever seen in one place! You should really consider doing a live Q&A episode some time. I'm sure we all have a million questions we'd love to ask. What ya say?

      I have thought about it. Longer term, I am working on more ways to interact with the community that follows the channel and live sessions will be a part of it.

      @@stereoniche You specifically, nah, but you AND those like you, yes. Especially if you have more than one of something. Unless of course, the plan is to repair and sell them, then great. But if you're collecting many of the same items with no plan to sell, well, many would call that, hogging of hoarding, rather than collecting, lol.

    I used to have a Heathkit AA 100 and they are different. I also had the matching tuner, but both got away from me years ago. Currently I've been rediscovering a recently restored Fisher 800B I've had since the late 80s. Nice gear and thanks for the video!

    • @stereoniche
      @stereoniche  3 місяці тому

      Thanks for sharing. The AA-100 is very unique, indeed. I've read they sound a bit mediocre, but with some tweaking can perform quite well. I think they look so cool, I could just admire it without ever turning it on, but it will eventually get a complete recap, etc..

    • @jeffbrooke4892
      @jeffbrooke4892 3 місяці тому +1

      @@stereoniche Not that I can do an A/B comparison any more, but I would expect your Fisher to outperform the Heathkit. They represent two different price points in the market for their day and their performances would be expected to reflect that. However, it would be interesting if you did a program that compared the two with using a set of Klipsch or AR speakers on both. It would be fun hearing how the "blue collar" Heathkit compared to the "white collar" Fisher. And maybe throw in a McIntosh and Dynaco too. Sort of what audio enthusiasts might find if they walked into a hifi shop "back in the day."

    If that speaker switcher in your main room shares a common ground for left and right channel, do not hook up your Krell KRS-200 to it! You'll short the output of the amp. The KRS-200 is a fully balanced design and the minus speaker outputs are floating (not tied to ground).

    I recognized the Vector Research receiver immediately. I had that very model. I worked in a shop that sold them. I think it was Custom Hi-FI in San Antonio TX. Then I bought the VRX-9000 with the VCX-600 3 head cassette deck. I always regretted getting rid of them.

    Scott, enjoy your videos very much, keep up the good work. I did note you were looking for a set of Cambridge Soundworks Tower 1's. Hi George! Yes, they are on my list. Unfortunately, being located in NC would make that unrealistic as I pick up all of my gear in person. One never knows, I have gone all the way to Idaho before to pickup gear, so never say never. 🙂

    • @georgepetrovic567
      @georgepetrovic567 3 місяці тому

      @@stereonicheScott. I get all my gear in person as well. Interestingly, my wife reminded me that we will be traveling to Columbus, Ohio later this summer to move into our summer home. As I am taking much of my vintage gear in our SUV (no way I'm trusting movers) to set up several systems there, I could easily include the Tower1's. At least they would be closer than Idaho! If you'd like some detailed pics just let me know where to send. If you are interested after reviewing the pics I could include them in our move.

    Had fun with a Monarch tube tuner today. Amazing sound quality for it's age (1961). The Onkyo P-306rs preamp and amp may have helped??

    • @stereoniche
      @stereoniche  3 місяці тому

      Well, any radio signal quality starts with the tuner, so without that, it all would have been downhill from there. The amp/pre help build on it, but incrementally.

    Some lp collectors realize they have hoarded more records than they can possibly listen to in one lifetime. To spend even a few weeks with all the different equipment combinations you have there, would require about 30 different lifetimes. If the Eagle is original parts and working like new; you'll probably hear something special there. The guy who designed it was a genius, and was doing research on all kinds of different stuff, some top secret stuff some surmise and I read where he suddenly disappeared out of thin air & existence one day; and it is still a real mystery. The big Krell amps will send your electric bill soaring. The Quad electrostatic if it's the one that came out in the 1950s, some say still has midrange reproduction that has never been surpassed. I hope what is in that mystery box you wont make us wait too long on. Audiophiles hate to wait.

      I've noticed more acceptance to collections if they are within a retail store setting, then the viewer cannot differentiate between what is part of the collection and what is for sale. If so, think of my collection as a "store of vintage gear" with a very limited number of items for sale. :-) On the Eagle 7, I chatted with Russell Sherwood several years ago about it, very nice guy.

They were originally for clothing and were an ugly dull yellow, so I repainted them grey. They are perfect because the openings are so wide, they accommodate most vintage gear.
