Maddy, your power numbers must have been amazing. I pulled the van over as your group came through - not that far before the viaduct. The elite women were so very strong - what a train what a privilege to observe close up! I walked bits of the course yesterday to check for litter ( not much ) and wondered how the bikes manage the speeds without falling apart! Thanks so much for being here in Gatehouse again..
That looked like good fun, you were really flying there. Good work on the bike prep too if you made it through all that carrying that much pace and no mechanicals, it's a good sign. Thanks Joe for the camera work! I guess your experiment worked in the end though: now you know how hard you can push, which is 91% of that! Well done, good effort, and best of luck for the next one.
Great vlog Miss Maddy Nutt of amazing trip to Scotland and Gralloch UCI gravel race in beautiful weather. Ah..Scotland,; such a cruel country, the hills, the midges, the rain and every now and then the sun shines.! Ouch.. cramp is so painful and debilitating and amazing effort to stretch out cramping and cycle to the finish line. Tough day on amazing looking gravel and rest and recover well. Well Done Maddy and Thank You for visiting Bonnie Scotland. After the race, feed the lambs and feed yourself ice cream. Ah bless and bliss.
Excellent vlog, Maddy! I felt like I was along for the ride with you, having just run a gravel event. You had some tricky gravel. Nice effort, especially working through the cramp pain!
Maddy awesome video, I did my first Gvl at the Gealloch this year. Managed to stay upright and finish, you went past me at 55 miles point, but hey im a roadie at 53, yeah I rode this on my birthday, pea gravel, mud, even more mud, bricks it was brutally beautiful. Let's go again.. ❤
Love the video MN- putting Finland firmly on my gravel-travel list. I’ll research this but do ya happen to know if one could do two or three races over there within a given month? Many thx
Nice video. I got terrible cramp too for the first time ever in a race. The lovely girl in the boujie soap shop (Apothecally) said you’d been in and will be glad to have made the edit!
Great video, appreciate the quick turnaround. Strange to get such severe cramps, maybe review the electrolyte intake during the event? Looking forward to the next event all the best
Brilliant coverage as ever - gives such a good sense of the race with the amazing footage and commentary, I literally felt my bones juddering over the rough stuff (ouch). The post-race in PJ’s just topped it off. Each video adds to the inspiration to get out and explore more…
Nice job Maddy! And yet another great video :). What a perfect positioning under those antlers during the pre-race interview :). And the swanny cam intermezzo, just lovely.
All my bikes have names..shame on you Maddy!!! 😊 Pity the go-pro ran out of battery. The last gravel descent was scariest bit for me and was hoping to relive it. You definitely had better food than me on this trip. Sooooo jealous. Got hungry watching this.
Another great race video, sorry about your cramps good luck with that mystery! I’m sure you’ll figure it out. Swanny has really aged it must be a very taxing job :)
Maddy great result without the cramping. You can sort that out wth hydration and so forth. Always lessons learned so full speed ahead mate. You are doing great this year. I think you might have a good result in Africa; for sure tweek the hydration down there. Those cramps are brutal. You were holding a potential top 10 spot in a UCI event with stout women riders. Go Maddy!!! PS If you ever come to the US, I want to be the guest swanny cam! That would be amazing.
PS: given you got cramp you still had a very respectable finish time. Well done! Do you take magnesium citrate tablets at night? Could help. Plus don't use hydration tabs with artificial sweetener (can be diuretic). All the best for your next races!
Maddy, one way to prevent the chain from coming off is this. You can (only) attach the cage of a front derailleur. Then the chain can't fall off at the front. Greetings from the Netherlands👍🚴♀️🇳🇱🇪🇺
@Martin-on2pp it's not really a solution. It helps for some chain drops but not all. The front derailleur is too wide to do that. There are actually guides that mount to the hanger that are just wider than the chain though and that may be what you confused for a front derailleur.
Good vid Maddy- gonna add Scotland to my gravel bucket list. Whats up with all the rice? Do you not like oatmeal? I can’t imagine racing without my oatmeal :) Keep up the good work !
I do like it but oats have lots of fibre in, which isn’t so good pre racing :) I made the switch to rice a year or so ago for my pre race meal and honestly feel so much better on the bike. My taste buds are sadder but I feel better!
@@maddynutt Thank you. sorry if that was a silly question. Some of that terrain looked pretty rough for 40mm wide tyres - fair play (saying this as a mtb rider who rides some smooth gravel on 45s)
@@maddynutt It does, but for the rear I think the faster SK would have worked. Save a few watts to last that hair longer. I've seen people riding on the SS and tires like it in my part of Desert/IE and we have some steep fireroad gravel routes. Just in wider sizes cause it's dusty and rocky out here.
chain catcher - in combination with an oversized pulley wheel rear cage offers more engagement points for spring tension on the cage. it’s an expensive proven fact. Especially for those 1x riders who don’t have mounts for front chain catcher. The K-Edge chain guide encapsulates the entire 1x. Sram clutch is weak, so 100% can mitigate chain drop with the notes above. Cheers
So you started at the front of the grid and was well-positioned at the end of the neutralised section. Why would you spend time faffing with your bike computer and let so many people past? Isn’t this a way-marked and marshalled course with timing chips?
No danger of being outshone by Swannie Cam this time. 😂

Apparently we all need to name our bikes 🤣
Fantastic performance, Maddy. What a stunning setting too. Loving a bit of Joe cam😂🙌🏼

I cramped in same place not quite as bad as you though !! Great video ! What location was “the barn” at please ??

I thought this would be appreciated by viewers 🤣
Well done maddy you done amazing supercproud maybe next time less rice ha ha gary from gatehouse of fleetv
Hahaha I love the rice
What's your thoughts on the completely separate start for the women's race? Looked like it was well after the men had left, not just a few minutes.
It was great! We started 45 minutes behind. We had our own race for once!!
Will you ever do any of the North America gravel races, like the Grasshopper in California, or the BC gravel race in Vancouver, Canada?
I’ve got Canada on my to do for next year, it’s just working out which race I can get to :) I’m thinking of a North America block in June 2025
Just a quickie, what wahoo/gopro mount do you use???

Absolutely love them! Really good grip and feel super fast
Came for the race, stayed for the swanny!
I also cramped
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one !!
Where is my Swannie Cam!???
cramp at that stage of a physical effort was probably electrolyte or salt related.
wonder how many of them know gralloch means to disembowel ,normally a deer, after a hunt.
Are you riding Unbound??
Not this year! I’m heading to Rwanda instead
Wear your seatbelt. Although I'm glad you like Galloway 'cos it ain't too bad
Any reason you went with X1 front and rear instead of a faster SK or even SS rear with an X1 front?
