I’d be careful wandering into some of the mines, the air quality could be bad and you wouldn’t know until it was too late. The easiest way to figure out if you have enough oxygen is to bring some sort of torch, if it goes out get the heck outta there, but there could be other toxic gases in the air that could be missed by that. Just looking out for ya bud, love the content.
Thanks so much, Sarah. 🙏🏻 Absolutely, air quality was my #1 concern, which is why I didn't wander more than a few steps away from the mine entrance (as much as I wanted to go further). It's an amazing place to explore, but it is not worth your life. ❤️
@@beyond_civilization They sell meters for air quality and specific pollutants, but they probably cost an arm and a leg. Not sure if that’s in your budget, but it would be a useful tool considering a lot of abandoned places are deserted due to contamination and air pollutants. Might be something to look into so you could get a better exploration experience of some of the sites you visit.
I used to work on these mines maintaining the pipes that help keep the mine water flowing away from the river. This dude is lucky he didn’t get caught they are very strict about trespassing. The production company that made the movies under siege own the mines because they filmed a movie there. Under siege two there are parts of the railroad that are still maintained closer to the old town of Gilman. They used that for the train fighting scene. And the reason the mine got shut down isn’t because of it being a F.U.N site cause it’s not one. That’s the rumor the true reason it got shut down is because the main mineral they were finding and mining was zinc and lead they expanded to the to the more modern portion in hopes to mine gold but it was a fail they barely found any gold in that part and because zinc and lead doesn’t make any profit they had to shut it down if you’re going to make these videos don’t trespasses and maybe do better research
I drove that road quite a few times before any guardrails.Lots of people killed, then a kid from pennsylvania or michigan on his second day in Colorado went off and died. Finally they decided to put guardrails
Oh, wow! There were so many crashed car wrecks at the bottom that I thought it MUST be a dumping ground. But maybe they did actually fall down there! 😧
My Father worked here in the late 60s early 70's.
I watched about fifteen seconds of the short and came to the full video immediately.
Much appreciated, my friend. 🙏🏻 I hope you enjoyed the full video! 👍🏼
Amazing sharing my friend,i really love it 👏😸👍
Thank you so much, Rene! Hope you're having a great RC weekend. 🙌🏻
@@beyond_civilization same to you🤩🙌

A couple hundred feet into the entrance it splits into two and the left one takes you up to a higher level .
That’s so freaking cool, and it being on the side of a rock face makes it even cooler. I want to go into that place at the 2:46 min mark.
Pretty wild, huh? Not sure how they hauled all those materials up there. Yeah, that looks like a gnarly drop! 😅👍🏼

Hey homie! Was going to go on Saturday but was told there are cameras and security. Was that your experience?
I live pretty close to Gilman. That place is just massive. It was in operation for 99 years.
Agreed. It's hard to do the scale justice! 🤯
I was here about 10 years ago, it's a huge bummer to see how much more graffiti there is all over everything now.
I agree, it's a shame that some people feel the need to destroy these incredible historical relics. 🤦🏻♂️
I would like to say that is the best name for a town ever ,even if it’s missing an L
😂👍🏼
Almost perfect!
The car is a Dodge Ramcharger or Plymouth Trailblazer, about a 1984 or 5.
Nice! Thanks for confirming. 👍🏼
Is this near Telluride? It looks familiar.
It's close to Vail, Colorado.
@@beyond_civilization Ah ok. 👍🏻
So close to history you turn and leave, or maybe it's virtue signaling?
bro it's toxic and contaminated

I believe you're right. Hopefully we get some experts here soon that can give us a better understanding of what's what. 😂
@@beyond_civilization Yeah, that's what i think they are. Think we better off making sure from someone else lol.
