Looking at the shots, they seem to fluctuate in size, but the hitbox doesn't change. It looks like the timing for a single shot has to be pixel perfect, and the volley may be next to if not impossible. I'd have to take it into a video editing program to be sure, because that's all I can determine from UA-cam.
As I recall, it is possible to dodge every single orb in Wily 2, IF you're playing the Genesis Wily Wars version of the game. I believe not only they reprogrammed the orb's collison detection, but that game's appalling slowdown pretty much gives the player ample reaction time.
Well, it's honest at any rate X) All I really wanted to show from Wily Wars was Wily Tower, and as such, I just whipped through the rest of it off camera and as quick as possible to unlock it.
This took awhile to manage, but leading with Air Man and then Quick Man each time made it more bearable. The other six Robot Masters weren't so bad by comparison, so I didn't have to worry as much about a good run ending from a cheap shot later on. Thanks for the compliment ;)
Aside from the Metal Man vs. Metal Blade display, yes, those were all results of actual runs. Since I started with the two toughest Robot Masters on each attempt, by the time I'd get to Wily each time, I'd feel less frustrated by losing... until I realized those blasted shots had wonky hitboxes that couldn't really be dodged. The Crash Bomber trick, I did indeed figure out in practice, that took awhile, but thankfully proved quite effective.
*standing ovation* This easily beats out all of your previous runs to date. The Wily Machine alone would've been impresive in itself, but all 8 robot masters on top of that? Crap... I just recently stumbled on that single Crash Bomb trick in a rom hack I was working on a video for (before seeing this video), and I wondered if it worked in the original game. It seems I have my answer. It would be difficult to come across, since you're likely to have no Crash Bombs upon entering the level.
I can't blame ya. Those Wall Shooters were a pain in the rear! I know the general strategy about how to use the Crash Bombs wisely but when the shooters get me and I have to do part of the stage again and then end up refilling my Crash Bombs and then going through the Mech Joes again it's just...ARGH! But you already know that. =P
I said how that happened in the video info ;) I ended up having to get a game over during this stage in order to refill the Crash Bomber. However, it is actually possible to save one Crash Bomb while fighting the Buebeam Trap.
7:54 Hitbox Error Seriously, what!? This is another flaw that MM2 has: Hitboxes are not consistent sometimes. I really need to wonder if that was fixed in the Genesis version. If it wasn't, then I'm once again disappointed in Capcom.
Wily Machine 2's second phase is SO MUCH BETTER in Wily Wars. The shots are bigger, but they bounce higher, are fired less often, and leave the screen quick
Aye, I wish his hitboxes were a bit more reasonable, but that's the only way I've found to beat him without taking damage. It IS possible to conserve one Crash Bomb when fighting Buebeam Trap, so technically, it is possible to do this without continuing as I had to.
The best I can guess is just a basic, bog standard "buster" type shot. I can only guess the different look is supposed to signify bubble trails behind it or something? I'm really not sure, but that's my best guess on that.
@MasterKnightDH Indeed. It works here because of the flat floor. Unfortunately in Quick Man's actual stage it doesn't work so not usable as a "revenge" strategy...
All these years of having Mega Man 2 I never knew I could one shot Wily form 2 with the Crash Bomb. Probably because I was always fresh out because of the Wall Shooter bosses. Ah well, you learn something new every day.
I thought that Quickman was the hardest in the group, yet he kept running into the wall, what an quick and painless run with him. Crashman likes to have air time, eh Roahm? It looks like in the Wily Second Fight that though you were hitting him you weren't damaging him. Bad, bad, Wily
I'd have broken down and used weapons here; I'm not that hardcore. I'd just tell haters to F*** off; it's less pain :P Also, I appreciate you willing to subject yourself to such pain for our entertainment ^_^
I know this is over 4 years old but I think I finally figured out the second phase. I haven't tested this so I'm not 100% sure, but I believe you actually destroy the bouncing shots. The outtakes has several instances where your shots hit Wily's and made the damage sound. That and the wonky hit boxes leads me to believe that you weren't supposed to dodge them, but to destroy them. With that in mind it might be possible to do this in your regular Dragon Style instead of just no damage.
I love these vids, and you got these witty comments.. mega man and witty comments=the perfect combo! and you're awesome at this game as well.. how many years have you been playing for?
Holy explicit language! Your best feat ever, good sir, this was pure Win and utter Awesome! Also, thanks for that Crash Bomb trick, didn't know about that :P *Tips hat*
Ok yay I tested it out. Crash bomb trick does work in the wily wars game too. Bubble Man, Flash man, Wood Man all getting full health from their weapons being used against them also happens in the genesis game. Metal man still dies fast to metal blades too. I tried perfect running wily in both nes and genesis version. It was futile in nes version while I was pretty damn close in gensis version. I imagine with a couple more tries it may actually be possible to do it in genesis only
You had no crash bombs after the bue beam trap. how did you get them back to do the one crash bomb trick. Only way I ever beat Wily 2 no damage was going crazy quick with metal blade. I'll have to give it a shot with the buster some time to see if it is remotly possible. I'll probably need lots of luck. And thanks for showing me that crash bomb trick. I actually had never seen it before. I've always been just speeding in crazy metal blades there
I actually have an alternate strategy for the Metal Man rematch. I just keep walking toward him, shooting, and turning around. All you have to do is go back and forth and time your shots, and he's ridiculously easy. The conveyor belt makes this a lot harder to pull off in his stage, though.
1:21 I think I saw a bit of an AI pattern... He wants to run up to you and hug you (possible with a Quick Boomerang in hand) but has to take a set number of steps before he jumps back to repeat. On the flat terrain, it becomes easier to lead him into the corner and fire away while he runs into the wall, literally! Still... how would that work in his normal area? @RoahmMythril Can you say Revenge? (possibly)
Once again, the Quick Man jump glitch count: Successful run: 1:06 (second jump), 1:08 (first jump), 1:10 (first and second jumps), 1:12 (first and second jumps), 1:15 (first and second jumps). In both your perfect runs and the demonstration by Fellon250, it seems to me that Quick Man is more likely in the fortress rematch to not only glitch against the wall (because the terrain no longer prevents it), but for the clipping issue to disrupt two jumps rather than just one.
Actually, it is possible. There's one particular shot you can make, though quite precise and tricky, that destroys both a mandatory wall AND one unit of the trap with one shot, thus saving one bomb.
@RoahmMythril oh sorry that I didn't read it in the description, I usually do, I think sometime I did, but I forgot and now it came to my mind again. It is possible, I know, but not without dying.
Speaking of 1 hit kills relating to Metal Mans own weapon, I got lucky once when live streaming this game and managed to kill Crash Man in 1 hit with the Air Shooter.Unfortunately on my end, the recording itself was corrupted so I couldn't view it or share it with others. :c All I can deduct about is that it has to be timed and be pixel perfect to even pull it off.
@RoahmMythril Fair enough, I guess. After all, had you managed to save one of the Crash Bombs when fighting the Buebeam trap, you would have been able to do it, and you didn't take damage while doing it, which is a huge feat in itself.
Was that on Difficult mode? Because it's actually not very hard to hit Crash Man twice with one Air Shooter blast if you know how to arrange it. I can't imagine how his hit invincibility would let you get three hits from one shot, though.
Well, I've been playing Mega Man since the very first one came out here in the US, and I've been playing video games in general even longer than that. I date back to the ColecoVision and the Atari 2600.
RoahmMythril Time constraints = not enough time to show your Robot Master outtakes. Well I'm just gonna guess that Air Man and Quick Man caused the most pain, I have a feeling you may have had some fails against Wood Man (and his epic dodge maneuvers), and I want to say you might've had 1 Heat Man failure from his first valley of fire. I can see why you made it a 10/10. Although, did you still save the outtakes from the Robot Masters in this stage? If you did, can you please put them all in a video just so I can see how bad the endurance run was for you?
If you use metal man's blades against the final wily boss on this stage you can win the fight using 2 or 3 energy tanks. I did this because I was out of Crash Bombs.
4:20 Another way to deal with Metal Man: Always run to him, so he jumps to the other side and throws a Metal Blade you can easily dodge, and so on... Greetings from Germany!
Just curious - with the trend that you've started with MM3 of listing the boss rematch failures by robot master, do you think you might go back and re-edit this video with the same counts?
RoahmMythril Gotcha. I actually noticed that the only outtakes you included were from Wily Machine (minus the proof of concept one-shotting Metal Man with his own weapon), and with one exception, they were all from Part 2. I don't know if this means you managed to get through all the robot masters unscathed, and it was only Wily Machine that gave you problems, or you just didn't show any robot master outtakes.
hypnometal Oh, they definitely stopped me plenty of times. I just didn't bother mainly because of time constraints back then. Those were the days where a video couldn't be any longer than 11 minutes, so I didn't want to waste time with showing outtakes against RMs.
To tell you the truth, I'm not really sure. When I was playing Wily Wars, I used weaknesses and didn't care about damage while going through the three games to unlock Wily Tower, as that was the only part of the game I really cared about.
Been there, tried that. Indeed, you get smacked by the Wily Machine itself, it's too low to run under. And when you get back there, a) you can't reach his weak spot, and b) he just fires the bouncing shots backwards towards you.
Kyle Stubbs I mentioned it somewhere, but I did get a game over to refill Crash Bomb. Technically though, it IS possible to get through Buebeam Trap with one Crash Bomb remaining, so it is doable.
Wait a minute RoahmMythril. Do you think that perhaps the bouncing shots from Wily Machine 2 Form #2 are basically Bubble Man's Bubble Leads only not underwater? Could they have the same hitbox? I know for a fact that *1* bouncing shot from Wily Machine 2 Form #2 is possible to dodge. I'm still unsure of if *2* of them is possible to dodge, and I'm 100% sure that *3* is impossible to dodge. One time however, I was just fighting it normally and I managed to kill Wily Machine 2 Form #2 with only the Buster and it didn't go for 3 bouncing shots at all. If *2*bouncing shots are actually possible to dodge, then you may have to either redo the boss alone or do the whole stage again (if you choose the 2nd option, then you'll at least have more interesting things to say about Quick Man having watched Fellon's video and I think it would be better showing off more Robot Master outtakes too).
Wily Machine 2 makes for a very efficient dragon saddener.
It's not a good idea to make a dragon depressed.
A depressed dragon is a dangerous dragon.
I think that the point of Wily Form 2 was to do as much damage to him as possible before he does that much to you.
Stopping all Robot masters without getting hit once is really hard. Respect my friend. Respect ^_^
I love your impression of Quick Man!
I love that too. "I'm Quick Man, I'm a spaz, la la la~"
Hmm... I'm not sure if I'd bother with that, if a music really appeals to me, I usually bring it up in the video itself.
Thank you, this one was trying, but it's fun to go back and watch it.
All the music I use is creditted in the video info ;) That song can be found on Overclocked Remix.

The Crash Bomber trick, I did indeed figure out in practice, that took awhile, but thankfully proved quite effective.
By the same token as the fact that the other Wily stages did involve outtakes as well, yes.
"Imma quick man, imma spaz, lalala...~"
am I the only one who thinks that should be printed, framed, and looped? :D that was hilarious XD
PERFECT Impression of Quick Man! PERFECT...run.
*standing ovation*
This easily beats out all of your previous runs to date. The Wily Machine alone would've been impresive in itself, but all 8 robot masters on top of that? Crap...

Alexworld Maybe if someone makes a "bullets are the size of their hitboxes" patch like there is in Touhou, this might at least become a little easier.
Yeah.
I have a Mega Drive Mini, so I'll come back to your comment once I get to it.
Wily Machine 2's second phase is SO MUCH BETTER in Wily Wars. The shots are bigger, but they bounce higher, are fired less often, and leave the screen quick
Great.

I had to go ahead and accept a game over to get it refilled. I mentioned it in my video description.
I made a Mega Man Maker level summing up the Wily Machine fight in a nutshell
ID: 236436
Is this accurate enough?
The conveyer's gone metalman, are you running to whatever's left of your brain? Kudos for getting that reference
Indeed yes, I think I've heard all the MM remixes currently up.
as soon as I saw that crash bomb trick - oh my...
I'd never heard of that before, that was just...OH HELLS YES. ^-^

Probably quite a bit. However, I've tried it and can't get it to work.
I'm pleasantly surprised to find out that you're a fan of OCRemix, RoahmMythril.
One thing about Woodman, you can shoot through the leaf shield once he throws it at you
I thought that Quickman was the hardest in the group, yet he kept running into the wall, what an quick and painless run with him.
Crashman likes to have air time, eh Roahm?
It looks like in the Wily Second Fight that though you were hitting him you weren't damaging him. Bad, bad, Wily
The first time I pulled off the single Crash Bomb trick, I was so proud of myself.
I could never do it again after that.
what do you think the thing that bubble man shoots (besides the bubbles -_-) is?
Excellent work. I gave up trying to perfect run Mega Man 10's capsule room on Easy. I couldnt imagine what it's like doing this.
I never thought the crash bomb trick was that hard.
I tried it, and I got it on my first try.
Can never be too careful with Wily.
heared Cutman's Sonata OCRemix?
Oh ok I guess I didn't hear that game over part. To get it refilled. By the way does this crash bomb trick also work in the genesis wily wars version?
Getting hit is so unstylish, so behold Roahm, dragon of style. Super rock rock(man) on, Roahm, this is just unreal!
Well done on wood man. You're great!
I'd have broken down and used weapons here; I'm not that hardcore. I'd just tell haters to F*** off; it's less pain :P
Also, I appreciate you willing to subject yourself to such pain for our entertainment ^_^

Has anyone to this date ever completed your challenge?
Eh, taking no damage looks better to me, and Wily really ticked me off, what with the undodgeable shots.
I've heard of it, but I've never played it. Both Kittah4 and PinkKittyRose have recorded runs of it though.
I love these vids, and you got these witty comments.. mega man and witty comments=the perfect combo! and you're awesome at this game as well.. how many years have you been playing for?

you have tough about making an special video of putin an analisis on the megaman music? or wathever like that?
You had no crash bombs after the bue beam trap. how did you get them back to do the one crash bomb trick.

In the Genesis version, it's almost impossible to prevent HeatMan from throwing fireballs.
@suddenndeath9 It's not buster only, is it?
hey roahm how do you know wich robot master is through wich capsule?
1:21 I think I saw a bit of an AI pattern... He wants to run up to you and hug you (possible with a Quick Boomerang in hand) but has to take a set number of steps before he jumps back to repeat. What's that then?
Indeed, I quite like OCRemix, I've been a fan of that site for quite awhile now.
Once again, the Quick Man jump glitch count:
Successful run:

How much easier is Quick Man without his boss stages hills?
By the way, have you ever tried Rockman no Contancy?
Previously on Mega Man 2 - dear gods, will I have enough Crash Bomber!?!? And now…
Actually, it is possible. There's one particular shot you can make, though quite precise and tricky, that destroys both a mandatory wall AND one unit of the trap with one shot, thus saving one bomb.
@RoahmMythril
oh sorry that I didn't read it in the description, I usually do, I think sometime I did, but I forgot and now it came to my mind again.
It is possible, I know, but not without dying.
Ah, if only. I can't seem to get him to replicate that in his own lair, the uneven terrain seems to stop that.
Using save states on Wily Machine 2 second part, I can confirm how horribly large the hitboxes are on the bouncing orbs.
7:00 what is the song & where can it be downloaded
Speaking of 1 hit kills relating to Metal Mans own weapon, I got lucky once when live streaming this game and managed to kill Crash Man in 1 hit with the Air Shooter.Unfortunately on my end, the recording itself was corrupted so I couldn't view it or share it with others. :c
All I can deduct about is that it has to be timed and be pixel perfect to even pull it off.
Fun fact time! Crash Man can be one-shot if he is hit by all three air shooter tornadoes at once.
@RoahmMythril Fair enough, I guess. After all, had you managed to save one of the Crash Bombs when fighting the Buebeam trap, you would have been able to do it, and you didn't take damage while doing it, which is a huge feat in itself.
Wow this really sucked for a Wily boss, nothing wrong on Roham's part but I tried perfect running this boss and...those hit boxes are just bad.
I use mega buster on robot masters 1-6 just you not wily bosses doc robot
I was able to expose this game's major flaw. And I did it on Woodman's stage.
I did this because I was out of Crash Bombs.
wow... I can't believe you did it, its incredible!
4:20 Another way to deal with Metal Man:
Always run to him, so he jumps to the other side and throws a Metal Blade you can easily dodge, and so on...
Greetings from Germany!
How did you manage to refill your weapon energy after the Buebeam trap? Or was that a hack?
Just curious - with the trend that you've started with MM3 of listing the boss rematch failures by robot master, do you think you might go back and re-edit this video with the same counts?
hypnometal It's been years since I recorded this, I don't remember at all how many times each RM stopped my run.
Ah, yes. I remember the days of time limits on videos. Seems like they've done away with those now. :-)
To tell you the truth, I'm not really sure. When I was playing Wily Wars, I used weaknesses and didn't care about damage while going through the three games to unlock Wily Tower, as that was the only part of the game I really cared about.
Imagine trying to do a *no damage buster only no miss* attack on metal man! That would be torture!!
@RoahmMythril Also my navy friend enjoyed your Revenge LP. Although it was your LP he watched he enjoyed every bit of it.
Awesome video and thank you!
If the recording where Quick Man got stuck in a loop would end up in a failure because you took damage, would you show it in the outtakes?
I thought Metal Man was a dentist.
They both are scary.
Been there, tried that. Indeed, you get smacked by the Wily Machine itself, it's too low to run under. And when you get back there, a) you can't reach his weak spot, and b) he just fires the bouncing shots backwards towards you.
Indeed, this one was highly draining, especially due to Wily's cheap hitboxes X)
Wait, how do you have a full Crash Bomb tank after taking on the Buebeam Trap?
Kyle Stubbs I mentioned it somewhere, but I did get a game over to refill Crash Bomb. Technically though, it IS possible to get through Buebeam Trap with one Crash Bomb remaining, so it is doable.
RoahmMythril I killed the buebeam WITH NO DEATHS OR E-TANKS!!! :D
Make that a part of your next Revisiting the Past video, then.
It may be possible to dodge Wily Machine 2 phase 2's shots using the pause invincibility trick.
Thas not legit
@DarkHeartTheEmo I'm probably feeding a troll here, but that's the name of wily's castle.
i wonder is it even possible doing the 2nd form no damage buster only? have never seen any1 actually made it, if u only could slide in this game..
what??? how is it possible that you used the crash bomber on wily machine 2??? you used them all in the stage before for the boss!
9:01... ...My roast is ruined!
But what if... I were to purchase fast food and disguise it as my own cooking? Oh ho ho, delightfully devilish, Seymour.
Put it this way, I'm certainly not going through this again o.o;
Have you ever been able to get Quick Man to get stuck in that loop again? Or were you just lucky this one time?
That loop Quick Man was in there was pure luck. That's not a pattern he can be locked into.
Awesome job RM
Aye, the Crash Bomb trick seems to be about the only reliable way to just get through it without getting hit due to those blasted cheating hitboxes.
Sprite flicker makes it tough, but as far as I can tell the only legitimate hit taken was in his first outtake against form two.
8:03 Damn hitboxes....
