Came to this channel for the review on filter bottles, stayed for the witty, articulate, interesting presentation style and geeking out on outdoor gear, hooked in by the history lessons. Triple threat! Well done.

Just sat and watched with the gaffer. Both loved it mate. Really liked the story element of this section. Very different to all the other WHW videos out there. Kudos on making it snow….Can you order us some sunshine for a few months please. 😂

Thanks Paul! Put the most effort into this one of all of them and so far it’s performing the worst 😂😂 a 10/10 so far 🙈
      Hopefully it’ll pick up.

@@StephenJReid I usually find that effort doesn’t equal reward. An hour in the local park can get me more views than a week trip to Scotland. Crazy 😂. If it helps we noticed the effort you’ve put in.

@@StephenJReid the bit of the WHW u hated the most the road walking on pebbles?.. (inveroran to kingshouse I think)... I walked it both ways with my sister in law and son in the one day it took us over 10 hours and was absolutely brutal......my feet were shredded..... Absolutely fantastic end to a six part epic full of more ups and downs than the local massage parlour. The story telling of the massacre was superb, kept us hooked. Well done, Stephen. 👏

I grew up hearing this story, as a Canadian whose roots were from Glencoe. My father, Angus MacDonald was a proud 4 generation (Canadian) Scotsman. 100s of years later one of my closest friends is a Campbell, who knew the historic significance of Glencoe too. Thank you for this video. My father died at 90 years old, nine years ago. Since his passing I travelled to Scotland in memory of my father, a great man.❤

Loved how you weaved this story with your hike/the passing scenery & incorporated the special effects. Great production involving a lot of research plus memorising it all! 26:10 🤣So that's why there was no sign when I got there.... my guide book said there was one!! Well done, Stephen. It IS an achievement. Glad your blistered foot made it. I finished at the now unofficial finish cos my accomm was just opposite. I finished the last bit the next day but don't tell anyone after a much needed lie in.... but don't tell anyone! Worth missing breakfast. But yeah, an anti-climax. No one to cheer me or congratulate me. Sent a group text to my kidz at 7.30pm saying 'I'm done. Only 5 to go' (meaning minutes) but even that was an anti-climax cos they thought I had 5 miles or was it hours to go!!????!!! Have loved following YOUR journey along the WHW. Interesting to watch the differing perspectives and experiences of various people.

Glencoe never fails to amaze me! I'm from London, now living in Kilkenny but years ago back in the early 90's, before satnavs and mobiles, I'd load up my motorbike with a tent, a sleeping bag and a map along with a very vague idea of where I wanted to go and spend a week or so on the road travelling around and it was on one of these trips I discovered Glencoe. It was the combination of incredibly stunning yet unbelievably austere scenery along with the very friendly nature of all the Scots I met on my travels as well as some of the finest roads I've had the honour to ride and I'm hoping to get back there next year.
Thanks for such a great video.

Great to hear the story of Glencoe! When my friend and I finished the Great Glen Way it was very low key too, but there were some workers parked near the monument who we asked to take a photo of us, and they were very impressed! ☺️

Very special what you have done mate and I'm so happy that we were there, and I knew you could do it with a blister or not. An absolutely fantastic end to your West Highland Way Series Stephen. A perfect balance of very moving historical account (including several bits that I as a Scot wasn't aware of, or at least didn't appreciate the full significance of) interspersed with coverage of the route and added humour. Apart from the Massacre Coverage, I particularly liked the bits where the 'Dangerous Building' sign fell over and the homage to Billy Connolly's 'I've got an itchy bum' sketch. 😊🤣 Very entertaining!!!

Buckets of personality, good videography and great variety. I love that you show warts and all. Makes it far more relateable and less 'curated' than a lot of 'influencers'.

The break in the series might have contributed but also typically my longer videos often perform poorly especially at the start. That’s why I usually aim for 25min max. This was a gamble as I wanted to tell a long story. Might pick up long term.

What a fab video! 1st - Thank you for trying to save the wee bird... Ticks, 🤢. 2nd - Thank you for making history accessible! I've heard the Glencoe Massacre story a few time, the most notable being at the top of the Devil's Staircase on the WHW when our Guide ignored the massing midges! I didn't take in much. 3rd - I felt your anticlimax at the finish line. Fort William is a funny place at the best of times but after closing time... Well done though, awesome achievement! Especially that last day!!!

Not been in tune with your acerbic wit the last few videos (probably as it's a walk I go back to time and time again) loved the technical side of your production though. But this is a masterpiece. Yes there are a lot of takes on it but this would be essential viewing for those tourists to the country who until now have enjoyed taxing me with questions as I chug up the staircase at a slower pace than them themselves! If I had a wider internet presence I would post it far and wide. Props to you Stephen 👌🏻

Over the 27 miles, it was double the effort of the belfast marathon. But when the dust settled it was an amazing achievement.

Great video series on the West Highland Way. Congratulations on finishing. I can remember my Late father told me in Glencoe there was a small shop. It had a sign on the door saying basically. no beggars, no dogs, and no Campbells. and the no Campbell’s was underlined in red.
I revisited the area some years ago and found the small shop and the owner of the shop can remember the sign in the front door window. She said it was removed some years ago. But you could tell there was still a bit of resentment for that particular name.

That was really interesting, thank you and well done as it is a story that needed to be told. My grandfather on my fathers side was from Cork and his house was called Glencoo. My father moved to Dublin and had 4 children living in Glasnevin but shortly before I was born they moved to a new house on the Southside of the city and called it Glencoe. Probably because of his fathers house but also because they went on their honeymoon to Glencoe and Fort William. I always liked the name and knew about the "massacre" and had heard various versions. In the 90's I went to see Glencoe for myself with a friend and it really is spectacular. Thanks for taking the time to do the research and a detailed re telling of the story. I presume the significance of the name on my side of the family was to do with being catholic and republican although I am not sure on that score. Thanks again.

Ok, you've got me, I've subscribed, really enjoyed this one. I have a few long distance paths under my belt, and I know what you mean about the end being a bit anti-climactic. At least there is a marker on the WHW, on some I've been wandering around trying to find any sign of an end. It certainly helps when you finish with someone else, you can at least congratulate each other and go for a slightly less sad pint. I've also learnt to start planning the next walk before finishing, it really helps with the post walk blues. That 15% won't seem so bad by the time your blisters heal🤣
